    This is a primer on setting up limit and home switches for a CNC machine. Focus will be on the concept of wiring for NO (normally open) and NC (normally closed) techniques and using the bit as the reference for the homing.

    Well it's a common style of vloggers to basicly say a sentence 15 different ways and then splitting all those clips in 15 pieces, and showing a piece of every clip, so it completes into a sentence. It's a very distinct style and takes practice to master. But you're getting there!

    putting my limit switches on right now! my bluechick is awesome. im obsessed with this now, all those years of not being able to do government jobs on work machines, now i can do anything!

    Thanks. Yes, I went editing wild! I get comments that tell me to do the editing, so I try to remove as much of the pauses as possible. I have no experience with vidoeing or editing, so bare with me as I get experience. I will try to retain some balance of pauses, but I do agree that it is a bit tenuous.

    That is true in my case too, due to trying to think of the most accurate and appropriate phrase. I must say that it is a tedious exercise, but it beats stopping the camera and deleting frames.

    I have been reading threads on home and limit switches. All seems pretty straight forward how i need to clarify before i start wiring and get my hands dirty.
    Question/s:
    1 - As I understand there are two schools of thought for home/limit wiring, one is to wire X Y Z on separate pins with a common across each axis.The other, using a single pin (1) across all axis.
    A - Advantages / disadvantages to each (using Mach3)?
    B- Does the actual switch configuration matter (NC or NO)?
    2 - With a probe, do you really need Z home and limit?

    hi when I hit the auto setup inputs signals button maxh3 says this is for printer port only? and will not open the next page where you go the settings ?

    • @PatrickHoodDaniel
      @PatrickHoodDaniel  6 лет назад

      If you are not using a parallel port for the communication to the CNC, then you will need to set up the inputs manually.

    Can i use the X-- limit switch for homing or i have to put anothe switch?Thank you in advanced.

    • @PatrickHoodDaniel
      @PatrickHoodDaniel  6 лет назад

      Yes, you can use the limit switches as both home and limit switches, even if they are on the same input pin.

    What if I'm running the Ethernet smooth stepper says can only run automatic setup in printer port mode

    • @PatrickHoodDaniel
      @PatrickHoodDaniel  6 лет назад

      The automatic setup is only available if the software has direct connection to the limit switches. The parallel port has a direct connection to the limit switches. Mach3 cannot determine the state of a limit switch through an Ethernet or USB as these are made for instruction and the limit switch states goes through an external device (the smooth stepper).
      Here is another way to think about it. The software is processed through the CPU and the parallel port is directly connected to the CPU (similar to GPIO pins). When Mach3 polls the specific pin (through address calling), then Mach3 can directly determine the state of that pin. The pin may be connected to a limit switch (input pin), or an output stated like a pulse for the stepper motors, or turning something on or off.

    • @kaleip
      @kaleip 6 лет назад

      Patrick Hood-Daniel so there is no way to run limit switches with the smooth stepper? I just need it for the z homing. I got the smooth stepper because Windows 10 parallel port is non functional any advise ?

    • @PatrickHoodDaniel
      @PatrickHoodDaniel  6 лет назад

      No, I was referring to your question regarding "automatic" setting. Go ahead and use the manual setting approach according to the smooth stepper instructions.

      Patrick Hood-Daniel on my c10 breakout board I have zero 5 volt power from pins 10 and on could the ess be preventing my limit switches from working? Or the pull up pull down? Idk would adding a jumper with 5v be a bad idea ? Trying to get my floating torch plate working...any help is appreciated

      Patrick Hood-Daniel does mach3 make my Wi-Fi disappear on my computer even after I created 2 separate networks ? This is the second computer where my internet capability disappears after using mach for a few days

    Great information but less with the editing, its is just to much information to quickly, pauses are good, lets people digest what you have said, it also makes you sound like a computer generated voice.
