His spoiler filled comments following this "Thoughts" recording from the stream was terrific and I wish he'd release a "The Thoughts of Us 2 - Spoiler Edition" as I feel many would enjoy it. He expressed the sentiment that I had with a few exceptions. I appreciate his view and enjoyed the streams.

He was too kind to the game here, probably because the biggest offenders of this game are story-related which would involve spoilers. His spoilered thoughts are a lot more "honest," to put it mildly.

SubTonic not exactly the biggest problem that I’ve myself encountered with this game is that in order to explain what’s wrong about the game and it’s story you have to experience it one way or another. Generally with his thoughts videos he does everything in his power not to spoil so this I feel is the best route to go though.

Because on Twitch people who were there just watched him play the game, so talking about the story wasn't a big deal. Here, he doesn't want to spoil any of it.

He and his chat are one of the most respectful towards any game he play there on twitch so if he says that the game will be polarized/or not well received by everyone, pretty much confirms what Neil Druckmann said "this game will be divisive for players". Luckily I had a friend that shared me an account with the game pre-ordered, played day one, I like the game, but honestly can't recommended to everybody

When he said "low expectations" I couldn't help think "Yeah. If you think it's on par with the first one, you'll be disappointed. If not worse". That's just my opinion.

Their needs to be a spoiler version of the rest of his thoughts, because it made me think he completely thought differently than this non spoiler one.
don't bother it. you didn't realize that he's getting sony access? sure he's gonna made an excuse and cover the tricky part of the game that's why he make it non-spoiler in the first place. why i don't see other game he review under non-spoiler state? clearly something he's dislike in the game but he refuse to giving more context. go search anyone that have relation to sony, the review is hypocritical as hell.

This is why you don't do sequels to stories that never needed a continuation. This is why I was in favor of a new cast set in this world. By far the biggest disappointment for me in gaming in the last few years.

Actually very true. The Last of Us 1 is an amazing game, and ended in the best way possible. As far as I am concerned, the sequel does not exist.
I think they wanted to make things right by killing Joel. I just don't like that the entire game is based on revenge and we don't even get a revenge. He should've died in some other way
@@RevDany23 i mean she kinda does get revenge. abby suffers immense loss and has literally nothing left but a boat and an almost dead lev at the end of everything. by the point ellie has her face under the water there's just nothing left to accomplish. ellie was never going to recover from joel's death, and didn't even want to exist because she knew she shouldn't be alive at all. she was a tragic hero and by the end of the game she has nothing left. I actually quite liked the ending because it made sense with regards to what i think would actually happen in a situation like that. I get that it isn't for everyone, but I don't think it's objectively bad.
@@BlankCzech That isn't what would happen in a situation like that though, Ellie had spend every waking moment killing people to get to Abby, only to not kill her, and you're left as an unwilling participant in both Ellies murder rampage and Ellies sudden change of heart when she has the chance to kill the person, the person that was the reason for the entire murder rampage preceeding it, it's just forced, it doesn't feel organic and thus it is bad story telling, because it doesn't do what it's supposed to do which apparently is be thought provoking, but what it really did for a lot of people is they felt robbed especially fans of the first one.
As a long time lurker i imagine i know him well enough to read between the lines as well as his facial expressions and over all vibe. Didn't watch the whole playthrough, but i joined a few times on twitch (maybe 4h in total) and you can definitely see when he is enjoying himself, and when he isn't. To say it in jake baldinos' words (if that's how his name is written): take it with a grain of salt
One thing I noticed: his lack of attention looking at the camera. In every thoughts video he's done, he is looking RIGHT AT YOU. Talking to YOU. In this..? Constantly looking elsewhere, constantly just 'pushing through what he had to say.' He did not look happy, at all.
@@Dem1Kun Classic case of denial. He is recommending the game because he is forcing himself to do so. He knows this game should not have come to light. It's a shame that the devs did such an amazing job creating the environments and atmospheres but its overshadowed by a politically charged message that throws story telling to the wayside.
@@NumnutSify Lying not denial in terms of body language. I think he is just trying to be diplomatic which is very characteristic of him, but had a lot more to say which he wished he could have said on RUclips, but probably refrained from doing so due to drama.

