We work a small-scale teaching garden, much like the typical Zone 9a backyard garden and raised beds, the kind of gardening accessible to all. We also grow lots of fruit and berries. We tend to take the slice of life approach and hope you will enjoy our family, our dog, our cooking, our adventures, and occasionally some commentary and advice. We love family, joy and friendship, and we invite you to enjoy these things with us!

Jolene by Dolly Parton, love that song🎶
I enjoy you're gardening advise. I AM 79 years old and still garden in MS.
Please stick to your new diet and be well. I miss you when I don't see you. I understand about age and lifestyle and the toll it can take on a person. I'm 76 years old and every spring it takes awhile to get my gumption going. :) Spending too much time sitting inside during the winter really saps my energy. But, each day spent outside in my garden gets a little easier than the day before.
God bless you brother Scott. I pray our Heavenly Father will touch you with His healing hand that you may not have to put those man-made chemicals into your body. May He also restore your strength so you can enjoy your gardening.
Joelene is a song by Dolly Parton.
Scott, next year, I want to single-seed challenge you to grow an Orange Accordian tomato plant. They are fun! The fruit is massive and delicious! I'll even send you a seed!
Always happy to see you Scott even if you are just planting a few tomatoes. Glad to hear that you are taking care of yourself and encouraging others to do the same. I hope you level out and get your energy back soon!
Scott, love you and Phoebe. I’m a bit younger than you, but I’ve been in your shoes with different issues. Medication can help with so much but that transition period can be rough!! Stay in there friend. Stay healthy and garden on. ❤
Oh , Scott , I feel for you. High blood pressure medication does zap your energy. Just to forewarn you, be careful climbing and looking up , cause they'll make you dizzy too. I'm so glad you got help though.
Your tomatoes are looking great. I hope to get ours planted in about a month. They are currently potted up and waiting for hardening off. We increased our planting as well. Have 30 to go out but not sure about my single seed challenge. I planted Black beauty tomatos this year, ( i always do 2 pot's) if i didnt know better I'd think herbicides, but theres no way. They receive the same soil, same fertilizer, same everything, all under lights the same way and they are shriveled while the rest are thriving. Truly boggled my mind.
It was nice seeing you gardening. Give Phoebe a pet.
I’m in North Texas. Storms and hail due next week. Then I’m still seeing temps falling into high 30’s. My plants as well as me are ready to GO!! Think I’m still looking at the 29th 🙄. I’m looking at close to fifty tomatoes ready to plant. I have 15 varies cherry tomatoes the rest in heirloom. I can taste a BLT already! Blood Pressure meds can zap your energy.
I'm in Denton County. We're getting more cold weather?
Jack county. I have some small potted plants in a box sitting outside. I'm chicken to put them in the ground yet. Lol
@@PeaceLoveandPreppingI’m north by about 60 miles from you. Yes!! Check out POW Ponder on Weather. He’s out of DFW. Really spot on for Texas.
Dolly Parton -- Jolene -- great song!! -- worth the listen!!
I just said a prayer for your quick adjustment to the meds, for medicine that helps, and thanks for you for your constant good example done for so many people. I just finished with 'something' neither I nor several doctors were able to identify. But after almost an entire year of sitting (my garden and all the hundreds of starts I had started, died and weeds took over. Now finally, I've begun taking Vit D and I'm better and finally have energy again. It was almost instantly within a week that I felt better. Miracle and thank God!
Gotta take care of yourself Mr Scott. My bp and sugar creeped up on me and I started drinking grapefruit juice every day and trying to exercise daily. I know you can't drink it with some meds but I would highly recommend seeing a dietician if you haven't already. Glad you got help because you need to stick around a good while longer 🙂
Btw, I'm just now seeing this video and that was me who mentioned Jolene (from Ms Dolly Parton)...give it a listen....it's a good one.
Joleen is a Dolly Parton song from the 1970s , still popular to this day .
Joleen Joleen Joleen Joleen please don’t take my man just because you can !!!!
Love y channel ! Get better soon 🙏
Please take care. I enjoy your videos. God bless you.
I feel your pain. I have been having energy problems also. I am in my 70's. I like the Etox tomatoes also.
I always used bone meal in the hole before planting, but my neighbour, an old Italian fellow, goes to the supermarket and they give him a bunch of fish heads cut off, and he puts one at bottom of the hole before planting. I haven’t tried it because worried that the dog will smell it and dig them up
Scott, it's delightful to see you, sir. You taught my family and I how to plant tomatoes in containers and we are certainly grateful. Here's to you and your health- thank you again for making these videos. We all have more to learn from you. God bless you and be well, friend.👍🍅
My Mom used to say her get up and go got up and went , now I know what she meant. Take care of yourself and may GOD BLESS !
