Hi Liz, I love your videos and would like your opinion, is it ok to plant Purple sprouting Broccoli and dwarf broad been in the same bed? I’m still trying to get my head around the companion planting malaki! I have just been told I shouldn’t grow garlic near runner beans! I’m in zone 9a by the way 😂
Thanks so much, Liz. I never realised just how much I can grow in October. Now I can relax and stop panicking to get things sown in autumn. Much appreciated
Love you Liz! You bring so much calm to the crazy times we are living in. Listening to your voice and the way you talk literally makes me forget the troubles of the world.
Wales! Finally, someone who isn't in the southern united states lol. Doesn't normally matter (books, music, cooking) but growing's a wee bit different!
I'm in the Pacific Northwestern United States zone 7b with a temperate climate much like yours. I have found that English gardeners, such as yourself, have been such a wonderful font of knowledge for me as our climate is very similar. Thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge 🙏 ❤.
I love your videos, your gentle voice and matter of fact approach is most enjoyable. I have learned so much in a short time from you and my allotment garden is brilliant. I'm 70 and disabled but using methods learned from you and other permaculture growers I have transformed my overgrown plot in 7 months. Thank you so much for your help.
In the video Liz didn’t recommend a beetroot variety. For winter growing I found Pablo and Rhonda both do well under cover and don’t go hard and woody. Kale does grow well, Liz recommended red Russian, my favourite is dwarf green curled. Spinach matador does well in a polyunnel planted in a seed tray in September and then into the ground undercover in October. Tatsoi is also good over wintered and is fast growing, it is like a cross between young pak choi and a baby leaf spinach. I agree with the Amsterdam3 carrot recommendation. Eskimo is another good carrot variety.
Slowly I am learning how to glow plants, flowers, fruits and vegetables, I am finding gardening very therapeutic and inspiring, spending time outside with my hands in the earth while observing nature grow.
@Truth Against the World I think so. I've researched it and listened to what people like Liz say. I'm going to give it a shot anyway..luckily i have the room to do so.😊
Liz I love your videos! I really like how you are breaking it up into months of what we can grow, some things I never would have known. When we move and have (hopefully) a poly tunnel or greenhouse, I will rewatch all the videos to guide me!
thanks so much I really enjoy your videos the calmness of gardening....look forward to many more getting educated and ready for Spring Vegetable gardening....all the best from cold NY USA!
I was curious as I've seen that there are other videos listing seeds one can plant now, but when I look at my seed packets they always scream SOW IN SPRING. But I see most are to be sown under cover, which, I guess explains it; but I don't have a massive sheet of plastic so I'll assume I'm left with the option of broad beans, peas, onions, and replanting last year's garlic. Well that's good to be going on with, thanks. I will have to get started. (I'll also have to check my seed store and hope the seeds I already have are ok with the cold, as it'd be a shame to have to dispense with them and buy more.)
Great video - full of useful advice. Thank you for suggesting other RUclips accounts to follow, it really helps to connect the growing community (or should that be the growing Growing Community? 😁) 💚
Thanks Liz! I didn't realise there was so much I could still be growing (and planning ahead for). Thank you for your videos, always top quality with great and practical info.

Another feast of information, helping us along to a feast on our plates as we head into the cooler months ahead. Thank you Liz. Please, please will you do a video on storage solutions for our harvests? Best place for potatoes; is it a hessian sack, a paper sack or in the ground? What about carrots and french beans? I hope you can find the time to help with this. Thanks again 😊
Hello liz, OMG so glad to have found you. I live in South Wales and have been growing veg for a few years, although I still feel my knowledge is that of a beginner. I haven’t grown in the winter before, but I have sown cauliflower, broccoli potatoes, and hope to do carrots and perhaps peas. I don’t have a grow tunnel as it’s windy here ( near the loughor estuary) so they tend to lift in the wind and I’ve lost many a tray of seedlings. Can you advise where I can buy the hoop tubing please. I’d like to get what I’ve sown under plastic before it gets too cold. Thank you for all you do.
Love your video. I don't know many of your varieties but we have some equivalents. Didn't know I could eat bean tops. I have observed that my dogs eat them. Loved your mini polytunnel.
Pre-order placed via Amazon. Congratulations on your first (of many) books! Great content very much appreciated, keep up the awesome work and thank you. 👍
Fabulous video, Liz. So encouraging and uplifting to look forward to a winter garden. I have started collards (I am a southern girl in USA), kale, mustard greens, broccoli, cauliflower, arugula, toy choy and some lettuces that the bunnies are after. So I have just installed my first hoops in the raised beds and ordered some covering. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and garden; great content always.😃 Your new book is on my wish list! Have a blessed day.
Thank you for another inspiring vid. I recently bought seeds to grow many of these - plus winter purslane, which I love and which thrives in cold weather. I'm looking forward to your book!
@@imxpragian I think sea purslane might be the variety I once grew in summer. I didn't like it much because it has very fleshy leaves and a taste that's a little off-putting for me. It still grows in summer since it really grows like a weed. Since I don't like the taste or texture, I put it into smoothies since it's very healthy (with a lot of Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins and minerals). My favorite is winter purslane, aka "miner's lettuce". It has very thin, tender leaves and a mild taste, and is just as healthy. :)
Thank you for sharing. I live in sweden in an area where the winters are dark and colder than most countries. Minus 30 outside and minus 10 in the greenhouse. What can I grow other than ICE CUBES?
Greetings from Finland 😋 i know what u r talking about 😂 i ve come to a conclusion that its probably best to just have plenty of potatoes and other roots in the root cellar and wait for the spring! On the other hand there are solutions also, but is it really worth the effort, depends on situation 🤔 check out one yard revolution -channel, he s pretty much mastered winter growing in us zone 5b, in a non heated polytunnel. But i think the biggest challenge (according to my non succesful trials) might be the darknes in october to december (short daylight hours plus continuos overcast weather). Winter growing could be possible in a non heated greenhouse with just a little additional light, and also finding the right plant varieties that are both cold and low light tolerant. Of course this book from elliot coleman (..spelling..?), four season gardening, might be a helpful resource. I think winter gardening in scandinavia is possible.. but certainly very very challenging.

Thanks for this, I'm going to get a winter crop of carrots going in the greenhouse when the tomatoes are pulled and my garlic (and flower bulbs) arrived this week so hoping to get them planted when we get a break in the rain. I got some beetroot and spinach planted a week or two back and wasn't sure if they'd over winter so I'm glad to hear it. My tunnels are covered in insect mesh at the moment, do you think it's worth swapping to plastic or fleece during the frost? I've still got leeks and kale in there at the moment too.
