Happy Lesbian Visibility Day! 💖🧡🤍 In honour of today, we thought we’d talk about all the time we were NOT visible 😭 Are there any other lesbian couples out there who experience the same thing??
Today, actually, me and my girlfriend were hanging out and her friend asked if we were siblings 🤣 So since today I've also decided to keep a list! I mean, we may look KINDA similar, but she's quite a bit taller than me and her hair's brown - mine's dark blonde that's a little brown in some parts. Idk. I never really thought we looked that similar for anyone to mistake us as siblings but I guess there's a first time for everything!
Funny thing that as a cis straight man when I have been somewhere with my sister people think that we are couple. Society should change that much that man and woman together are not necessarily couple and woman and woman or man and man can be couple.
We don't look alike so never got the 'are you sisters?' question, but we have two kids, so we seem to constantly get people assuming we're mom friends. The strangest one was an ultrasound appointment when someone assumed the same thing about being mom friends. Not that I don't think two friends would go to an appointment together, just weird that was their first thought given most of the time from what I hear, it's more of a couple's thing. Always love your videos by the way.
The kid story is sooo insanely cute. I had a kid do the same to me (female) with my friend (male) before i was out, because him and i seem like we were together but were just close friends. Still the best story of kid interactions. Ps. Love you both so much, you make me very happy anytime i feel down❤
The first video i watched of you was your diary of how you met, and I swear even after seeing your face for 20mins, when it got to the fast couple's photo compilation I wasn't able to figure out which one of the 2 was Lauren in a single photo. You said no one has said why you look the same, so here goes: your proportions, chin/jaw, nose shape, smile, your actual voice, hair color/cut/do, facial expressions. Clearly if we knew your faces well the differences would jump out, but that would probably take a few hours of really looking at you.
My girlfriend and I have different colored hair and eyes, different face shapes and features, and body types and we have still been asked many times if we are sisters or even twins. I think it is just a thing for many lesbian couples, unfortunately.
Funny story, I was dating someone and we're different races and look totally different. We got asked if we were friends, then we got asked if we were siblings (the person asking tried to make it funny like "oh so you're from different parents") and then asked if we were friends, again, and when we corrected the person and told him we were dating, he was so confused he just walked away.
Me and my sister (both gay) frequently get mistaken for a lesbian couple! We're full sisters but we don't look that similar, we have some of the same features but different hair colour, different eye colour, very different heights, very different weights, different hair texture, different clothes style. I think people maybe mistake both of you for sisters because you are similar heights, weights, similar dress sense. You also do have similar nose shapes, similar mouth shapes, similar face shapes, similar eyes, your lower lids are different though. Yiu definitely look more alike than me and my sister. Though there are still so many differences!
Me and my twin sister are non identical twins, she's straight and I'm gay. I was walking back from school with her and a kid said "got yourself a girlfriend there mate!" Like why? Anyway we didn't respond but if it happens again I'm gonna say no and they'll get really embarrassed and it'll be really funny
A lot of couples do look similar, so I can sort of see what people are saying, but also you are clearly not sisters… My Dentist once called my mum my sister, and she dose not look my age. Haha 😅 Also, congratulations! I am so happy for you two! You two are such the perfect couple, and are truly what I hope to achieve in my future relationships. 😊
I think it happens more to homosexual couples, but this used to happen to my parents as well! The funny thing is that they're from completely different countries (my dad is Colombian, and my mom is Italian) so HOW
Two things. 1) Gal Pal, I hope the foot recovery is going well. 2) I think you girls might have started something, because no we are maybe gonna start count the days until we get a proposal video. I know you girls are still looking at rings, but still. Amazing video.
Oh my goodness the outro music was such a throwback to the old videos awwwww made me so happy also so happy for you and Erin!! I love your videos you two look so happy ❤️❤️❤️
you noticed 🥹🥹🥹 i wasn't sure if anyone would notice! i watched an old video and was like ... wonder if i can throw that in a new video for nostalgia! ahahah also tysm!!!
Me and my wife are not usually asked if we are sisters but I think some people from my college may have caught on, as I spend a lot of time with my wife during the day, this sounds horrible but I promise she is 32 and I’m 28 but she’s one of my professors so it gets a little tricky because obviously we don’t want to tell everyone but also don’t want to have to be away from each other all day.
I remember my boyfriend telling me that a few years ago he was in a similar situation in a estate agents and they just casually asked are you related. So he signalled to his then boyfriend to move closer and they snogged for at least 3 minutes in front of everyone..Their final words were "Do you get it" They got their flat,,The break ups another story lol
I had the reverse. I (male) went on holiday with my son (30 years younger) to Mexico - the staff and fellow guests assumed we were boyfriends from the off (the rose petals strewn over our beds was a nice touch, the restaurant table away from the other guests not so much!). We went with it for a few days until revealing the truth.
