Wow your cabbage is phenomenal!! Myself and my 8 year old son are just starting out growing our own veg, we have 2 small plastic greenhouses now. We planted iceberg lettuce a few weeks ago. Mine didn't grow but all 5 of his did! He's got the bug now and today we built the second greenhouse and he's planted spring onions. Glad to have found your channel thank you for guiding us on our veggie journey !
I only garden on my deck - we just ordered some raised bed planters - they are on legs so are almost the height of a kitchen table - so I can work in the new boxes next year. I grew tomatoes and cucumbers in pots on the deck (can't garden in the ground because of deer herds that come through our yard and I'm 74 and partially disabled from polio as a child) but yet you inspired me to take up gardening again this year and we are so happy with our little vegetable pots. I've always grown flowers - but had given up on vegetables. Next year, again inspired by you, I will have tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes, chives and maybe even a few onions in with the flowers in the new planters. Thank you for your videos - your voice and style are so calming and we need that so much these days.
These videos are dangerous to watch. First thing you know you'll have a pot or two growing because they look so good. That turns into more until you find yourself planting in anything that holds soil.
Seeing the peas section of this video brought back some nostalgia of the first pea pod I ever grew, it was back in primary school I sat at the back of the class room on the teachers left hand side beside a window and a sink (exactly what I needed to make the plant grow, that and abit of common sense to keep an eye on it daily. Unlike most of the class 😅) anyways their was that window and the bottom left hand corner and the window everyone else choose on the right hand side, full sun all day. (I’m sure you know were this is going by now lol) anyways we came back from Easter holidays and low and behold everyone but I was shocked that there little faster growing pea shoots had all perished and I came back to a healthy little plant. Was pleased to eat the pea pod when it fully grew 😊 no prize for this little experiment, but the lesson I learnt won’t be forgotten. (Went on to forgetting about gardening till countless years later and took it up as a small time hobby and still love it to this day 😊
Jeanna Maynard maybe a spin off on what you can still do with veg to eat if you missed the right time to pick, like the radish she missed. How many people would have thrown that in the compost heap?
Dear Liz.I do so enjoy your tutorials and have been so inspired and have learned a lot.I wonder if you are aware that the beautiful green leaves from the radishes can make a lovely nutritious dish.ln a little olive or other oil,fry some chopped or crushed garlic. You can add some spices if you like or not, such as turmeric, chilli and cumminpowder.Add the washed chopped leaves, salt and pepper and cook gently until done. They are delicious and nutritious, but l do appreciate your ducks might not be too keen on depriving them of their tasties!!! Thank you for all your efforts.Wishing you well and kind regards.
You are amazing with much knowledge. My husband and I always had our garden full of vegetables and we canned everything or froze much.. He did the planting and I took care of the weeding. We kept a great supply of our vegerable throughout the winter months. I do enjoy your video and need you inspiration to try my own luck at planting. Thank you for sharing.
What can I say? Another good vid, Liz. Love the not accepting the end of season. With the current UK weather, every initiative is great. Loved the content and loved the wisdom. Thank you for a fantastic video, a lot of useful information conveyed in a short time. I like that you speak at a normal speed too, as I find some videos on RUclips have such slow speech, I listen to them speeded up a notch or two! I am new to growing veg and had a successful harvest of several types of veg in my new vegetables planters. I didn't know know quite how many things we can grow during the Autumn and winter! It will really be a nice distraction from the imminent Covid 'downer' in these coming colder months. Apparently, 3 million extra people in the UK have started to garden during the pandemic - it has been such a boost for people!
@Elegant Sufficiency I too am stocking up on seeds. The packages are art/beauty to me, and it's a good thing to remind me to plan for each season. Peas and Carrots!

Sowed winter lettuce, spinach, chard, various fast-growing brassicas and some Guardsman spring onions (thanks for the tip that they grow faster than WH White Lisbon!) 😃
