People say he sucks play some of his earlier genesis album talk about complex time signatures and changes. He was playing with brand x he could master all

@@JoeSmith-dh1rz Most of the nasty stuff either comes from kiddies who caught a bit of his unpopular popular pop stuff. Or from (understandable) Peart fanatics. They get an uncomfortable look when they learn that Phil was one of Neil's main role models for becoming a great progressive drummer , about whose technique, dynamics, creativity, feel, power, and groove Neil wrote a glowing tribute. He was a favorite drummer of Fripp and Wetton, partner of Bruford for all those years, who began to put together a progressive power trio, a la Red, except with Phil on drums instead of Bill. Their rehearsal tapes, beginning with the Exposure run-thrus, are available online. Reading the list of heavy duty drummers who consider Phil a master and someone who must be heard, studied, learned from, is eye opening.

@@mortcola i totally agree phil was creative on those drums . Peart did have a interview about him wanting to be like him in his technique. I mean the man was early progressive with so much time signature changing it not funny. Burford was a good hand to collins during live performances. There style wasn't the same in the sense but he could mime what phil was doing . Phil got into brand x and his style developed.

@@mortcola I think it took phil two takes to perfect the drumming on this song

This is my favorite track from his albums. Annie singing Seasons, and others, were beautiful. I once saw Raphael play this live with a kick-ass band. They nailed it. RIP.
    Thank you for posting.