I can understand why a lot of people are not happy with the direction it went, due to the highly controversial narrative, thematics, and order of the game. However, in my opinion this game did these aspects brilliantly, and was one of the best and most interesting gaming experiences I've ever had. There was not a single moment that I felt like the game dragged, as since all the emotions that were evoked while playing, kept me highly anticipating were the story would go next, and literally had me on the edge of my seat for almost the full 30 hours. In the first act we all feel the hate ellie is feeling, and experience the traumatic event with her. When the second act begins, we play as the character we hate the most, and we are challenged to see the events through different eyes. We want to go back to ellie, but are forced to play as abby, and slowly but surely are emphasizing with her and her group. In the third act it shows the gruesome reality of looking for vengeance at any cost, where ellie literally loses everything. And finally in the last flashback we come to realize that ellie was starting to forgive joel, something which she thought was never able to do, and therefore is also willing to let abby go.
The Flashbacks are the game I want to play, not whatever it was they put as the Main Story.
Yeah... I seriously dont get it. Neil Druckmann even said in a early interview back during development that the last of us is Ellie and Joel... part 2 is a such huge disservice to already established and loved characters. Im glad some people are enjoying the game, but part 2 is not for me and the direction they are heading with the game is not marketed to people like me, i am no longer a fan of the franchise as i am no longer the target audience.

In my opinion, they should have had two separate campaigns - one for Ellie, and one for Abby. Intertwining them just created so many pacing issues, and was incredibly infuriating. Overall, I like the story, but I hate the execution of it.
I would rather have played as Tommy
I would rather we played the whole game as Ellie with more weapons & more upgrades & more side characters.
and then maybe have Abby's story as DLC/expansion/spin off.

I appreciate how respectful you've been towards this game. I watched your thoughts with spoilers afterwards and I disagree that people interpreting the game differently is a problem. Alanah Pearce posted a video of 5 journalists with very different views discussing the game and that discussion got me thinking that people latching on to different aspects of the game and interpreting it differently is actually a good thing. Good entertainment should draw out different opinions and bring out discussions like her panel. Being divisive isn't always a bad thing, but more so when people are able to talk it out.
Pacing issues I'll give you, for some people anyway... for me not so much. I didn't mind the teases of Abby's story here and there at all. But I have what you could call a rainforest mind and jumping around like that isn't necessarily an issue for me... sometimes it still is but not in this case.
Watch his spoiler thoughts that he did right after this on his stream and he is a lot more scathing of the whole game. This is him being very diplomatic and calm.
I'm not looking at any of the comments as I don't trust people. I'm 7.5 hours in and I understand 0 of the hate for this game. The story has been great, the combat is a lot of fun, there has been interesting character development. I just don't get the hate. Perhaps expectations, kind of like you said, ruined this game for some people. I came in with no expectations. I loved TLoU and was just excited to see where they took TLoU2 without any expectation on direction. This game has been nothing shy of amazing and I expect it to land in my top 3 of the year. No, I haven't finished yet, but I just don't see how this game could possibly disappoint after what I have already experienced.

I played it and it's pretty and all but the way they did the story elements left a bad taste in my mouth unlike the first game. The original was dark but this one was dark just for the sake of it.
overuse of cheap shock value elements, that was only one of the vast problems this game had, but definetly one of the problems most people can agree with.
don't forget the studio forced the devs to look at traumatizing imagery as reference, so it was most definitely shock value for shock values sake, decided by some shithead in charge who doesn't consider the effect on their staff

It was fun to watch you play it Cohh, but I'm glad that I chose to do that instead of buying it.
Easy to follow plot : Girl loses father. Becomes a professional golfer by training all her life with a pro. Has a round of golf with the guy her dad met. Another girl sees her dad play golf with her and wants a match too. But the pro wont play golf with an amateur. So the amateur tries to play golf with all the pros friends. The pro retires after her adopted brother pressed her mommy button. Now the pro wants kids. So she goes out and adopts a few trauma victims. And teaches them a crash course in golf. The pro goes on tour after the amateur tries to play a round. The amateur finally decides to get serious with her game but the pro is tired . They play 1 last round. The amateur wins but misses her family and band camp. And minus a few mean people with skin conditions there is your whole game.
If you say you don't like the game they call you a biggot. Naughty Dog has a great shield from criticism
Literally no one is saying that. There are, however, a lot of people bashing the LGBT content of the game just out of bigotry. Which, you know, is wrong. And it actually just ends up making the criticism of the game seem less valid, sicce these people get grouped with the (majority) of people who dislike the game for actual valid reasons, such as the story

