I have a 20gal long planted tank with large-small size rocks making caves with a large piece of drift wood. Plant light is on a timer kept on 12hr a day. Temp kept at a constant 78 degrees. I have 1 male betta fish, 3 sword tails(2 female,1 Male) 3 harlyquinn rasboras, 1 rescued fish(looks like an off bred guppy but not sure) 6 neon tetras and 4 salt and pepper corydoras. I "micro dose" with salt. I use it to add minerals and the good stuff fish need, but I only do a tablespoon for my 30 gallon, 1/2 tablespoon for my 20 gallon, and a pinch for my nano planted tanks. Since doing so I do notice a difference in my fish. I think salt is great preventive care. I'll say it like this, I've never had a sick fish, but my husband who doesn't use salt has. He's dealt with ich, hole in the head, dropsy, fungal infections, and I have not.

@@thegoonerz I dissolve the salt into some tank water first then pour the salty water into the tank. Aquarium co op has some good dosing guidelines if you're looking for how much salt to add. Also, when you replace salt after a water change make sure you only add salt for the new (unsalted) water not the whole tank volume. Few days ago I see a tear on one of my guppy like she has two tails, I put salt in it and separated bully glo out from the rest of the fish and guppy healed his tail back to normal. Now here in Canada they don’t take fish back due to COViD and I am not going to let fish free anywhere so I had to invest in another aquarium to keep glo fish separately from guppy aquarium until I figure out how to keep harmony in between as I can afford only one aquarium tank

Hey KG topicals, you should have talked about how if you have a zeolite mixed media you shouldn't use salt as the salt will potentially release the ammonia back into the water column

So if the fish let out salt and you have a heavily stocked aquarium, would that mean that they can just get the required salt from what the other fish let out? Share with each other kinda thing?

I keep aquarium salt around for tank changes. I had to put my one fish in a brand new tank when we moved from the east coast to the west, and now almost a year later, i changed the substrate to sand, and I think he managed well without serious complications because I used the salt. I just wanna play it safw. He's an old fishie.

How long should I keep a fish isolated that I am treating for a bacterial/ parasite problem. It is an OB Peacock about 5" long. It has been about a week since I isolated him and he was showing improvement within about 2 days. He has started eating again about 2 days ago so he is doing a lot better now. I am looking for some help. Thanks in advance.
