I've always seen James as kind of the Demolition Man of Funhaus. He makes old references that no one understands except Adam (the Sandra Bullock of Funhaus).
I love the friendship all the guys have with Elise. It's so natural and healthy. No one has to tip-toe around topics, especially on the subject at hand.
I'm amazed how it feels like they're in a minority when they say Sonic is still gonna be garbage. How most people think changing his design will make the movie any better than the chipmunks movies is mind boggling. All the mob did was get the crew to patch up a scuff on car that's ready to be in the junkyard
There is a comic book, that came with one of the console games. Sonic was brown with damaged sneakers originally and received a new pair of shoes from a good Dr. Robotnic because he was impressed with his speed. Fast forward, the emeralds go haywire in a lab accident, robotnic turns evil, and sonic is the only one who can stop him.
I would have to disagree with the team here. The internet also came together to shit on PETA when they tried to shame Steve Irwin this year. I'm so proud of this community.
With live action TMNT, we were originally told they'd be aliens. Outcry was so immediate and strong that they changed it. Does no one else remember that?
I'm pretty sure the studio doing the Sonic movie never intended for the first released design to be the final one. This was probably a semi-fake trailer to generate buzz about the movie.
**Tinfoil hats on** Since they were so quick to jump on to change Sonic, I think they intentionally made sonic look worse to get more publicity. Just like what Blizzard did with Tracer in Overwatch, someone brought up that they thought certain pose the character did wasn't "in character" and Blizzard said that they already had thought of changing it but the just did it once someone brought it up. Edit: Maybe not intentionally but knowing it will be criticised and changed later.
I sincerely hope this is actually true, because a studio crunching down on a group of animators to re-do the main character of the movie months before its released is utterly cruel.
I don't think they made Sonic "intentionally look worse" for publicity, but I do agree with you that the studio EXPECTED backlash and that's why they were so quick to say "We'll change it because we want the fans to like it".
I'd like to add on the part that James is talking about at 13:50 Even if the model for Sonic changes, it doesn't entierly mean that all previous work is for nothing. Unless they make acual changes to the old skeleton rig, they can just reuse the old animations. So techically speaking they possibly only have to re-render the model into the shot video footage.
Just became a showrunner and Elyse is already starting Hollywood beef. With James Fowler, no less! YOU THINK YOU CAN ENDURE A TRIP TO FOWLTOWN ELYSE!? Anyway great show, guys.
The Sonic Movie is a prequel to Westworld SE:3 where all the host who made it to the "valley beyond" where Chalores/Delores finally feels sympathy to give Teddy the role he always wanted by 3D printing Sonic to cater to his narrative to become a hero since she basically killed him. So maybe he will finally stop being so clueless and finally be the cowboy/Noble hero he always wanted in her vision of the world beyond Westworld.
Loving the "Disneyland isn't awesome enough" segment this week. Never been to any of them myself, never had the money, but i hope you guys can get through this. Ill pray for you
100 percent was hate mongering based marketing. I'm convinced that the developers intentionally modeled sonic to look that bad on purpose for the trailer. I bet they already had the move with the real version the whole time. Its been proven that if you get people talking about it, its going to grab huge attention. The trailer doesn't look bad excluding the model. The ending of the trailer is what sold me. After seeing how well they made Jim Carrey look, I knew they messed sonic up on purpose. People will intentionally go see the film in theaters just to see how bad it is, and then leave saying "it actually was pretty okay". Bet money.
I feel like the ... after “the best he can be” isn’t him thinking it’s ridiculous, it’s him showing some regret that he ISNT the best he can be right now.
Big respect for mentioning Flipped normals. Thank you for doing the research and talking to the right people. I was going to mention it when James said he'd gone over it. Keep up the good work!
I call bullshit on youtube again since for some weird reason is not poping up the notification when your new episode launches... ...because otherwise I would have missed that beautiful, totally planned intro
crazy theory guy me: - they already did the whole movie with the "new" sonic - did a trailer version with ugly sonic (that we have now) - note that there are so few shots in the trailer with sonic in it - get super hype & attention from the internet - pretend to promise to fix the design - get everyone else consents - release the first movie that they already did in the first place
also, to add to the convo at the mid, I've been a bartender, musician, general manager of a bar and restaurant and now a mixologist, and it happens in every industry (speaking of shortening jobs, rehiring and contract labor), they Will take advantage of you no matter what industry...however, I do understand the games and entertainment industry probably have a worse environment for that, it goes on ALL the time regardless of the industry. Unions can help, but they can also be detrimental. I've learned over the years, if your staff is 20 or less, then you're taken care of for the most part. I think it's the numbers that effects the individuals and their jobs/benefits. Despite, the big thing here is that the bigger the numbers, the more of the shortening....sexism is aside to the negative, a problem that still needs to be resolved, but I think that's more of a civil/social issue that should be dealt with in ways that the ones offended/assaulted (male & female), but the former of the issues needs to be addressed by the BBB, OSHA and any other occupational rights group. The corporations will always look to make the most money and cut corners as much as possibility, which is totally legal (corps are entities as people in the eyes of the law, don't forget), so that's what needs to be fixed, and everything else good will trickle down...imo. Not related to gaming but my wife had to complete a 400 hour unpaid internship for her degree, she chose the place to do the internship based on the promise of a job after. One week before the internship ended they gave her promised position to someone less qualified off the street, then asked her if she wanted volunteer until another position opened. So its not just the gaming industry, that situation happens in a LOT of industries and is a really shitty thing to do.
I think Bruce and Elyse make a really good point about why it's hard to make a Marvel ride. For Nintendo or Star Wars it's really cool just to be a part of that world, but the MCU is just our world with heroes. If we're not the heroes, then we're just us and then what's the point. Like Bruce said, "Who would you be?"
My absolute favorite thing about this sonic situation is they didn’t say what’s gonna change exactly. Sonic could end up much much worse or just simply barely be in the movie at all
Bruce: "There was no way I was ever gonna watch this movie, are you kidding me no way." Also Bruce: ".....except when I expense it through Funhaus, or I watch it on Netflix, or when I'm on a plane.... but there's no way I'm ever actually giving this movie my time and that's final." Bruce is such a cool kid, he just can't be bothered.
James Marsden was in the seminal film Hop in 2011 which is about the following....apparently, Beneath Easter Island, in a giant factory that manufactures the world's Easter candy, the popular rabbit is preparing to pass the mantle to his son, E.B. (Russell Brand). But E.B. has no interest in the job and would rather be a drummer. He runs away to Los Angeles, where an unemployed slacker named Fred O'Hare (James Marsden) accidentally runs into him. Feigning injury, E.B. tricks Fred into giving him shelter, but an oversized chick is planning a coup back on Easter Island.
Adam, you got the Guardians ride first while sacrificing Tower of Terror, so I'm cool with keeping our Tower and getting a new Guardians ride, but excited a Marvel park is opening in California, hopefully I'll find a way to visit
Your fantasies can't ever be quenched, CAN THEY? You frick'n fricks! When will you learn; When will you learn, that your actions HAVE CONSEQUENCES!!??!
the main reasons to put an arbitration clause in a contract are to save the company money (court cases are much much much much more expensive than private arbitration) and to prevent a class action lawsuit (can result in a huge loss for the company with little effort on the employees part) Source: worked in the legal department of a very large international corporation
I think the redesign was necessary. Sure the movie will still be bad. But it will be a movie some people will see instead of noone will see. I just wish they chose to push back the release to give the animators some time. But I understand timetables are hard to move.
Man this is a great podcast, everyone is in a great mood and their talking points are honest and informative. James as the host was fucking awesome too 😁
The trailers depicts that Sonic can almost stop time... but he gets hit with a damn dart... that alone is enough to garantee that i would never see this movie unless like Bruce i get tied down.

