I have the same grill! I love it! I’ve got a review and few videos cooking on it. It is a good deal. Not a Weber but nice. I absolutely love the CI grate too. Get a hand held whisk broom from the dollar sore and it will sweep the ashes very well. A Dutch Oven lid lifter does well lifting the hot grate.
Is it a ceramic coated cast iron grill grate?
long handled paint brush to clean ashes works good and wont damage the coating of the kettle also not sure if that temp gauge is accurate that thing should have been reading closer to 500 degrease after 10 to 15 minutes. Why wouldn't they make that heavy assed grate in two pieces like an 80/20 split so all you would have to remove is the smaller grate to add more coals or wood chunks, or better still hinge it somehow .... just sain
How do you remove that heavy grate when you want to add more charcoal when the thing is piping hot? Weber all the way!
You have a valid point. I have a fireplace poker with a small hook on the end that is perfect for lifting the grate and adding charcoal, but I can see how for most it would be a problem. Thanks for stopping by!
Great grill and nice and sturdy. One fail on this grill is that there is a lifter needed to lift the lid annnndddd even the instructions say to use a 'lifter' to add coals (or re position the coals) but "not supplied" . Find or make a lifter for the rather heavy grill and you're in heaven! This is a great grill and "Smo'King BBQ" does a great job on showing what it can do. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the comments, I agree. I use a poker from my fireplace that has a hook on the side to move the grate, along with some BBQ Gloves. A bit of a pain, but I do like the cast iron grate. Thanks for watching!
You think the Weber bottom flange seal thingy will fit on this one?
I am not sure, as I don't know exactly how that thing attaches to the kettle. It might, the size of the kettle is the same.
Listening to Jack Scalfini was your first mistake. The second was buying the MM grill then buying weber products and stating you were going to buy a weber grate as well. You clearly shouldve forked over for the weber in the first place.
Great video!
Doesn’t make sense to “season” a coated surface. Just wipe it clean. I’m buying one tho. I like!
I was just following the instructions, and they said you should season the inside of the grill, so that is what I did. Thanks for watching!
Smo'King BBQ Tips & Recipes i knew you were. Good video my man. Is the grate coated with ceramic?
Not sure. All is says is that it is a Heavy Duty Cast Iron Cross Hatch Cooking Grate. So I am not certain whether it is coated with ceramic or not.
Great review. I'm thinking of buying it this weekend since Sam's has it online for $79! I'm getting the hinged Weber grates and charcoal trays too. How is it holding up so far, do you still like it?
I have used it many times, including my latest video. It is holding up fine, and it is quite a deal for $79. I would recommend it at that price for sure. Thanks for stopping by and watching!
brv002 I did this last week and just used the hinged grate yesterday. This is a good way to go in my opinion.
Nice video, it helped me out to decide purchasing this grill down here in sunny Cancun... regards!
Glad it was helpful, enjoy your new grill.
atleast you didn't try to kick it over lol !
I picked this one up today at Sams Club for only $69 on sale currently so go get one! That’s $30 off.
Yea, I noticed they were on sale at my Sams Club for that price as well. Great deal! Thanks for stopping by!
Jack Snow review was a joke and wouldn’t be surprised if he was paid or had the kettle donated to him for free. ! He never opened the bottom vents on the Weber and that’s why it wouldn’t get over 200 degrees .
I have to admit I found that part of the review a bit strange as well. Weber is the standard to which all kettle grills are judged by, so stating he was unable to get it hotter seems almost impossible. I also have no problem if he got the grill for free, as long as he says he did, and as long as he gives up his honest opinion, not one that isn't truthful.
I liked his channel until that. I’m not a Weber freak and like the MM for the money. His review was very dishonest and over the top imo. Just subbed man and keep the vids coming.
Jack has a nasty habit of not reading the instructions and the wondering what went wrong.
The meats look like they have already been cooked. Isn't it supposed to be RED???
The meat was fully cooked via sous vide. I just used the grill to do a hot sear on both sides to add a nice crust. Check out my sous vide videos to learn more, and thanks for watching! ruclips.net/p/PLeQ8n91GzDlpUu-44skEz2W7ubvEQv6bL
I would have thought the seasoning would be for the cast iron cooking surface.
Personally I would have hit that with some oil in the process.
Regardless, nice grill, and the food looked excellent!
He totally misread about seasoning the grill. You are correct, season the cooking grate, not the kettle!
I was wondering about this as well. The instructions in the manual are horrible. They say to season the inside surfaces of the grill. Not sure it makes sense to season the inside of the kettle itself as it is already coated. I think the cast iron grates do need to be seasoned as I was already getting light rust after a couple of days.
I guarantee that grill doesn’t have a 10 warranty like the weber
try the product before you let your ass talk
