Great video first off. M17 has intrigued me since I learned of it. The price of these boards is a no-brainer for the tinkering type of ham for sure! Just bought one and can't wait to try it out. 73 N9NDB
Just got my two boards in the mail. Now I have what I need to follow along. I am going to try to use and ID-880H as I believe it is capable of 9600 baud.
Huh. My Yaesu ft2600m has a 9600-capable db9 connector. Right now I have no interest in M17, but I am ready if that changes. Might be nice if there was a programming cable option for callsign, etc., even if it is a complex dfu-util command.
There are a few different ways to consume now - this turns your 9600 capable radio into an M17 radio, there is the ZumRadio dongle and there are some software programs as well... but that's not real radio!
@@temporarilyoffline The president of our club (Granite State Amateur Radio Association) is an M17 guy. I've got an FT-991A and an FTM-300DR which will work with the module. If I can unkill the battery on that MD-380, there's the firmware for that. And I'm a linux guy, so mvoice should be easy. I just need to have this pop up to the top of the list. I did buy the module, though, so once again watching you has cost me money. Though I did save a bit of money by going for a solder DB-9.

I like the m17 cause its has one more round than an M-16. 😂. My yaesu 857 has a data port and does 9600 bps. Hf m17 ? What if ?😂. Also be careful when plugging or unplugging anything into that data port.. if its anything like the 857. YOU MAKE SURE THE RADIO IS OFF BEFORE YOU PLUG OR UNPLUG THE PORT. Theres voltage on it and it has an smd fuse. The smd 3a fise can be bypassed and u put an inline fuse holder w 3a and then if it ever blows its easy to change. Ask me how i know 😂.
I was expecting recycled nuggets. This is even better than leftovers.
Thanks, I have found that a lot of people don't watch live streams or don't watch short form videos and so I try to do both sometimes

They have a newer/easier board out now. Give it a shot... also a dead sexy red case for it too!
Awesome vid, thanks!
You bet. Super easy setup!
Im SOO glad you you said what DFU meant early on .. in IT DFU means something completely different hehe .. Great video!!
Exactly!
cool stuff
Thanks
Nice work Man, tnx!
Can always count on you VC! Much appreciated!
Thanks! Might give this a try. Not great with cables so fingers crossed. Don’t know if you saw but someone is preselling 2 different M17 HT’s
I saw, the M17 boys are working hard!
Yes and they're waaaayyy overpriced

Check the manual, probably is. Is the cable pinout on the website?
Just found the pinout in the manual page 158. The radio is capable 9600 packet.

There are a lot of 9,600 capable radios out there but for some reason the world seem to have forgotten about 9,600 radio
Do you know of any weather resistant implementations of the case?
Not yet.
TO is dressed for a cold summer 😂
Cold AC!
Steve....can you do a video on using Winlink / other digital modes with the FTM-6000? It appears not many have.
I have to make a winlink gateway first - no 2m gateways near me - after that, sure thing!
I suppose that I should. I gripe about the proprietary digital voice modes often enough.

Having dificulty flashing via windows any help out there?
dfu-util should still work. Just need the com port, right?

@@BuddyLee hmm. I don't have much direct experience with it, but try a piece of software called Zadig and reach out in the m17 discord for help.
Watched a bad installation video which through me off course. Your Zadig cpmment sent down a different course and a sucessful imstall
@@BuddyLee sweet, glad it helped!
So what is m-17? Might Want to start there to attract people to your videos.
That's a great idea - I've done other videos on "what is M17", but this one was about the module.
lilygo no longer shows the m17 board. least i cant find it
I just looked at it was there... Maybe a regional thing?
M17 over HF possible maybe? 🤔
I don't know 🤷♂️

Was thinking the same with a 706

It does dishes too!
