    FYI to everyone. This solved my starting issue on my 1989 260E. However, the exact same problem occurred again a year later and this time it was not the fuel pump relay. When testing the relay, it performed just like in this video. I got another new relay, but still the car would take a couple of minutes to start. The only way to start the car right away was with the relay bridged with a wire. On another attempt to start the car with the bridged wire, I could no longer hear the fuel pump running and the car would take a couple minutes to start with the abs light on and the rpm's very low. Once the car reached operating temperature, it would idle normal and the abs light would turn off. So the culprit this time was the OVP relay. It was difficult to diagnose, because it would intermittently work and most of the functions of it worked most of the time. What eventually happened though was that it cut the power to the ECU and so it wasn't sending a signal to the fuel pump relay. So my advice is to get a new OVP relay as a spare and to help with diagnosing. Honestly they aren't very expensive and having one on hand can be very helpful in pinpointing a problem. Hope this helps anyone struggling to diagnose their hard starting problem. Cheers!!

      A lot of repair shops not only have expensive tools, but then *subscriptions* that the factory makes them pay in order to access diagnostic programs. So they spread that cost over things that don't need electronic diagnostics/OBDII etc, So things like belts, filters and fluid changes get the price raised higher to help offset the times the shop needs to analyze things like fuel injection & climate control. That's where my videos can help with the mundane service /maintenance you can do yourself. And save the Big Bux repairs for the computerized gadgets.

      I'm just not familiar enough with the various part numbers. (Mercedes has absolute dozens over the eyars for various configurations) If the number of pins matches, in general , it will run the fuel pump. However, it may have different circuitry for things like the cold start valve and rpm over-run when shifting gears. The fact the new par ti sonly one digit different does make me optimistic that it may just supersede the old one and work fine.

    • @FlashDriveFilms
      @FlashDriveFilms 2 месяца назад +1

      Yes, depending on the year and what market it was sold. In, (USA, Europe, Africa etc) the number and function of the pins did change. By 93 there was a cold start valve ( essentially a fifth fuel injector) with its own electronics altered for newer emissions requirements in some markets. That may be why your relay is different. Or you may have the relay from a different model that has been previously swapped in. The center pins still power the pump from the key.

      I don't think I've ever seen one with just 6 pins. If your 190E is a manual transmission and has a carburetor, it might lack the circuits for things like transmission kick-down and the cold start injector. The 2 center pins should still be the power jumper for the pump though.

    • @FlashDriveFilms
      @FlashDriveFilms Год назад

      There are so many possibilities. The 250D is a Diesel engine, that doesn't have the fuel pump relay like the gasoline versions. If it sat for a while, I would suggest putting a charger on the battery and making sure the glow plugs are working. You may have to crank the engine a lot to get the fuel up to the motor if it has drained back from sitting. Usually with a diesel it has to do with either temperature or fuel quality. Make sure the air intake is clear and that nothing (mice, insects) has set up a nest in it. You might try changing the fuel filter , filling it will fresh fuel before installing. (It is really hard to diagnose these things over the internet) Best of luck.

      I honestly don't know the original part number of your fuel pump relay. There are so many, based on what market the car was originally sold in, and what upgrades were made to the relay over the years. You actually don't want the original number as it would be so old now the capacitors are probably shot. The relays did evolve over the years, doing the same things with newer components. Things like MOSFETs and Surface Mount Devices (SMD) that weren't widely used in 1987. Hopefully someone in the comments section has a cross reference for you car and will chime in.
