You pick your poison singing this way. Age never kind unless you are Sammy Hagar or a few other exceptions. Ray Alder, if not just for a brief time, was all time great worthy. No secret about the booze and smokes, but still support FW 1000%!
He is pretty much struggling with his voice nowadays, and it's sad to see how he too has fallen. Despite all that, he is still the Ray we love and I'm eagerly waiting for Fates' new album.
People go on about the smoking, but from this, the fact is he never learned how to sing that way "correctly," and as such lost his upper register early. Luckily for everyone, his voice as it stands now is absolutely lustrous in its still considerable range.
Thanks for the footage! Ray Alder's great days (he still kicks ass, but he can't hit notes like at 2:13 now)

I don't. Most of the stuff they've done recently sounds like lullabys compared to this.

Just wondering what do you think about Ray and Fates Warning now Long Day Good Night was a snoozefest?

I don't get anything listening to his voice now he sounds like a guy with bad allergies.