On the other hand, it doesnt mean i defend people who hate lgbt in games, I just think its an opinion and should be respected like one even if, to us, its a shitty opinion.
Second, I havent seen almost anyone bash the game just because it has lgbt in it, and the few I've seen have very varying reasons (political agenda, bad representation, hollow lgbt characters without any personality whatsoever, etc) so I think you're just dumping too many different opinions in one bag and calling them "unvalid" just because you think that was fine in the game.

I have seen quite a few videos her eon RUclips bitching about the LGBT elements of the game, mostly by Anti-SJW youtubers since that's pretty much all they do
@@swatbot2611 I think you're skipping too many steps over there, some people dont like lgbt in games because its usually poorly done, or related to political agendas (this is a decent example of such) that doesnt necessarily mean they hate lgbt irl or as a movement. Im part of lgbt myself (at least by definition) but I often fit into this category, westerns have a really twisted idea about what representation means or/and should be and often force it into hollow characters.
There is also people who actually hate lgbt, often out of ignorance or religions and such, but that might not necessarily mean they want them to die.
Then there is actually people who want others to die out of hate, these are an incredible few, and these are the real dicks who cant be defended.
Nowadays people just assume those three are the same kind of people and its not really good, specially because it makes the last one sound like a joke when its not. The first two are definetly opinions (wether we think its shitty or not its a different matter) the latter, ofc not. Wanting people to die is not a matter of opinion, but we're talking about games here, and I can assure you from everyone who dislikes lgbt in games almost nobody actually wants anyone to die.
And from everyone who dislikes this game only a few do so because of the lgbt.
Dont tell people to play a game with low expectations. People pay their hard earned cash on these games, they dont get it for free.
And Last of Us was a amazing game, so of course people will expect a lot from a sequel. If the developers didnt think they could reach the expectations created by their first game, they shouldnt have made a sequel to begin with.
Did you enjoy the games story
I've enjoyed the game solely based on the story. The gameplay isn't for me (never finished part 1 myself, just watched videos of it), but the story was superb in my eyes. I even liked the pacing.

After bringing Ellie to the point of confrontation with Abby and making her "motivations" clear (never seen someone broken by hate that much), they build up the "antagonist". I think gamers just aren't used to this kind of pace, which is quite normal in books or (older) movies. And maybe that's the problem. This game is played in four acts (the beginning around the village, Ellies side of the story, Abbys side, the end). Sure you could've interwoven Ellies and Abbys stories, but for me this solution worked much better.
Calling this a simple revenge story makes me sad. There so much development in characters and relationships that there is nothing you could call simple left. They gave every character a place in the story, as unlucky as it might've been, and almost every character mattered on the outcome.

The fact that no one wanted to provide spoilers allowed for them to mislead their potential clients IMO. No one mentions that for half the game you have to play as a new character who does despicable things. They knew this would be off-putting and purposefully hid this fact. They did this under the auspices of trying to hide the big reveal, but we all know the real reason. They knew many would hate it. I don't want to watch Icepick win, I want to watch Magnum.
They didn't hid it cuz many people would be upset, even Neil said not everyone is gonna like the story.

Others that are happy to have a character they liked get their head bashed in is of course fine. But for me, I don't like it so I chose not to support it. I wonder what would happen if in the next Tomb Raider she got killed with a golf club? Would people be saying what a bold and fantastic subversion that is?
They tried to make "A Song of Ice and Fire" and all we got was "Game of Thrones" season 8.
Just binge watched this entire playthrough and wanted to say thanks Coh for keeping me entertained for so many hours. I'd seen quite a lot of the online murmuring but having seen the story from beginning to end I honestly enjoyed it. Can't really see what all the furore is about but then maybe that's because I'm not bonded to the characters from playing TLOU 1. Who knows. Anyway thanks again for the playthrough.

a lot of people dont seem to understand that he is talking about the game itself, the video game aspect, the gameplay, not necessarily the story.. so maybe story aside, everything else seemed good,
They must have changed the script writer between both the games which is an odd decision, and if they didn't they need to be fired, because it's clear that they've let their personal feelings and inclinations bleed over into their professional work. Unacceptable.

