    I have a new appreciation for the Orton Effect! I know just the photo that
    I am going to apply it to. I enjoyed your clear and concise instruction.

    Thank you very much for such a clear tutorial. You are such a good teacher Brian. I have learnt so much from you. I love the Orton effect and I now feel I can have a try at it with a lot more confidence. I can see what you are doing to the image and why you are doing it. Thumbs up.

    Never have tried the Orton effect but just so happens I have a couple of waterfall shots to edit and will give it a spin. Thanks, Brian for a great tutorial.

    Interesting, I apply the levels to the Gusian blur layer ... maybe I should try your method...

    Hey Brian, excellent job on building the Orton Effect from scratch and using it for the best result rather than a one-click plug-in filter. One question: when applying levels, would it work to clip it so it only affects the Orton copy?

    • @brianmatiash
      @brianmatiash  5 лет назад

      Yup! In fact, I originally had a point to clip the Levels adjustment layer to the Orton layer... BUT I FORGOT TO when I recorded! I didn't realize it until after I uploaded and was too lazy to re-edit and upload. Shhhh. Don't tell anyone!

    Tks for the video. for me, i will use orton effect on water, highlight part, foggy and mist part, and back ground of the image, as you said it will add depth. And not only with mask and brush, i will use lumin mask to select certain part of the image.

    You forgot to mention the fact that the Lightroom "Auto" button used to be shi*. I'm extremely glad they made it a very good "first edit" button now. I use it all the time. Great tutorial Brian, and you're spot on about getting carried away using the Orton effect, I created an Orton Effect action and found myself running it on lots of images, until I realized that I was getting carried away! It's such a lovely and dramatic effect if used correctly.

      Oh man, how right you are! That Auto button used to be tragically bad. I'd never be caught dead using it. But, ever since Adobe tied it to their Sensei AI, it has gotten light-years better.
      Thanks so much for watching and for the kind feedback!

      @@brianmatiash According to Jeff Schewe, Adobe used his editing with ML/AI to improve the 'AUTO' button in LR. :)

      Alain Marcel interesting! That's quite a bold claim but if it's true, that's super cool!

    Brian, I need to attend OEA, Orton Effect Anonymous. I know I use the effect, and similar ones, far too much, but I can’t help myself. I go through my workflow, get to the end, and think, I wonder what it would look like with a Dark Glow? Next thing I know, my mouse has crept over to the menu and away we go down the dreamy path. I have learned how to be judicious with it, as you suggested, masking out main subjects and detail areas, but man is it hard to avoid creating an effect that I almost think of as my part of my style. Do you know of a 12 step program? Bruce

    • @brianmatiash
      @brianmatiash  5 лет назад

      The first step is admitting you have a problem, Bruce. The second step is to back away from the Orton slowly. I totally get what you're saying, though. There are certain techniques that I almost always go to first and sometimes, I have to remind myself to try taking a different route. You're amongst friends here 🤣