That first plant in the ground is such a HUGE step! 😎 Very excited for you! Me, not so planty. 😭
i hear you im in the same boat with zero energy and massive high blood presure.good luck to you.
how can i be dehydrated when i drink a 12 pack of cold beer per day?@@nexium333
Ur flame weeder would have worked as a blow torch, I think.
LOL Phoebe 5:43, "Yeah I think I'm just going to plop down right here if that's fine with you." 🤣 Great video! My tomatoes are a tad behind yours, but I'm getting better every year with timing! Can't wait to see how your garden progresses. God Bless you man of God!
You don't know the song Jolene? You have lived a sheltered life, my friend. One of Dolly Parton's classics. I am not a country fan, but Jolene is a classic, even for this classic rock old hippy. Look it up on RUclips. I also love Harvest Moon.
Not a country fan, not a Dolly fan.
@@ScottHead I hear ya. It's all good.
May God continue to bless you and your garden so your able to continue videos for ppl like me. I pray the fruits of your labor also help better your health. God bless
I feel you with keeping up health. I had my own issues last summer and am finally feeling stronger. So glad to see your videos again. You helped this Jersey Girl learn how to garden in Houston.
Glad to see you out in the garden again. It’s rough dealing with blood pressure issues. It can lead to more serious issues. I lost my best friend of 40 years to a stroke a few months ago. It’s not something to play with. Good luck on your journey to better health!
May God bless you and get you stronger!
This getting older thing is not easy!
Glad to see you back out in the garden!
Ain't that the truth ✌️
Scott I’m so sorry to hear of
your B.P. issues . I Totally understand. I have High BP also along with hypothyroidism arthritis, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia thrown in for good measure! I’ve been doing really well so far this year when it comes to my seed starting & gardening. I’m hoping that you can get back into the gardening groove & are feeling Much better Very Soon 💚🌱💚Please keep in close contact with your Dr. & let him know how you are doing and feeling. Take care 🌱
OH ! If you have a charcoal LIGHTER the ones with a long neck you can use that to burn the edges of the weed fabric where you made the X’s . Also maybe duct tape them Back together to prevent the weeds from getting too much sunlight . I just don’t want you having to deal with weeds this summer with your Texas heat. Again, take care and be safe Scott and family🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱
Prayers hope u get better
It's good to see tomatoes in the ground. Take care of the your health and pace yourself. I'm working the same balance. Happy gardening. Peace.
Praying 🙏🏾 for your health ❤
Oh- I'm a blinkered Neil Young person too. "After the Gold Rush" is a great album- if you haven't heard it, give it a listen by all means. He was all of 24 years old when he wrote it- genius stuff. "Harvest Moon" is a great track too.
I'm glad for the update, we knew last season things weren't going smooth. Health issues are such a bummer but your attitude seems on point! Happy Gardening
Be well and thank you! I enjoy your videos and knowledge 🪴☺
Sorry your having health issues, getting old is not for sissies, feel better soon.
The same thing happened to me. Out of the blue, the energy level went to 0. No energy and sore all the time. It is heck getting older. Good luck with your health. You have the correct attitude. Happy gardening!
Welcome to the 4th age Scott, blood pressure pills and miniscule energy. I have to contact my local handy man to help me ready for spring, I pay him, it cost more to be old, they don't tell you that. You're lucky if you have family or friends to help you gratis.
Mr Head sorry to hear about your health problems. For lack of energy try Vit B12. thanks for your gardening advice - from Chester UK
So glad you're back in the garden! You and Phoebe have been missed! BTW, the isis candy and the other tomato seeds came from me, when I sent you the Seminole pumpkin seeds a few years ago. I'm glad to see at least one of them is doing well!
Happy to hear you're taking care of yourself. They say the best medicine for the garden is the gardener, but the reverse is also true! Be well, friend.
Thanks so much. Now I remember!
Gardening with Mr. Scott 👩🏾🌾🥰
Hey Scott, take care of yourself. Are health is important to us.....
OMG the chunky Corgi is so cute.
Few better soon❤
Hey
It sounds like you’re on HBP meds that slow down your heart rate. I started out on that kind and I couldn’t take it, so they tried me on a different med that actually expands your blood vessels and doesn’t have many side effects. Tell your Dr you want to try something else. Praying you find something that works for you. Cherokee Purple is my fave also.
Take care of you. Sending prayer.
