Nice tutorial! I tried without setting the columns to move manually in the sort and it didn't work for me. However, after setting that option it worked like a charm.

Thanks, it was what I needed but....after dragging my columns, I refreshed the data and it reverted back to original column sorting. Any way to lock the sorted columns into place so a refresh does not change them?

Thanks for the info. What can I do to rearrange the totals. instead of putting them at the end I need them in the front. Can you help me with that

Hey Petra, unfortunately moving the total column to the left isn’t as easy as moving the individual columns (in fact I’m pretty certain it’s impossible). I think there’s some different ways you can game the data to create a total column but I think the easiest thing to do would be use the sumifs function depending on how complicated you want your pivot table. You could lay it out similar to a pivot table with criteria rows on the left and dates on the right (assuming that’s what your want) and just drag your formula with the right cell references should make it dynamic. It’s easier than it probably sounds. Do you have more specifics around what the data looks like?

i cannot find the manual sort

    • @theexcelguy101

Hello, when you say you can't find the manual sort, are you not able to drag the column over or is the cursor not changing to drag the column over? If you click on the header of the column you want to move, it should allow you to hover the cursor over the right side of the column and then drag it to where you want it. Let me know if this doesn't work and we can brainstorm some other solutions

@@theexcelguy101 I have the same issue. When I right click the header and choose 'More sort options', I get a pop-up window with no option for manual sort, only the option to choose from Ascending or Descending. I am on mac and I suspect that's the issue.

Thanks! Unfortunately it doesn't work for me, even when I select to manually move them, I never get the drag-and-drop cursor, just the plus-sign cursor. When I try to move it around it just adds more cells/columns. SUUUUPER annoying, I cannot describe how much I hate 365. I wish they'd stick to proper desktop programs instead of these junk apps that keep crashing.

Nevermind I finally got it to work, I had to exit and re-enter Excel. 365 is such a pain to use, it constantly crashes on me.

@@satnag2005 this tricked me at the start, because I was expecting the green line to appear when I clicked the cell. Click on the heading, move the cursor to the right of the cell so the cursor turns into a crosshair. Click once and the green line should appear when you start to move the mouse to the column's new location.
