  • I've been having some electrical gremlins with my 1989 Mercedes-Benz 190e 2.6 (w201) and I decided the first place to start in troubleshooting is cleaning the fuse box and inspecting the fuses.

Ok, one major thing. Long ago mercedes came out with a bulletin saying not to use aluminum fuses. You MUST use copper fuses.

Good job and potentially something that could prevent a roadside breakdown - I bet this doesn’t get done much by owners but it’s worthy of TLC - I guess it fixed your delay to the full beam you experienced beforehand and the indicator problem did it? You didn’t say ? Thx for sharing 👍

Yep- solved that problem completely. The car still had other electrical gremlins that were unfortunately more difficult

I had lights do the same, it was the wiring from the lights, right in the back, they were aftermarket lights. Did you try that or how did this work out?

The issues resolved themselves after addressing the fuse box and fuses. Luckily it was an easy fix

Removing the relay cover before removing the fuse box cover makes it easier

Or take off the hood seal just above the cover.
