My heartfelt congratulations on crossing the pond Skua crew😃! I have watched every episode right since you first began and truly feel my life has been enriched by watching your journey. Thank you both. Please may I ask that you look back at this video some years on (especially if things get tough) to see the elation on your faces as you walk on land in the Caribbean for the first time? You both look so ALIVE and full of wonder! May that feeling visit you again and again as your travels take you further and further around our crazy beautiful world. Stay safe, FW&FS👍🏻👍🏻🏝⛵️

Don’t underestimate your achievement in crossing the Atlantic - its amazing! You did it in a boat you rebuilt yourself, you did it by building your skills months and years before, you did it in real style! You did it as much in Kittywake as you did in Skua. I said it before and I will say it again - you guys are amazing! So well done and drink a beer in the Caribbean on me! :-))

Old sailors used to get land sick when they first landed on terra firma. What an achievement guys.
I’m told by friends who subsequently sailed north towards Florida, that the Gulf Stream runs north at a good 6 knots.
Happy days. Fair winds tides and currents.

What a roller coaster ride of emotions you must have had to come to terms with. Very sorry to hear of your hometown, E. At this point you are both safe, and were blessed to find a country that would allow you to enter. Time to take several deep breaths, and move forward, but make sure you pat each other on the back for that crossing...a huge accomplishment.
And go do what you went to the Caribbean to do in the first place as best you can.

I recall entering Nassau ( Bahamas ) Harbor - after a crossing from Florida in a 48 foot ketch - years back. Upon reaching the first western breakwater I stepped out of the house and fired the signal cannon ( 12 gauge shotgun ) while the crew danced a jig on the fore deck ( tradition to alert the Harbormaster ). I had no yellow quarantine flag to raise but I had a pair of bright yellow shorts which I promptly ran up the starboard signal lanyard. Customs and Immigration went smoothly and the uniformed official said, while shuffling papers with a sideways smile , " You can pull down your shorts now," which I did. ( south Florida ) .

Well done! For once the 'Q' flag really was a quarantine flag - glad the helpful officials dealt with you so fairly (I'm sure you realise this by now, but SVG is considered to be part of the hurricane belt).

Thanks. Yes, we left after Gonzalo (it was a bit of a scare!) and we're now quarantining in Grenada on the boat :)

Yes, thankfully they're all well. Thanks for your concern.

The island you are in is called Bequia and is pronounced both BECK WAY and BECK WEE but never BECK WAY AH !. If you ignore the "a" on the end it'll make it easier to pronounce. In Grenada they call it Beck-wee. I wish I was there to buy you that drink I promised but I must use the "pandemic" card. Canadians were well taken care of by their government but I'm self employed and because I was busy moving last year instead of making money, those provisions include me out. I guess terra firma must feel like a blessing after all the rolling nights you had on your crossing.

Yes, the correct way to pronounced it flashed up on the screen as text the first time we said it the wrong way. In the middle of the Atlantic, never having heard of the place, we had no idea how it was pronounced 😊
      Cheers!

I wonder if you're the couple I heard about. There were likely others going through the same thing.

Isn't it international law to provide entrance to refuel and provision?

Not if the country is under state of emergency or in lockdown.

Did you not watch till the end?
While under stress, we were focused on the huge problem ahead, just like anyone else would. Once we managed to check in, we high fived, counted our blessings and called ourselves the luckiest people on Earth. We don’t know anyone who would behave any differently to be honest.
