      @karenlacey4549 Месяц назад +12

The laws of hospitality are a form of social obligation and self-policing these were created to limit and guide how honor and feuds could be avenged. The book demonstrated how the breaking of guest rights during the Red Wedding, destroyed many people's confidence high and low that anyone honoring traditions of guest rights, and loyalty to alliances would be safe themselves.
People began to avenge and attack each other in an " I'll get you before you get me" mentality.
But not for everyone, Wyman's court was one of the few places that allowed people to flee areas where society had broken down for sanctuary. So, keeping guests right himself did a great deal to keep the other northern Lord and small folk aware that nothing would make certain Lords, vassals, and small folk ever overturn ancient traditions of loyalty and obligation.
Lord Wyman's Court and other nobles were fighting tooth and nail to keep the Seven Kingdoms from falling into a dystopian dark age caused by the open acts of sacrilege, abandonment of social customs,, and the general chaos of war.
"The North Remembers" is a phrase that conveys that no person in the North high and low ever forgets a slight, insult, or evil action and who did it, just like they never forget individuals who help others, attempt to aid others, or shares what they have in good and bad times.

From the pink letter we know he hasn't betrayed Bolton and the other northen lords (even without "Arya" in Ramses power) still haven't lift a finger with regards to the Freys or the Boltons.

Having Wyman constantly be ridiculed out of earshot or mentally by others characters for the entire story really sets up this scene so well. Even the other northmen tend to disregard him as an individual, though they all know and respect his power as Lord of White Harbor, but they all make the same fatal mistake of thinking his outward appearance reflects his inner-self. He is not a weak-willed craven or a complete glutton who disregards anything but his own pleasures, he's actually a very patient man filled with terrible conviction and unwavering loyalty.
"When treating with liars, even an honest man must lie."
Sometimes the most dangerous pieces of the game are the most unassuming ones on the board. Underestimate their ability and fail to understand their motives and you may find yourself in check to something that has barely moved, if it has at all.

Then they attain a position of authority and military power over your own while making up unbelievably weak stories about he really died and you have to act as if you are stupid enough to buy it. All the while you have to bide your time and focus your anger into careful, meticulous planning for a chance at justice. @mr.googoopants3581 6 лет назад +82

Rabaa Murad Mostly everyone except for the House Bolton for obvious reasons and possibly Houses Dustin and Ryswell and House Karstark loyal to Arnolf Karstark. House Dustin allegiance to House Bolton - and House Ryswell arises from the fact that the current Lady of Barrowton, Barbey Dustin (nee Ryswell) hates the Stark because she was inlove and always wanted to be married to the then heir to Winterfell, Brandon Stark but was passed over in favor of Catelyn Tully and because, Roose Bolton was her one-time brother-in-law as her sister Bethany Ryswell was the first wife to Roose Bolton and mother of his first born son Domeric. Also because her husband died when he went with Ned Stark to save Lyanna Stark at the Tower of Joy. Unfortunately for the North, those 3 are among the most powerful noble houses in the North.
All of the rest of the Stark supporters like houses Hornwood, Cerwyn, Umber and Locke are not as powerful while others like houses Mormont, Flint, Norrey, Smallwood, etc.
Thank the gods, House Manderly is by the the most powerful noble house in the North after the Starks based on wealth and men. It is said that if the the Lannisters have all the gold and the Tyrells have all the grains - the Manderlys have all the silver! Lord Manderly has great influence over a realm comparable to the size of the entire Stormlands plus, he has warships at his disposal.

Hosteen: We know the man who did this. Killed this boy and all the rest. Not by his own hand, no. He is too fat and craven to do his own killing. But by his word. Do you deny it?
Wyman: I confess ... I confess that I know little of this poor boy. Lord Ramsay's squire, was he not? How old was the lad?
Hosteen: Nine, on his last nameday.
Wyman: So young. Though mayhaps this was a blessing. Had he lived he would have grown up to be a Frey.

most noble houses have names with speacial rings . Bran robb eddard rickard starks, Tywin , tyrion Lannister, Rhaegar, Aemon, Aegon Targarians. except The Freys...Rhaegar Frey. it demonstrates how low this house really is(was). The book is surprising me more and more. i come here to remember why i like GOT after watching 3rd ep s8..SHIT

IIRC if you look at the Frey family tree you can see patterns with their names so it lines up with who's in power. Ie Targaryen names then Baratheon names and then Lannister names. Plus a shit ton of Walders.

The Frey's are actually quite wealthy and have a much larger military force than Riverrun.

Wyman actually fed his guests and also ate some of the frey men just so their bodies were never to be found, this guy means serious business when it comes to vengeance

I like that the names Wyla and Lyanna are right after each other, a subtle nod to the fact that Lyanna and not Wyla is Jon Snow's mother.

This speech made me jump out of my seat. I swear to the old gods and the new I could have ran through a wall right then and there.
