I feel like hearing myself dimmed will really help cuz I tend to speak a little to calm for others to understand me because I always think I don’t want to sound to loud or pressed while taking.

Hi Elena and everyone here. Last month I was in such severe sensory overload from neighbours' noises, I went in desperation to an audiology clinic and
bought some expensive ear plugs (Serenity Choice/sleep). They made no difference whatsoever! But the audiologist took moulds of my ears, and since
wearing the silicone ones especially made for my ears I have felt incredible relief at being able to escape into a bearable (for me) noise level. If I want complete silence, I use ear muffs as well. (They hurt a bit)
This breakthrough prompted me to research autism (I thought I knew), and I discovered very quickly (at age 70) I am on the spectrum. How life changing, in a good way. (I'm writing from NZ; are you by any chance a Kiwi too Elena?) Thanks so much for your posts. Will look up the Apple air pods. Love to all.

Wow I didn't even know there was something like this. I don't have an issue with noise, but it is nice to know about these kinds of things to pass it on to someone who might need it.

@@elenacarr0ll Yeah! Whenever I needed hearing protection, it was annoying to keep taking foam plugs out and putting them in again. Not having that frustration for someone who would use these on a regular basis must be absolutely amazing.
I often see problems related to disabilities overlooked, so it is nice to see this kind of product out there!

I had the exact same problem as you when it came to swapping to a different bud size. I even googled it beforehand and followed the Loop RUclips video advice ! It took me a very frustrating 20 mins to arrive at a technique that worked ......which basically involved a slightly different technique to the one Loop advised and considerably more force !! I use the Loop Engage earplugs for autism related noise sensitivity and do find them pretty good I have to say. Good review by the way !

Hey Elena just wanted to confirm your thoughts on the loop earplugs, I absolutely love mine. I do not have autism but I do have misphonia. So only certain sounds cause me problems. I also found that when I'm more tired my tolerance for those particular sounds goes down even further and some sounds that wouldn't normally bother me otherwise then do. I mainly use mine for public transport and shopping trips. And windy days outside when things repeatedly knock against each other in the strong breeze. Tho unfortunately for me i like all the coloured loops and have spent a small fortune on them 😂.

I got the loop quiet ones, and I didn't have a problem changing the tips. It wasn't easy, but i got it in a minute. It was just snug enough that I'm not worried about the tips popping off and getting stuck in my ears.
I did have problems with the sizes though, I just can't seem to find the right one... need to test it more.
The funny thing is, that I can hear myself blink with the earplugs on, lol.

Hear yourself blink??? I was about to buy a set of Quiet 2 so I keep my suburban house even quieter (almost all my neighbors have some F-150 or similar truck…) but the fact that these buds can make me hear my own blinks sounds insanely annoying. Thanks for making me second-guess this purchase, I’ll have to do more research.

Thank you for the thoughtful review! I love your Reddit suggestion for changing tips. Do you have any idea whether using a paintbrush might work with my Loop Quiets? At this point, the medium tips fall out too much so I'm hoping to try the large.

I found them to be a bit plasticky feeling. I wish it was a softer type silicone. And I feel like there needs to be a size between xxs and xs - feels too small / too big. I wore them once and haven't tried again since. I do have a set of noise cancelling headphones though which are fantastic in the office to cancel out office noises and other people talking.

So how do they work? If I am walking in the hallway and there is way too much noise will engage silent it and let me hear someone in front of me later in a class or just muffle it. my problem is not the noise it’s all the different voices all saying different things.

    • @elenacarr0ll
      @elenacarr0ll  5 месяцев назад +1

They will just dull the noise around you, you will still be able to clearly hear what people are saying. If you don’t want any noise I would suggest the Apple AirPods, they completely cancel noise

Hey! I'm also on the spectrum, and one of my biggest daily problems is noise, especially people talking and low-frequency resonances.
One thing I want to know: Is it possible to not hear anything people around me say when wearing these earplugs?
I don't want to hear their voices at work, not even at a low level. Can this give me that, or does it just tone down the voices but still is possible to hear (and understand) every word?
    Thanks!

"Calmers" by Flare do not muffle the sound of your own voice and they're very effective at taking the "ouch" out of ambient sounds. They are tapered and hollow, almost like a cone, but bent to conform to the opening of the ear canal and with a flat spot inside to cancel the resonance (the "ouch") of common everyday sounds.
I first tried the "Night" Calmers because they were described as softer -- designed for sleep. Nice!! When I woke the next morning, I went to open a breakfast shake mix packet, which crinkling sound almost always hurts my inner ears, and I didn't feel the usual impact of each little crunch and rip of the packet. 🤔 Curious, I removed one Calmer and crinkled the packet. That ear went Ouch! I put the Calmer back and crinkled the packet again. No "Ouch"! They definitely make a difference. 🤗
I also tried the smaller "mini" size because I, too, have smaller ear canals that kind of "spit out" inserts that are too big. My ears are still spitting out the mini Calmers, but maybe because mini is too small?? I dunno. I'll have to look for the regular size Night Calmers that I put "somewhere safe" .. 🙄 .. and unintentionally hid them from myself. Ugh!
      😂
