  • I enter Chamelecon, a feared and stigmatized sector of San Pedro Sula, Honduras, to build a two-story school. I bring volunteers from my foundation and students from my school-the Villa Soleada Bilingual School. Some of them are afraid to enter as the sector is known as a red zone. But seeing that the children are studying under a nylon shed, enduring sun and rainwater, all are motivated to work hard to begin the construction. All the teachers and students of Chamelecon join us in the effort.
Suddenly a large donation from the Indufesa hardware store and a lunch from the Vive Sanu restaurant arrive to motivate us. We explore the streets of Chamelecon, try street foods, visit student houses, and go down to the Chamelecon River.
That day, I had the opportunity to see the progress of the construction and see the great change in the perspective of my students towards Chamelecon.
