Penny was great but the team was good they had nick Anderson who was a brilliant player , Horace grant a good two way player , royal who was a good defender . With Shaw and Dennis Scott off the bench it was a great team to be honest. Ranked no.1 in offence when they got to the finals but it was always the defence who let them down

@@petesmart1983 the orlando defense didnt miss 4fts in a row at the end of game1...andersons career never really recovered from that chokefest...if they had stayed together and penny had stayed healthy they probably would have dethroned the bulls in 1998...by the time they got swept in 96 Shaq and Penny were no longer on great terms with each other and he was eyeballing an exit strategy...Grant was also injured during the 96ecf and anderson was snakebitten. was disappointing to see how things played out for Seattle and Orlando... Kemp basically did the same thing to Seattle that Shaq did to the Magic...each of those 2 teams if theyd stayed together and healthy woulda had a shot at dethroning Chicago in 1998...

I own a blue Orlando Magic jersey with Shaq's number and it's my favorite sports jersey of all time (followed by the white and black pinstripe jerseys from Shaq's days in Orlando). Congratulations, Shaq! I wish he would have stayed in Orlando longer but he probably made the right career choice for himself, which has to be respected.

As dominant as Shaq was he won’t even be the second pick for my time and the reason is simple. Despite all the talent he had, he didn’t become the goat. May it be his laziness or team hopping, he just won’t be staying. I need MJ, Kobe, Hakeem or Curry for my first pick. As a team owner, gm, or coach I need my franchise player to stay and develop the team.

I could go for MJ, and Hakeem is an under rated pick, but man you're not a great GM if you take the other two in an all time re-draft. Steph can't guard me or you and Kobe is the most inefficient player ever and it's not even close. Both would need a really good team around them to win. And as an owner, gm, or even coach I just need to win and I know I will at least once with Shaq. The others are a dice roll. Remember it's a re-draft not a re-history. Even Jordan wouldn't be a 100% bet to win a title on any team now. @@neil8lin

I'm glad they showed that highlight clip of Shaq in his early year in the league. Young folks forget or have no idea how dominant Shaq was in the league immediately after getting drafted. He wasted no time making an impact, not just for the Magic, but also taking the league by storm in his early years.
It's kinda silly. That's my childhood team. I grew up watching Penny and McGrady. This should have happened earlier. Penny and McGrady should be next!

I’m a Knicks fan but when I was a young kid I loved the Magic because Shaq and Penny were my favorite players. They started my love affair with basketball. Congrats to the most dominant player in NBA history you deserve it!
Literally followed him since he got drafted and ended with the Lakers. Definitely earned it, and thank you for being an inspiration for me while I was in school and played Center my whole basketball life.

I lived in Orlando during this time and it was so exciting. You could go down to the original O-Rena and pick up tickets in the upper bowl for 25 bucks. I saw Shaq play Hakeem, saw him score 53 on Minnesota, and so many more great moments. Every time he got the ball the crowd stood. He would just do something no one has seen before. Admittedly it broke my heart when he left for Los Angeles, but over time those wounds have healed. Congrats on a great milestone!

Here is a fact people should know about the Magic with Shaq.
Shaq in the 1995 NBA finals averaged 28.5 points per game on 59.5% shooting from the field, 12.5 rebounds per game and 6.5 assists per game.
He had the best numbers of all players in the 1995 nba finals, including Hakeem.
Penny hardaway also had great numbers that series. 50% from the field, 46% from 3 point range, and 25.5 points per game and 8 assists per game.
The reason the magic lost that series was because the Magic's starting wings, Dennis Scott and Nick Anderson, shot 31% and 36% from the field.

Magic lose by 2 points.
Shaq leads his team in box plus minus as well at 8. Better than Hakeem's BPM of 4.
Up to the final choke minutes Nick Anderson also has one and only good game. Shooting 50% from the field with the second best BPM on the team at 7.5.
After this he has a huge mental breakdown and shoots 9-32 the rest of the series and only shoots above 30% once in game 2 at 30.8% on 4-13 shooting.
Game 2
Shaq goes 12-22. 33 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists.
his teammates went 27-63 from the floor.
Magic lose by 11
Shaq has the second best box plus minus on his team at 7. number 1 was penny in this game at 8.1
Hakeem has a negative BPM at -2.7
It should be noted that Shaq played 45 minutes in this game.
And the 3 minutes he was not on the floor was absolutely devastating for the Magic as Anthony Bowie had a BPM of -32.4 on 3 minutes played and Jeff Turner had a negative BPM of -11.8 on 11 minutes played.

Shaq goes 11-17
28 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists.

magic lose by 3.
Shaq has a postive BPM again of 8.8. Penny is first at 10.6
both ahead of Hakeem who had a BPM of 6.7
Dennis Scott has by far the worst performance in this game going 2-11 with a BPM of -10.1 in 39 minutes played and is the biggest reason the Magic lose game 3.
Game 4
11-19 . 25 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists.
his teammates went 27-62 from the floor.
Magic lose by 12.
First time Shaq has a negative BPM of -1.9 but mostly because he plays 46 minutes in this game and his teammates as usual are unable to hit their open shots generated from Shaq being constantly double teamed/
If you do the maths here, you will see that Shaq was the main reason the Magic even had a chance of making it to the finals let alone staying in each of the games.
He was doubled virtually every possession he received the ball in the post since game 1. Yet still managed to put up solid numbers every game he played in.
The only reason he didn't score more than 30 was because he was double teamed instantly every time he got the ball in the post.
One of the greatest magicians of all time.

I grew up having the privilege watching Shaq play at the PMac a couple of times and was a fan ever since. I instantly became a fan of the Orlando Magic. I remember playing NBA Live 94 and playing with the Magic. Penny, 3D, Nick Anderson, Horace Grant, and Shaq. I had Shaq and Penny's shoes. I even liked Kazaam. I don't care what anyone says, that movie was pretty good when i was a kid I got it on VHS. 😅
When you moved to LA, it felt weird to me. I still think if you would've stayed with the Magic, you guys would've won a lot of rings. People just don't know how good Penny and the other guys were. If Penny never got hurt, he would've been considered one of the greats. I'm glad they finally cemented your legacy in Orlando. Congratulations Dr. Shaq ❤
