Having also been in Midhurst doing the Short walk around the Old Town area, it brings tears to the eye when you see this kind of thing. It's horrible to see history destroyed like this, and there are no back ups. I can only hope things get shored up and moving soon to get the businesses runing properly again and that proper compensation can be paid. Not easy when society seems to have fallen in love with the "not me guv", and "MIGHT get it done Thursday" mentality.
Thank you, Bernie 😊. We are all hoping that normality returns soon. There is a suggestion that South Downs National Parks are going to shore up the building, but with insurers involved, are they allowed to just do that?
@@KevinsRambles I believe that, if they are the controlling authority for the building, and there is a need to make safe and open up the road, then they can do it.
@stationmasterschoice-walku1307 I really do not think it's as simple as that. English Heritage is involved and is known for moving at a snail pace. 2 different insurance companies, and I hear they can't agree on anything. The hotel is 400 years old and a listed building. I agree with one suggestion, take the front down brick by brick numbering them as they go, then once its all rebuilt, use the removed numbered bricks back. That idea has been used 100s of times and with great success.
@@KevinsRambles Sometimes the simplest of things can be the best. I agree 100% with you about re-using the bricks. Make it all safe and argue about the restoration later. But it may take the National Parks Authority to make the orders if parties can't agree.
Thanks for the video Kevin Midhurst is a favourite as i pass through to Hampshire. Will make a point of parking up and having a wander. Every week i miss it
Thank you, Danny 😊. Much appreciated 🙏. Yes, have a wander Danny, there is more to Midhurst than people realise. If you would like to meet up for a coffee, let me know, and I could show you some points of interest if you do not know Midhurst that well?
@@KevinsRambles Thanks very much Kevin i may well do that, i did have a wander today briefly through there lets hope that something gets done soon. Best wishes👍
Thank you for making this rather sad video Kevin. I can't imagine what it must be like for the town with the North Street closed for so long. One of the worst things to have happened since the Cowdray fire.
Thank you, Nigel 😊. This could not have happened at a worse time for Midhurst. The end of April is fast approaching when everything really starts opening up. Polo starts to get going in its preparation, and the Goodwood festival of speed isn't that far away, really. The owners have their hands tied really
We enjoyed this walk. Great to see all those goslings made it. Sad to hear about the fire and see the damage. It looks like such a pretty place. I hope trade is back up and running soon. 🍻
Thank you 😊. We have had lots of chicks over the years, not survive 😞. Midhurst is a lovely town, and hopefully, soon, it will be thriving again. As things improve, I will go back and update everyone.
What a moving video Kevin. Such overwhelming sadness you feel when seeing the devastation up close. My heart goes out to Midhurst. Thank you for covering this.
It was lovely to visit the town this month but sad to see no more progress on restoring the building. Good to see the street open and some new businesses. We were over from Australia for 2 weeks and tried out all the cafes. There are some lovely cafes in the main street, and of course Cowdry Farm Cafe. Suc a beautiful place to visit.
@JoSaunders Hi Jo, and thank you 😊. The last I heard was that the insurance companies were still arguing about whose insurance covers what. That's just crazy. We certainly have our fair share of cafes. I am so glad you had a lovely visit 😊. Take care and please stay tuned.
Thank you for making this video Kevin. It's important that people know that the businesses need support. Last weekend we had the Midhurst Pound giveaway where people received vouchers to spend in the shops. There is another one being planned and other activities to encourage people to come and visit Midhurst. We had people from quite a distance visiting on Saturday - the furthest being New Zealand 😃 Everyone was being so supportive.
Thank you, Theresa 😊. It was just a spur of the moment decision to go and do it, and I'm really glad I did. I shall go back again, perhaps in a couple of weeks, and see if any other shop owners might like to say something about how they are doing? Keep up the good work. New Zealand, wow, that sure is a long way to come for a voucher 😊.
There's nothing like a big central town fire to create havoc for not only the residents but also the businesses. During the walk the town itself looked lovely - then those fences came into view. You did well to highlight the plight of the business community Kevin. I hope many head your call to come visit and support the local community. Have a good weekend. 👍 🇳🇱 🙋♀ 🇳🇿
I understand there has been quite a few disaster watcher turns turn up to see the fire damage, to me they are sick people. I thought the town might have been a bit busier, there had been a voucher give away that morning, the vouchers were for spending in the town. Hopefully those fences will come down soon. Take care have a great weekend. from the UK.
Hello Kevin, missed this video when you posted it. Hopefully they can restore their business soon. Lovely walk thru town though. Greetings from you're friend from across the pond 🤗
Hi Carolinen thank yoy 😊 I've only just seen your comment from a year ago, I am so sorry 😞. Sadly, the Angel is still covered in scaffolding, and there is no sign of work starting.
Thank you, Phil 😊. Hope you are better? I will speak to them. You know who I mean lol 😆 and look at dates to come and see you. We have a new member of our team now, and hopefully, if she isn't working, perhaps she might be able to join us?
Very sad to see, but thank you sharing and letting people know that they must use the local facilities to keep them going. I feel so sorry for your friend and all the other businesses. It's so easy just to drive around the diversion and not support them. Let's hope they all recover from this tragic event Kevin
Thank you, Lynn 😊. It has hit the town very hard, as you can imagine, and this after the struggles olf trying to pick up the pieces following on from the lockdowns.

Marsh Marigolds beside the pond at the moment. The irises will be out later in the season.

The buses from Chichester can only go as far as the Grange car park.
Cafe Verdi did survive, you will be pleased to know 😀
