    It’s been 8 years now, I think it’s time you visited these US bourbon distilleries again for an updated tour. A lot has happened in the last 8 years.

    That is nice to see the bubbling fermenting mash at 2:27. I enjoyed seeing the three pot stills at 4:40. I liked how you spoke softly while the whiskey was aging at 6:56 (the whiskey is sleeping). It was nice to see the master distiller at 8:45. He comes across as being a nice guy. Forty years of experience is impressive. I like how he says that the product is "a labor of love". This was a well done presentation. Thank you for posting it.

    Woodford Reserve Double Oaked was my first bottle of higher end whiskey. Also, as of yesterday, the first whiskey where I got "sweetness" in the smell. My whiskey journey has begun and I am excited 😁

    I've come to really love Woodford. Pot still bourbon and a variety of offerings, unique bottles at very reasonable price points for what you're getting- unbeatable! Their double barrel really changed things for me- so rich and sweet, almost like a rum but with the refinement of whiskey. Thanks for the video tour!

      Definitely it is richer than the original bourbon. If you think of 16 year old sherry based whiskey such as Aberlour with a combination of other sweet whiskies, this is what Double Oaked tastes like (in my opinion of course). I got it for Christmas, and I have to say, I became my favourite bourbon I've tasted. I love the original, but this one I have to by on occasion. It is more expensive, but definitely worth it once and a while :)

    Very impressed with the facility. Out of the handful of tours ive seen; it seems woodford looks less industrial and cleaner.
    Even the fermentin tub being wood and not a crumbling cement tank like on a previous tour.
    After watching, i will now have to pick up some woodford to try.

  • @JeremyDore

    A portion of the whiskey that they put in their base product is actually column stilled. It comes from the Brown-Foreman Louisville distillery that produces Old Forester. This was confirmed by our guide on the corn to cork tour. He couldn't tell me how much of the pot stilled distillate actually gets into the bottle. The Masters Collection is all pot stilled as are the new distillery only special releases.

      Spot on, Chris should have corrected that important statement at 12:45. While Woodford is a very nice bourbon, their standard offerings are not 100% pot distilled. I find it curious how Woodford is not proactively open about this fact. They will tell you if asked directly, but they do not proactively state their whiskey is part pot-still and part column-still.

    • @TheJusnic82
      @TheJusnic82 6 лет назад +1

      But he did ask him directly and said "so we are not looking at ANY column still whisky here and chris said Yes that is correct...

    Doesn't the alcohol evaporate when the mash ferments in an open barrel?

    • @TheSurgeHunter
      @TheSurgeHunter 7 лет назад +2

      No, during the fermenting the "beer" only gets up to about 8% alcohol. At that point the alcohol percentage is not enough to start evaporating, that only happens after the distillation happens.

  • @JeremyDore
    @JeremyDore 8 лет назад +5

    Notice Chris called the standard Woodford Reserve a pot stilled "influenced" whiskey and he didn't say "yes" when you said "Ok, so we aren't looking at any column stilled whiskey". So he kinda obfuscated the truth by not replying to what you said and didn't lie really. But some would say holding back the truth IS a lie. I still like their whiskey when I can find it on sale.

    • @TheJusnic82
      @TheJusnic82 6 лет назад +1

      Yes but later on Luning asks him again "So we are not looking at ANY column still whisky here" and Chris says "thats correct"

    well im sorry but i have tasted a few different american whiskies or bourbons and unfortunately they have this nasty printer ink smell and it also comes through heavy in the taste ,perhaps it masks the supposed sweet corn or rye because im barely tasting them and although woodford is perhaps the mellowest of all the ones i tried it still has this unique signature i do not like ,perhaps its an acquired taste but canadian pure rye whisky is much sweeter and different tasting and im hoping pure corn whisky is better than when it is in bourbon style,,perhaps its the virgin wood being used but i do not find these sweet notes much in bourbons in general nor in woodford ,can someone tell me what that inky smell and taste is from,is it the barrels? anyways after taking a few sips of woodford and then going back to my bottom shelf scotches like grants or ballantines there flavours comes out and shine so mellow and sweet with caramel vanilla and brown sugar so if you need a set back reference do have some bourbon and then you will find how much better these scotches tastes afterwards once your palate has been coated by a dry leathery tobacco yanki whisky lol what you then thought of bad scotches will start to shine in sweet aroma and taste, i give up putting good money in these expensive americant whiskies

    There is an absolute SHITLOAD of distilleries using pot stills. And Small Batch doesn't use 28KL fermenters either.
