I plant. I tried to break the habit until I realized trying to break the habit caused my scores to go downhill, and I had a coach tell me that planting is not a problem. I don't worry about it now. It does not affect my game in a negative way.
Yeah, it's really not a big deal. I do it when I move up and throw slow. Don't prefer the feel of it over sliding, but can't say there's any issue with it in terms of performance either.
I stopped sliding because each bowling alley has different approaches. Some slippery some sticky. So I decided to get out of sliding so that I can keep the approach the same and timing the same.
5:58 I switched to planting because it’s one less adjustment to make in my game. I had a very good and consistent slide, but if the lanes are slightly off my throw gets out of wack for 3 frames until I get that adjusted properly. I switched last December and my body is doing great and I haven’t had any approach issues since!
I'm a one handed no thumb bowler, but I'm 6'4 with a very high backswing. Looks like a thumb bowler with 2 handed footwork. Trying to find the best way to repeat shots as a bigger guy. Any tips? Will send a video or come out to West PAC to show you one day when I can lol
Next time you do a video of Mark Baker answering questions, include this one. “My high school bowling coach has been telling me and the entire team to lift with your fingers and that’s where you get rev rate, but the sport has changed over the years but he’s telling me to lift with my fingers, and now I got into a really bad habit of hitting up on the ball, what should I do?”
I’m two handed Please use conventional grips like me and throw from pinky and ring finger sometimes It makes the ball go longer and snap later I have 236 average over 21 games throwing it out of the pinky, with 3 games 801 regular fingers Try it and it works
One handed, planter bowlier here, what sort of release exercises would you recommend to keep/get my hand/fingers "under the equater" of the ball to help get my ball to roll more. (i know how you feel about "drills" haha.) I find my wrist breaking and my hand coming around the side more and not so much up the back of the ball. Would lowering my ball weight help my wrist stay "cupped" during my down swing.
Mark you mentioned the jigsaw formula of putting the the frame together first before the middle being the last part of the puzzle which in bowling is power, how do you teach your students to add more revs and power once they have the other things in place?
Question for Coach Mark What advice would you give for a right handed two finger back up bowler. Also the two fingers (my middle and ring finger) the middle one always seems to be sore or hurts after I throw a bowling ball, is that due to bad release?
Hi coach Baker, this is Fixer from Taiwan. Thank you for share the tips all the time. Could u help my problem, plz? I've been bowling for a decade but the oil track on the ball always far away from my middle finger and thumb hole. What should I do to fix my problem?
I will check out the senior section I'm 60 and have been back into bowling for almost 7 years since my retirement. My question is I have problems at times with going cross lanes 7 or 10 pins . Speed isn't a issue I still have a ball speed on the lane tracker of upwards of 18+ for 10 pins I use a old red hammer, going the other way it's what ever I'm using at the time. Is it a line up issue? 10s I blade towards it line up about 30 aim point right side of center arrow, 7s about 10 aim point second arrow. Right handed
Question for Mark...I bought Mark's Game Changed for 2 handers and have been trying to improve my timing when I practice. But when I bowl for score, should I concentrate on my footwork or arm swing during my approach? Does the footwork drive the swing or the swing drives the footwork?
any tips for getting no rotation and/or less revs on the ball as a 2 hander? my spare shooting is okay, but can suffer when the mids start getting torched since i use a white mix.
So I have an issue with my second step being a cross over step. I saw that mark says cross over steps aren’t needed, since that video I have tried to stop, is there a way that I can best stop a cross over step?
Never really understood the yoyo release. How do go from shaking hands with the lane to that? I usually go no thumb but I want to switch to traditional to be more accurate and have more control. Only problem is my rev rate isn’t nearly as high as no thumb.
Hi coach, I am 68 years old and got back to bowling after 20+ years. I am a mess, my mark is on the right side but my ball keeps going left, I am missing sometimes by 5/6 boards. Not consistent in pocket. I also for some reason twisted my middle finger and it's painful to hold ball. 1-How can I improve my accuracy 2- What is first thing I can work on to at least be competitive. I know age is factor but I know I can make better shots. Thank you
Question: Im wanting to make my back swing longer/higher (it stop at about 4 o clock) I want it at 3 o clock or higher. It seems like it wont go higher bc of something Im doing in my approach thats causing it. Any ideas of things I should be looking out for?
9:31 I hope you can really answer this question, I am a 2 handed bowler but im having a really hard time buying the right ball because my PAP is missing, and its because my oil track is on the left side of the pin (Im right handed) and they say that its not right. If you can see this and curious about my release I hope i can contact you to help me fix this problem, I really want and determined to improve. Thank you.
Quick answer without seeing you is keep your chin up when you release. Keeping your chin up will help keep your shoulder from dipping down. Try it first.
People say grips are “personal feel” but how do you even find out what feels good without some kind of guidance from a PSO? Some people dig past their first knuckle but I wouldn’t even know how to release the ball like that without help.
Does Coach Baker think that there could be a reason that I seem to bowling considerably better on sport shots and tournaments as opposed to regular league? I feel like my league even where most other bowlers have higher averages, somewhat like tournaments, i seem to consistently put up solid scores. Then on a wednesday night mixer league i cant seem to even consistently break 600 anymore and i used to average in the 220's just a couple seasons ago.
Here is a question. Because this just drives me crazy. I hit the pocket... ten pin. Ok. No adjust just yet. Hit the pocket .. ten pin again. I adjust by moving back just a hair. Hit pocket.. crush ten pin.. leave seven pin. No adjust. Hit pocket crush ten pin, leave seven pin. Adjust again a little right. Hit pocket.. leave ten pin again. No adjust.. hit pocket leave ten pin again. Adjust a hair left. Hit pocket crush ten pin.. leave seven pin.. So my question.. obvious.. how can I adjust to hit ten pin and seven pin. Drives me crazy.
@@N8Som Oh, I forgot to mention that part. I do ball change. Maybe my balls are not enough change between them though. Effect, to Vibe or Low flare. Or from Vibe to Low flare.
He’s so good 😮💨🔥🔥🔥 drop your broom sticks for coach if you love this content!! 🧹🧹🧹

