My Dad's ancestors came from Abingdon (sheep/wool farmers) back in the mid 1600's came over to the Colonies (USA). Thanks for covering it! (Love Radiohead)
I've parked in that same spot, moored many a boat and drunk many pints in that pub on the bridge. Love Abingdon. That whole area is lovely to explore. I also subscribe to The Bald Explorer, Richard Vobes. Interesting, and pleasant channel. Watching The Vobes Show now. Enjoy!
Looked like a nice spot to park up in. I don’t know how Abingdon deserves to be called the 13th worst town in England. It looks all right to me with some interesting sights to see. I’m still enjoying seeing towns in England, I have never yet visited. Not that I am biased, but no town in England will beat some of our towns in Scotland. It would be great if you did a best and worst towns tour in Scotland. Maybe you already have that in your plans, it would be very interesting for me and fellow Scots who follow your channel.
That's because it isn't one of the worst towns in England. I've lived in Abingdon all my life (56 years) and I can assure you there are many worse places in England than Abingdon.
I live in Abingdon and whilst it's not the worst, the charm that you initially feel wears off really quick. They went to literally the nicest areas of town, Nag's Head for instance is the nicest pub (and most expensive) in town. Most of the town is run down and there's just a lot of people loitering. It's extremely boring with basically nothing to do, there's just a mix of useless shops, and traffic is horrific, like some of the worst I've experienced, especially for a small town. During rush hour it can often take 45 minutes to just get through it out of town. Overall it's got a couple of places that are ok, they passed Nag's Head, Broad Face, and Missing Bean which are pretty much the best places in town, outside of that it's basically Gregg's and Costa
You were just about to walk past where I live, then you turned off last second for the Abbey Gardens. As you walked in you weren't sure what the building was that has scaffolding around it, it used to be used by the Abingdon Town Council for offices. It's being refurbished for flats at present as I understand it.
Cough....I live in Abingdon! Cannot believe it's on that list. And Mr Mayhew-Archer was my husband's form and humanities teacher. Shame you didn't get to see the Long Gallery and the Unicorn Theatre which were part of the Abbey's buildings. And it ought to be in Berkshire....but it's another story...

We have lots of history though ref the Saxon King etc Oh & the longest pier in the world! Hurry on down we are soon to be given City Status!…Phah lol 🤔

Was the county town of Berkshire
You missed the best part. The surviving abbey buildings are found at the end of Checker Walk. That's also where the mill was on the mill stream.

England has to be very beautiful if that was one of the worst places ;-) Don't like such lists ... it's too subjective
:-)
