Youngblood's were the first professional live band I ever saw. The cafe a go go in Greenwich Village I guess about 1965 Maybe. They were great . Banana was hot stuff and Jesse Colin Young could sure sing. Hope they're doing well. Oh yeah and the warm-up Act was a new single artist named Richie Havens. Real nice guy
Its so amazing to me that the songs of bands I treasured and always went to hear, when I was in my teens, are becoming popular again. Wise words to save us.
Ok, now this is freaky. I played this great song in my college band, 1966. Capo @ 2, same picking and little chord shape for the intro licks, but the kicker is ... I was playing a cherry red, gold plated (like they all were) ES 345, too. Only differences? 1) My guitar had a factory Bigsby, and 2) you play it way better than I did in ‘66! Great as always, James. What a treat to see it played on the same guitar I played back in the day. Those were the days, my friends ...
This is the first song I remember as a child..maybe it was the hippies that lived next door.. but I will learn this.. you've already taught me so many other songs..
Saw JCY at the Santa Cruz Civic sometime in the 70's. Wow, he could rock and had such an effortless way, such a smooth voice that could make the Sirens of yore dash their heads against the bulkhead of the Argonaut
Yep indeed - GREAT to hear you play, especially one of my favourite tunes. I remember your post playing it on a yellow/gold Gretsch. Hope all is well health-wise.
I remember when this song would play on the airwaves, and the warmongering hawks would make fun of the Hippie lyrics, advocating harmony and peace. During my college years, I got to meet the recording engineer for the first Youngbloods album.
Great selection. That second guitar part was always so cool. For those who wish to play rhythm to JJ's exquisite lead work, you're in the key of A (no capo). For the verse, it jumps back and forth from A to G until the chorus. When playing A, no finger on the B string, 2nd fret. When playin the G chord, no finger on high E, 3rd fret. That way, you get that earthy airy/open chord feel to it.
Congrats on new guitar! Bit the bullet on 04 Hummingbird! Totally inspiring and I'm not a big acoustic guy or wasn't lol! Does this mean the black Es is gone? Any reason you decided to go for natural Dove and replace the old one? That was quite unique but both awesome! Love the red back and sides contrast to natural top!
One of the greatest songs of the 1960s. Goosebumps.
James James is so smooth, like butter! Great job!
Great song and sentiment. Jesse Colin Young's voice is like silk. He had a great song called 4 in the morning early on. Nice job, JJ, as always.

Very good James. Authentic cover. Now I learned. Grateful.

I'm trying to teach myself how to play this song. You did an excellent job of this. Thank you so much for sharing.

I saw them in a field at nite on the campus of U. of South Fla. In '75. It was cool. I showed up buzzed just in time to hear this song.
Put a big smile on my face. Thanks James.

I remember my oldest brother bringing home that 45 when it first came out.
So glad to see you on the mend. This song is so evocative! Wonderful choice. Thanks for this and all your posts.
Love this song. I can't help but picture Derek Smalls mouthing "we love you" every time hear it, though. Damn you and your rockumentary, Marty!
you never disappoint James.
Holy cow, I was literally JUST listening to this. Many thanks. The Indigo Girls also did a pretty good rendition of this classic.
Glad you are back...You obviously had a ton of music packed away waiting to play again!
This is my favorite work of yours, and that's really saying something too.
Nice! Go Purple Eagles!

Men, beautiful guitar!!!
Written by Chet Powers AKA Dino Valenti who achieved some fame with the band Quicksilver Messenger Service. Great song. Nicely done.
For some reason I like the David and the Giants version best of all!!!! I wish they performed more cover songs though!!!
Great cover of a classic song. Thanks for posting this video.
Tasty playing as usual on this classic and a new Purple Violets sweatshirt to boot.
nice job dude that was awsome👍👍👍
I’ve learned a lot from you my friend. Thank You! 😊❤️

I agree...everybody love one another!
Great Ear for this stuff! A Dino Valenti classic.
Love the way you worked out all the break bits starting at 2:09 ... has me wondering if even for you was a a bit of a workout to get it
Wow...perfect, thank you!
You can slip in those down strokes in as you play the rhythm.. just stretch it in there and still keep up! thanks
Perfectly done!
Great job!! Go N.U.!!!
Good...Cheers Bob
Well done Purple Eagle!!
Great Job! On my one day list!
Awesome! Thanks so much! I’ve been wanting to learn this song for a long time

Great job! I have an Epiphone Dot with the blocks like that or similar. Good player.
Great song. A 345 with a factory Bigsby has been a dream guitar of mine. Is this a reissue?

First song I ever learned...,
E' una nuova Gibson ? molto bella e' una 335 ? ciao grazie per le lezioni . Max
Max Lai 345
Oops. Sorry I didn’t notice. 345?? With Varitone?
Wow, hard song to play
Thanks, man.
Are you using any effects? It sounds so amazing, just wondering. Thank you.
Buddy Martin Zero effects, not even reverb. That’s pure tube goodness courtesy of Joe Carson. :)
Thank you. I had seen his videos when he built this amp, I didn’t think you were using any but was curious, it really sounds wonderful.
'far out' , 'groovy'
Nice
Another great lesson, THX
Groovy!
335 with Bigsby and Varitone? Nice. Did it replace a guitar or add to the mix? And using your brother's amp? It's a new you!
I sold the 335 and replaced it with a 345. Just felt like it was time for a change.
Nice amp!
Thats your present isnt it ?
That’s such a great amp. Love the voltmeter, I think every amp needs a meter, don’t really know why, but they all do! Fine work. :-)
has anybody ever noticed this tune has the exact same drum beat as 'IN MY LIFE' by 'THE BEATLES'?
New amp?
Yes sir!
sweet
McGuinn like solo.
Is this the song South Park took the piss out of for their Hybrid People Now song...?
Is there a tab for this?
Probably, but I play by ear. I don’t know anything about tabs.