From what I understand it's been 7yrs since LOU, and in that time parts of the team have moved on, it was mostly a different team and writers? It was never going to be any semblance of a LOU purely because different people have different ideas.
@@TheQeltar Not at all weird, you are just very naïve. Example: Subnautica doesn't have any guns in it per-se, because the director is anti gun completely. There are many many others but that's just one that I pulled from memory.

I enjoyed watching ppl play. I might play it one day. I thought the controversial story decisions were ok, but the way it was executed was very poor at times. Enjoyed the story overall tho. The immersive environments are definitely a 10/10 for me.
Honestly "go in with as few expectations as possible" makes it sound really bad and this is cohh we are talking about.

It's not bad, it's just not what people expected. I will echo the "go in with an open mind" mantra. They want to tell you a story, let them and judge it after it is completed
It doesn't necessarily mean that the game is just bad. As he said, unfortunately with the critical success of the first game, this sequel is not for everyone. There are people who hate it, there are people who love it, and a lot others who just dissatisfied with certain parts of it. Because of how polarizing it is, I think he chose this way of sharing his own thoughts on the game for anyone who haven't watched or played it yet so that people will judge it based on their own experience whether from watching it or playing it themselves.
They should have color-coded the button prompts that force you to move on, I’ve missed a safe and a few rooms because i went the right way first.
Well, I really enjoyed the game and the story, though it did not have this excellent 10/10 vibe as the first game.
Everyone complains about their playthrough, but they all seem to get the bad ending.
If you just let Abby die for being a Trash Monster, when you first play as her (because they want to Lure some of your friends out of the city for some violence) then everything is great.
Very short game though.
Not gonna lie, literally the first thing I did as Abby was jump off the cliff at the start and went (there, fixed that for you, naughty dog) in my head.

Something that would have made the game better. Switch Tommy and Joel’s roles in the game. And have Joel die saving Ellie
The best idea I've heard was Ellie dying, and Joel being the main character. I freaking LOVE Ellie, so that would've made for one hell of a revenge story... Well, with a different ending as well of course.
Some spoilers:
Even if you accept everything that happens in the story, the ending is so bad. It leaves you with so many unanswered questions.
- Did Ellie forgive Joel in the end?
- What happened to Dina and the baby?
- Did Ellie go to find Dina or did she decide to tour America?
- Will Tommy be able to let go of the hate?
- Was Abby talking to real Fireflies or was it a trap all along?
And probably many more. But all in all I don't think people liked the story enough to even ask any questions.
Владимир Христов the real answer is potentially this, they made this game just to build up a new cast, and left so many plot holes so they can start working on a 3rd installment.
To answer that first question, she realized that if she was willing to forgive Joel for the awful thing he did, that she should let go of her hatred and let Abby live. Doing anything less would have been a dishonor to what Joel wanted her to be.
Abby was talking to the Fireflies. After you finish the game the title screen changes to Catalina island. Abby and Lev made it to the Fireflies
I imagine DLC will go into that

If only people were rational thinkers, but thats too much to ask isnt it? no, they didnt get the game they want, so they stomped their feet, throw a hissy fit, and review bombed a otherwise pretty good game, more than 20k people review bombed this game, can u believe it? its honestly chilling to think how ignorant and stupid people can be, and we wonder why 2020 is such a nightmare of a year, as if we deserve anything else.
That's the thing right, some get the game they want but most never get the game THEY want, there are millions of gamers who'd want the story to be the story they'd enjoy or a certain type of game mechanic they want etc. I've said it with games, movies and TV shows...a work is someones vision/idea and we are just along to experience it, not expect them to create something perfect for each individual one of us.
Personally, though the game pacing felt slow at times and I got confused with where the story was heading, once I unscrambled it I could see the story and it made more sense. It just took me till after the game which dulled the experience when I should have been 'getting it' while playing.

