This video helped me a lot. Different make and model but the mechanism was similar. Our drill was stuck in hammer mode. Old drill used only for wood drilling in a stand. So I put it in drill mode when disasambled. Thanks.
Finally I was able to work on my Makita and I can confirm that the issue was the same and took me some time to get that bearing ball out but eventually W40 in it solve the issue. Thanks again for the video.

Can you open switch and show how what it looks inside?
Its a good plan to re-grease it once opened. Grease the helical gears, shaft into the hammer mechanism and hammer rack.
I have same model, but recently got flooded/sinking in the water. It can be save or not?
I would disassemble the tool and clear out the water and debris. Then you can see if corrosion has occured