I have sort of the reverse issue with people thinking my moms not actually my mom or that im adopted or something bc at a first glance we don't look alike cause shes blonde and blue eyed i have dark brown hair brown eyes but like we actually have similar face shapes and facial characteristics if people bothered to look. I lived in austria when i was seven and i sometimes got lost in the supermarket and when austrians found me and i pointed to my mom, they said "are you sure that's your mom" or another time when me and my brother were goofing off and someone got mad and started yelling at this random brown haired lady cause they thought she was our mom instead of our actual mom standing right next to us...life's just rough ig but like i get how you guys feel it sucks sometimes
At real that make your relationship cuter than ever I've heard before that people who are very, very close catch a glimpse of each other's resemblance,,, If they are couples, friends or anything
I do see the similarities and why some may think you're related but i guess just the similar hair colour and sometimes style but its funny you made the list out of it and laughing about it
I (female) was hanging out with a friend (female) and the guy working asked if we were on a date and then immediately followed that with "are you sisters?" Like, how and why would you go from one to the other?
HAPPY LESBIAN VISIBILITY DAYYYYYY (i didn't even know this day existed but im so glad i know now :3) My girlfriend and i apparently "used" to look similar and someone thought we were sisters (even though i was a whole head taller than her) and our music teacher called me by her name the other week and didn't correct it- it was very funny. I don't think we look similar at all but others do for some strange reason =v=
Lol. This makes me think of supernatural and how everyone always thinks Sam and Dean are a couple instead of brothers. And also makes me think if RENT: “Hey Mister. We’re sisters!”
It's great that you're able to laugh about it, although it must be really annoying to be asked if you were siblings. This is probably one of the biggest misconceptions in wlw relationships. I heard it quite a few times from wlw friends of mine who look nothing alike.
This song a couple thing, but one time me and my mum were at the pool and this lady came up to us and said something and thought we were sisters There's a 35 year age gap between us😂

Happy Lesbian Visibility Day Lauren and Galpal. Excited to hear you're looking for engagement rings. I wish for you many happy years together, fishing and reading, reviewing, and camping. I know I'm guilty of telling you that your physical similarities, (Facial) can lead casual onlookers down the wrong path, but here's a twist for you. I honestly think it's fine not to come out to every single person. Sexuality is a part of who we are, but not the whole thing, and it kinda isn't other people's business. Straight people don't have to announce to everyone that they're straight, it only comes up really if they're talking about a partner. That being said, I feel like it's far more common for a lesbian couple to be assumed as friends or sisters than a gay couple due to gender stereotypes, and that really frustrates me tbh.

I got a really intelligent, kind, progressive, humorous, talented, beloved uncle and he's also gay and I must admit I am urged to tell other people about "my gay uncle". And I think that is ok. And also, it has something to do with visibility. But I need to think about that without reducing his whole personality to it, I guess. I'd also not like it if someone reduced me to my bisexuality. I think it's also my upbringing. My family very much reduced him to this. So I guess I need to unlearn this. Thanks for reminding me!
You look enough alike that I would ask "Did your girlfriends bail on you so you had to bring your sister" on a lesbian couples dinner... No kidding, I more often assumes girls ARE lesbians when they aren´t, and I still would have guessed sisters on you, not twins, but absolutely sisters (luckily straight girls are much less offended by that then straight guys are atleast) And for kids, they usually don't need any further explanation, they just accept that some girls have a girlfriend ant that's cool with them, that's so precious.
Most of these interactions sound like low effort small talk that the people think is inoffensive if their underlying assumption ends up wrong because they don't ever think about gay people. I think you look similar enough that I'm not surprised, but I wouldn't comment on it either because I don't care to do social niceties unless absolutely necessary.
If my grandma asked if you were sisters (she loves talking to strangers about their family histories), I'd probably make a gal pal roommates even joke while showing the trans flag I paint on my finger nails
It is kind of curious that you get asked that so often. While you're not vastly different to each other, neither are you, as Erin put it, "structurally similar". (And twins? Seriously?? That would have had to be sororal twins, and then it would just be the sister question again.) On the other hand, siblings aren't necessarily very similar either, in fact, Lauren's actual sister (I forgot her name but she has participated in some videos) isn't that similar to Lauren that you would automatically go "yep, definitely sisters", at least not in my eyes. I think it is a question of people's brains trying to come up with an explanation for your obvious closeness that doesn't involve "gayness". Now that could be anywhere from the benign case of people just not used to think in LGBTQA++ terms (so "sister" comes much quicker to mind than "lesbian couple") all the way up to active denial of your relationship (hopefully much less common).
I think actually everyone is coming from the place of the 5 year old and realise you seem close but don't make the connection. The others should just know better than a 5 year old
I mean you do look kinda alike? But then, not twins, not sisters but more like cousins. I wanted to come out on the visibility day, but then saw it too late.