Cohh, are you going to play Kenshi again? I really like your ninja robot character. Also, did you know about the peeler machine, and upgrading your scouts with scout legs?
What they should have done is made this game completely about Abby and her father during the events of LoU 1 in parallel with what Joel and El were doing. Developing her relationship with her father leading up to the same climax as the first game. We would have a developed relationship with this new character and have a reason to sympathize with her. Then a few years down the line we would have gotten a third game, this game, where we can pick between to story lines. You can either choose to be Abby or you can choose to be Elly. It would be completely different storys that only intersect at like 3 or 4 points in hopefully a more tasteful way then this game did. Also, dont fucking kill Joel at the beginning make his death happen at the climax of both storylines to then drive the story towards a final confrontation. And also have different endings based on which character you are playing as. Also, they should have never had the Scars in the game. This should have been a conflict between Jackson and the WLF. The only function the Scars had in the game was to try and humanize Abby who by the point we got to see any of her being kinda okay we already fucking hated her too much so they were an absolute waste in this game. Just my two cents right off the dome. Feel free to add or correct anything that you think may have made this game better!
Finished the game last night and absolutely loved it, but I can also see why others may be unhappy with where the story goes.
I agree with Cohh that its not for everyone but people who can have an open mind and keep playing the ups and downs are in for one hell of a ride.

If the first game didn't exist, this would be an above decent game. A solid 8/10.
But it's the expectations from the first game about delivery and how misused the characters from the first game are, that just disappoint the fans... And drags the score down to 6/10 for me.
I can see that, yeah. For me it would still be around a 7/10 though, the story just felt like a teen drama movie to me, especially the first half.

I was not affected by the leaks and disregarded what anyone thought about the game (be it ytuber or pro reviewer) and I disliked the start, hated what !!!!SPOILERS!!!! Happened to Joel, and immediately after predicted the ending, and hated most of the rest of the game. The story is absolutely ABYSMAL imo.
I give this game as it is a 6/10. 10/10 for everything else (music,animations,voice acting,etc...), and a 1/10 for story (purely for a few awesome scenes).
This, for me, is the BIGGEST disappointment this generation.

Out of curiosity, because you said the music is 10/10 - Although the background music in gameplay is great, one thing that disturbed me was the lack of music in cutscenes. In TLOUS1 every emotional scene had an iconic music everyone would recognize. In TLOUS2 I noticed even the most 'powerful' scenes just didn't have anything beyond 'background noise'... I believe it really impacted my ability to get emotional at many scenes. Didn't you find this a problem?

And 100% yes on the music, it's just what was there, was incredible. Though I didn't get emotional EVER in the game, Joel's "scene" was looming over my head during all those scenes, and the only moments I really noticed I "tensed up" was when I thought Dina was basically gonna die (you know the scene I mean) and tommy's "eye opening" moment... And was relieved they both lived. The scene in the museum is flawless as well, aside from what I mentioned before (Joel's death looming over my head)
I enjoyed the game heavily and I can say I just think some of the story decisions could’ve been better but overall I do like the game hope we make it to a part 3 but with the way people are being it might not happen

Although i understand wanting to be neutral in this “battle”. But if you have any love for the first game and the masterful story and character development it brought, this should feel like a giant middle finger.
Not to mention the 10/10 reviews coupled with their tomfoolery after the leaks, of them striking any and all youtubers who so much as mentioned TLOU2, as well as the top ratings of the game months before the game was even out.
All this coupled together should be a giant red flag to stay away from this if you have any self respect.

This is mostly a (spoiler-free) answer to the spoilery comment that Cohh released on Twitch: I finished the game this morning and I loved it. For me the pacing felt great: I enjoy the switch between high action and exploration segments, it kept me playing for hours on end, without any fatigue. The second part of the game threw me off at first, but in the end I really enjoyed it (not going into to much detail here because spoilers, obviously). To me the story was never the strong point of TLOU, it was always the atmosphere and the character interactions, with each other and the world. The atmosphere in this game is phenomenal - if you play this on your own and are not constantly interupted by Twich schenanigans. I liked the presentation for most of the characters, with one noteable exception: I could have done with less swearing on Ellie's part. If you are paying attention, there is a level of detail to the world and characters, that has never been achieved in any video game before. At one point I killed the dog of an NPC and they called out "No! Bear...", and in another part of the game you actually get to meet the dog named "Bear". It's actually absurd.
I wholeheartedly disagree with the notion that the story is bad, because people interpret it in different ways. I actually think this is a good thing, as it gives people something to talk about and an opportunity to learn something from each other. For the same reason, I also disagree that any story must meet prior expectations of "the majority of people". On the subject of expectations: Go back and watch the first trailer, that was released three years ago, the one in which Ellie plays the guitar. If you did watch that trailer and still have misaligned expectations, the fault is not Neil Druckmann's, Naughty Dog's or Sony's - it is yours alone. And lastly, to the people that get all worked up over the event that takes place at the relative beginning: People already speculated about that happening, shortly after the aforementioned trailer was released, it was even speculated that this event would happen before the start of TLOU2. So.. maybe get your expectations checked?

