that's a distinct possibility, but personally I think it's more than likely because of the style of singing he does. At least, what i'm 90% sure he does. The way he sings so raspy is probably the same way I'm learning how to sing hard rock, which is really hard to keep your voice under control and hitting the notes and everything perfectly. sorry for blabbing off my stupid 2 cents work, I just feel like talking..
May i just say, the screamo is actually kinda harmful to your vocals. he probably just got done with a concert and his voice hasnt recovered. Happens with artists a LOT :)

Might just be you. Heavy rock songs like Monster are hard to do well on acoustic, and singing such a song to acoustic is just as hard, if not harder.
