On straight hair you always gotta debulk first, go in with a 4 guard and build the shape you want before you start fading. It makes everything so much easier and more organized.

It’s all in the sectioning. Clean sections will give you clean results. Your elevation in the back was all over the place. I wish you could have had the chance to cross check. Curly hair is forgiving but can’t hide everything. Bring that guy back in and make sure he’s balanced especially from the top to the back he’s going to be disconnected and have floppy corners. And be super heavy at the fringe because the elevation was at zero.
But like you said if he was putting the pressure for you to finish the end result is on him. If a client is too impatient to sit through the service it puts unnecessary stress on the stylist and that can lead to mistakes. It’s like they say you can choose two of the three options good, fast, or cheap.
Good & fast = not cheap.
Fast & cheap= not good.
Cheap & good= not fast.
Looks like he choose option number 2. But look the only way to get better is to keep practicing bring him back in and refine his cut he’s a walking representation of your work.
