How to remove a cam lock (C shaped) from Ikea furniture

  • Опубликовано: 17 окт 2024
  • Tools: screwer, sharp nose pliers.
    NOTE: For most of the time, you don't need to remove it. Just loosen the cam so you can pull the connecting bolt out.
    Thanks to Chao, who was hurt by a falling screwer for taking this video.

    Also guys. IT IS NOT ALWAYS NECESSARY TO REMOVE THEM. I just dismantled a wardrobe and you can Loosen them and then just pull the sections apart. Easier than removing each cam and quicker too xxx

      It’s a good point. This also ensures that no part will be missing when you reassemble the structure.

    There is a much easier way. TRUST me. 1) First, turn your cam lock "counter clock wise" until it stops against the arrow direction. 2) Second important, get a Phillips head screw, and screw a nail "clock wise" inside the cam lock. 3) Third use your pliers to pull against the screw that you put inside the cam lock to yank it out. 10 seconds
    * Note: Be Careful not to hurt your hands when yanking pulling the cam lock out.

In a sense that, I had to go many hurdles in attempting to remove the screws and my every effort was futile. Again, thanks for demonstrating the trick and your short video was the first time that catches my eye!

    This was the best way to get the cam out and it only took about 10 minutes for me to take off the top and bottom of my Alex unit and switch them. Much better solution than the suggestion to put a screw in it to pull it out; that would ruin the cam and you'd have to run out to get another one

  • @blturn
    @blturn 4 года назад +6

    If you can find out the name to your furniture, you can usually find a PDF of the instructions for free.
    Literally all you really need to do is to loosen every Cam Screw that is on a similar surface or direction (loosen by looking at that tiny arrow usually being the opposite way of where it’s tightened.)
    Literally all I did was loosen the Cam Screws that were in similar directions on the piece of wood and the piece practically slid apart with ease.
    You will need pliers to remove the actual cam screw but if you want to just take apart your furniture then this should suffice.

      Not any special type. Just sharp enough so the nose can be inserted in order to apply force to pull it out.