Love when these vids with Mark pop up. I always learn something new, super helpful as someone just getting back into bowling.
We appreciate you!!
This channel is 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Mark always drops knowledge

I can relate to the double dribble 2 handed….i do that 1 handed on my spares most times. I tense up and dump it into the ground and miss left
Great video again, keep them coming 👍

Damn, sorry to hear that lol. I felt annoyed that was still a conversation when I was still in high school over 10 years ago.

🐐
I have a question
If you are two handed with no physical game tweaks for any condition
What are a few creative options ?
Best "blue print" 2 hander to watch: Kyle Troup. Notice there is no "gallop" step in his foot work.

Have a quiestiin... what does it mean when people release across thier body? Does that do anything, or is it just thier release. Thank you
Hi, do you have any advice for bowlers with flat feet? Is there a proper type of shoe for us? Or do i have to plant instead of sliding?
So I have an issue with my second step being a cross over step. I saw that mark says cross over steps aren’t needed, since that video I have tried to stop, is there a way that I can best stop a cross over step?
Did the videos for the seniors get taken down? Not seeing it on the site. Would love to show it to my parents.

My elbow flares out a little bit. I’ve done two Baker/Barnes camps but no luck
Hellow iv been bowling for 6 months and I average 193 to 205 what should I do to get ahead of the game and not hit that first wall

I am using 14 lbs. i want to use 13 lbs. does 13 lb ball decrease strike percentage?
Light licks don’t carry as well, not any difference with pocket hits
Ask Mark what his thoughts on how string pins will affect pro bowling?
Ever play east of the Mississippi
Occasionally we are in Ohio or Florida or Tennessee
I used to get close to the foul like now I can't get up there so my timing is off I'm 2 to 3 feet away and that's bad... I know I know