The game have (imo) major problems in the narrative, pacing and (and most important) promises and payoffs, specially in the trailers were they set up the game before hand. If they only fixed those promises, the payoffs would've been better and not so polarizing

What about storyline and characters? I didn’t really get any clarity on that, the rest was quite generic for a team that brought us the uncharted series I didn’t see last of us advancing too far away from that series as in mechanics, graphics, scenery etc.... would like to hear your views on that

People who have not played the first part really loved this game... couple of my friends who have not played the first part told me that they really enjoyed this game.....but others are not satisfied.... including myself...

I think I need to leave a dislike on this video just based on the additional 13 minutes I watched on Twitch due to the top comments(Thanks Major Kryme, CG and Mip Mup). This current YT video is not an accurate depiction of how you felt about the game, it is misleading to be completely frank.
Personally, I'm buying TLOU 1 and 2 to support Naughty Dog as they have created 2 very beautiful and solidly coded games that I've had the pleasure of seeing the Story through to its current conclusion. I just don't think putting this video out on YT as I watched it today is doing either you or them justice by masking the true feelings that come out from the Twitch clip totaling another 13 minutes.

It is a HORRIBLE sequel. They could have done so much better very easily, but chose to go down the path of generic revenge story and shock.
If they would've taken the Abby part and sell it as a fat DLC, i bet everyone would've been fine.... (not me tough, I really liked the game and I am glad they did not split the game.)

I had some issues with the pacing and some of the heavyhanded story bits. But at the and of the day i think it is a great game.
Its way better than alot of games that came out recently.. I hope this helps with people making the decision to buy. I really enjoyed part 2 kinda more than part 1. I hated what happened to joel and the ending but I hated the first game ending as well both were blah now what? Type endings. Other than that the rest of part 2 was amazing dina and the other ai partners really helped cause ammo is very scarce in this game which I really like too. It wasn't easy to get ammo had to rely on stealth kills a lot. The first game was amazing beat it 10 times but the story was a little blah. Sorry but not into raising children on a game thats whats real life is for. You still get young ellie personality in flashbacks and older depressed mad at the world personality she grew into. Ashley Johnson did a wonderful job. The melee was amazing the graphics were amazing. The story hit and missed. Loved the flashbacks. Loved dina, hated the lack of decision making on ellie besides revenge, revenge, revenge. Hated abby story and the ending, overall it was a alright story tho. I give the game a solid 8.5 maybe even a 9. Not a 10 tho

Those were very diplomatic thoughts. It feels like he doesn't believe what he is saying. I am not sure but it feels like he is resistant to what he is saying. If you compare with pathfinder, where he applauses at the end of the game and then speaks about it more affirmative. There I believe him, here is something different. I know he is not trying to sell it to me, but just expresses his thoughts and that is great. However, still, this one feels like he didn't say what he wanted to say. I am definitely not playing TLOU2, because I want to relate to the characters and it seems there is no one to relate to.

If I consider it as a standalone game without me absolutely fanboying the first game. It was pretty alright. Gameplay was fun, mostly. We all know which 2/5 of the game we didn't like to play. But besides that, gameplay was fun, combat, controls, scenery etc. Everyting was enjoyable.
But in spite of all these positives, I am a huge fanboy of the first game so I finished the game with a really bad aftertaste in my mouth. I loved the synergy between Joel and Ellie because of their personalities, but this game just threw them out of the window. I'm really surprised they had to postpone the release because of the story. The story is the worst aspect in this game.

thought it was awesome story and was done differently from most games nowadays, sadly their is a lot of negative input on many outlets, mechanics were great and for ps4 it looked awesome. Can't wait for a third one.

Anyone knowing him at all can see he did not like the game. The energy he gives off, the body language, the "evasive review" ,etc. He tries so hard to not say it but it is clear as day.
