@@jackpardun2898 That's true, on my grandmother's house back then in 2008 we used to sit for a long time outside the turkey's coop just to jell at then every few seconds.
15 minutes 10 seconds traveling straight through the core. Probably technically faster because the core is denser. Spitball guess says 8 minutes. Sound doesn't travel in a curve unless it's been refracted. Technically sound can be refracted through the mantle and travel the circumference of the Earth, but it's also going to go straight through the Earth. The straight path is much quicker.
Cody, I love your work. Today, since it's the topic of my studies I'd like to add my two cents. I doubt that it was an S wave... using an explosive as a seismic source almost eliminates shear stresses at the source position as the power radiates in all directions simultaneously (almost!). Even if S wave was generated, it would have been too weak to be picked up by a microphone. I'm almost sure it's a reflection of the P wave, the polarity of the wiggle you showed would also suggest that, however I'm not sure if I should trust the seismic wave polarity recorded by a microphone. There are many possible sources for reflections... even if not in the ground, the wall behind the microphone could have reflected that. Other possibility is that the second wave was the same as the first wave but converted into airwave at the ceiling of the cave and traveled through the air to the microphone. Assuming that the rock has a velocity of 6000m/s and your source is 50m away, the first arrival should be after around 0.0083s, assuming that your cave is 2m high, the airwave from the ceiling would need 0.0067s to travel the 2m of air. So it wouldn't be far off of what you recorded. Next time use a smartphone app which records vibrations as 3 components and tape the smartphone tightly against the rock. That way we could tell if it's an S wave or a P wave! Keep it up!
Most small speakers just can not reproduce those low frequencies and if they could it'd take more power than the device's battery could provide. Those are the physics facts behind it all. There are some schemes to frequency shift the sounds up to a range you can hear.
Capacitors are basically lightning in a bottle. The Earth/sky is essentially a gigantic capacitor, and the air is the dielectric. When lightning strikes, it's the same as if you exceeded the breakdown voltage of the dielectric in a capacitor and current arcs through it. In fact, the first capacitors were literally special jars you could charge up with electricity and store said electricity in the jar. Which you could discharge to get a nice sized spark. They're called Leyden Jars. So you're not far off with lightning in a jar. It quite literally exists. Electroboom made a video on leyden jars, if you want to know more. You can even make your own very easily. Cheers.
I was... referring to the common turn of phrase connoting an attempt to hold onto an extraordinary event - not literally lightning in a bottle... Still interesting though, so thanks anyways. :)

Sending all the love, hope you're feeling better and more motivated, so glad to see you very energetic and excited in your video ♥️
This is good stuff, more like this! I knew of the P and S waves but this is the first practical demonstration of the phenomena that I have seen. Good work, sir!
I enjoyed your remote control for the turkeys. It made them gobble very effectively.
This man is slowly but surely eclipsing Vsauce.
Vsauce is dead
@I Am Sekou He was never alive to begin with.
I Am Sekou Michael is a being that will never know death, he couldn’t of been alive if he is incapable of death
They both are different
That happened a long time ago IMO.
That's absolutely priceless! The educational value, the quality... You are a wonderful wizard, Cody! We all appreciate your work so much!

Cody’s Lab was the first RUclips channel I took interest in, and all these years later it’s still as informative and interesting. Everyday’s a school day! Thanks Cody 👌🏽
That shot of Cody in front of the shrubbery is really good wallpaper quality almost 👌
Loved this Cody! I'm glad you're back!! I'm totally surprised the rock's sound transmission was so fast.

How to cure for depression?
Cody: Explosives!!!
Blowing stuff up is rather therapeutic.
Explaination was pretty solid and the best part was the plantation and it was just like taking care of environment without just talking.
I love the fact that you're aways giving something back. Nothing wasted.
Codydon: *Uses thunder-in-a-can to make a crater for an experiment.
Also Codydon: "Let's just plant a tree there!"
Welcome back to my laboratory, also known as nature
Today I'm gonna blow stuff up
For science
It would have been funny if he said "Where safety is #1 priority" just like Taras.
Everyone needs a lab :), I lovingly looked at my linux/electronics work station/books

I am finally freed me from the misconception that density determines speed of sound mostly and simply.
That was a great demonstration and it came with a great explanation. Thank you so much for educating and your experimental approaches.
Greetings from Germany.