Best intro so far! 😂
So the james internship joke was because machinima juggled him as contractor and didn't want to give him job benefits
Nice
we laugh so we don't cry
I wonder if hes gonna work this summer. i hope so this ep. was good
Cristian Ramirez I’ll say the n word if you do ❤️
I really really want them to do a podcast about Demolition man :(
Have Alanah sit in without a clue about what is going on.
I've always seen James as kind of the Demolition Man of Funhaus.
He makes old references that no one understands except Adam (the Sandra Bullock of Funhaus).
Bruce: NO!
Yesssss
Yes! The Rat Burger Cast.
That intro gave me flashbacks to episode one. Good times.
Intro was golden. :)
#225 and this kinda intro, what a funhaus video
I just need more close ups of James' face
I love the friendship all the guys have with Elise. It's so natural and healthy. No one has to tip-toe around topics, especially on the subject at hand.
Speaking of board as hell when is that coming back THE PEOPLE DEMAND IT!
This can only end well for the artists involved 😅
Thanks for the shout out! And keep up the good work

Funniest intro in ages, you can already tell everyone is in a good mood for the podcast.
Hearing James and company talk and joke about Sonic is one of my favorite things ever
Bames and Jruce back at it again
Bames and Jruce or Brames and Juce?
What an intro!
"Michael Bay is a genius" -Bruce
Well he tricked billions of people for giving him jobs that pays hundreds millions of dollars.
He is a genius.
@@nntflow7058 how did he trick anybody?
Why was this intro actually my favorite of all Dude Soups? 😂
I would have to disagree with the team here. The internet also came together to shit on PETA when they tried to shame Steve Irwin this year.
I'm so proud of this community.
Everyone hates PETA though.
@@FaffyWaffel This is true. However, most of us forget just how much we hate them until they open their gobs.
@@johnviney3482 they ended animal testing on many states.
@@Luchingador lmao
This was the best Dude Soup opening yet. Also Bruce's attitude towards Sonic only reinforces the belief I have that Bruce secretly loves Sonic
With live action TMNT, we were originally told they'd be aliens. Outcry was so immediate and strong that they changed it. Does no one else remember that?
I did
I'm pretty sure the studio doing the Sonic movie never intended for the first released design to be the final one. This was probably a semi-fake trailer to generate buzz about the movie.

Oh man what a intro! Gives me a Talking Stalkings nostalgia!
BESSST PART OF WAKIN UP, IS JAMES' SPUNK IN YOOO CUPPPP!!
i like my morning walks personally
What if this was all an elaborate ruse? They released a bad Sonic design and then change it to a less worse one to seem like they care...
The original sonic design looks like a child wearing a onesie.
That intro tho!
James is the glue that holds this team together!!

The film/games/video production industry discussion is one of the best this podcast has had across all episodes.

James’ hair looks really good in this video
I like that art work of Adam in the thumbnail. I feel like that's how he would look if he was in Borderlands.
It's like a real life scooter.
That curl on James sexy head was sooo distracting, I came here for Sonic bashing and came from James.
Looks like we came together
i love seeing James eyes light up anytime he talks about Sonic. If funhaus was in the sonic world, who would each person be?

I love Sonic, Bruce. Why do you hurt me?
Lol James Marsden was like the 'kenny' of westworld because he died in like every single episode
