EAA members can access the July 1982 archive issue of Sport Aviation which features an article about this plane, written by Dr. Seeley.

It was fun to see everything that has been done to it. Sure wish my E could make numbers close to that!

Wish we had cowling options that don’t cost 20k! On a good day my C will cruise at 180mph using 50% more fuel than the CAFE.

Wonder what the takeoff roll is with a fixed pitch prop that still allows you to do 170 kts is?...I'm betting that airplane is pretty light too, though. I've always liked Mooneys since I did my commercial in N201DD...what an efficient plane indeed...cool stuff, thanks for sharing 😁👍

The CAFE is still variable pitch though it hides it well. Two blades for a few extra knots but loses some takeoff and climb performance. I tried keeping up with him on our way to Sunriver for the ‘20 West Coast Mooney fly in, I gave up pretty quick.

I love the smile, it looks like a happy plane. I think I missed why it's called a CAFE.

Comparative Aircraft Flight Efficiency, I think we missed putting that in the video...

Music too loud in the first few minutes. Makes it hard to hear what you’re saying. Excellent information. Thanks.

My E would do 159 knots but I could never get 160! All on 10 gph.

Crazy to think the CAFE will exceed Vne in level flight. I can get 157-159 in my C but that is pushing it at 13-14 gph.

If you've got a good drawing and/or are located near KLS, I can probably cut out a panel for you. Send an email to hair_helmet@yahoo.com

This is the airplane Mooney should have brought back. Not a 1 million dollar aircraft that 99.5 can't afford. Bring back the M20C with Garmin's 275's, GNX375, 255A for under 250 grand.

I totally agree. Two models would have kept the company going, a 201 with a diesel, and a simple C with a Johnson bar. An aerobatic 3rd model maybe…