Prayers that you adjust to your meds and thst your energy level returns soon. 🍅🍅🍅
Happy Gardening!
Feel better and take care of you!
I like your videos and learn a lot!
I wish you well.
I would like to know/learn why my tomato plants don't seem to grow as big as yours.
Do you have a video on slow seed starts and how to correct it?
Thank you!
I don't have a video on slow growth, but I do get the seeds on a heat mat under the lights so perhaps that's a reason.
Please take care of yourself- love your videos- I’m doing Jimmy Nardelo as my single seed challenge. Love your advice and humility- sorry to hear but take care of your blood pressure. Thanks so much - Steve zone 6 b
Scott is that fabric Commercial? I'm wanting to do that too.
No and I tossed the label but if you watch my previous video on flame weeding I show the label.
Kevin at Epic Gardening did a great video where he tested tomatoes planted on kitchen scraps, a whole fish, and several other nutrient sources to see which ones do best. Worth watching. 💚
i had to have elbow and shoulder surgery so im doing a mix of hydroponic starts and store bought plants its not ideal but life got in the way
Yes, once health goes its hard to get it back. Good to see you.
Hi Mr. Head, sending love and healing your way. I hope your health gets better with time and you adjust to your new life style and health plan. ❤
Dang. I’m in The Woodlands, I planted my seeds about a week and a half before you and they’re only a fourth of the size!
Thanks for sharing!
I got most of mine planted and the tomatoes are about 2 ft tall and flowering. I plant my vegetables above ground in oval tubs . I am about to plant some
Jambalaya okra for the first time . Can’t wait to see how they do. Southeast Texas here
Take care! Love seeing you and growing tomatoes with you! Can’t wait for tomato sandwiches!
Praying for you, Scott. My seed for the single seed challenge won't arrive until tomorrow. It's a pepper seed, so I'm hoping it's not too late.
Enjoying the single seed challenge. Sorry to hear about your health struggles. Adjustments take time, but good things are worth waiting for. 😊
Thank you for the video.God bless you
I won't even take an asprin
Love Harvest Moon❤❤❤
Happy Gardening to you as well. I'm sorry to hear about your health issue's. It's worth looking into what medication you have been given as in numerous cases, certain medication can actually make you feel worse. Consider asking your Doctor about taking a liquid iron supplement, they work really well. In the UK they have one called Feroglobin, it might be available near you. In the meantime, I will say a prayer for you. Take care, Fran
Thank you for sharing. I am thinking of getting a high tunnel next year and planting in the ground using the material like you have. My question is, when you use liquid fertilizer and watering do you have to pull back the material so the plants gets it directly?
Hope that you feel better soon! Plants look great!
I love your channel I live down in South Texas and I watch you every time you put out a video and Jolene Dolly Parton song that you should listen to it very good song
🙏
Wouldn't the flame weeder work as a blowtorch for that weedcloth? Not that it matters really.
Hope the meds are helping. Just don't try and do too much until you find your balance. Cheers!
Nice garden set-up. Hope you feel better soon.
Hi Scott
Sorry to hear you have some medical issues going on.
I know unfortunately from being on several medications some of the side effects can almost be worse than the issue
So be sure to pay attention to side effects of med if they are unbearable be sure to tell your doctor so you can try a different medication (Doctor Vicki ha 😉advice)
Hopefully you get to feeling better soon
Thank you for 10% off code on IV organics product. I’ve Been wanting to try that one.
Thank you always for all the helpful videos and information
God bless
still to cold here
You left me baby n had to find someone to replace you. Glad you are back.
Hello. I have around 50(20 and 10 gal) fabric pots that I filled last year with 4 yards of new potting soil. Tomatoes, peppers, squash, beans, eggplant. I'm wondering how best to refresh the soil for this years grow. Replace some of the old soil in each pot with fresh compost and slow fertilizer(tomato tone)? I also have an inline fertilizer system for drip irrigation(master blend). Wondering what folks may do in my situation before ordering a bunch of fertilizer and compost. Thanks for any input.
Yes you are on the right track. Just top it off with fresh compost or fresh soil and definitely amend with slow release.
You're doing some things that I am curious to know how they will work out: the black weed barrier, Purple Cherokee and other varieties of determinates planted in container. I was wondering if there is a tomato variety for container planting that does well in heat and humidity.
I tried Edox in a container. It tasted on the acidic side maybe because it produced while root bound in the container, and I had to water it a lot.
I have been getting hybrid tomatoes with plenty of disease resistance bred into them. I wonder if I have to do anything different for the Cherokee Purple and if there's a way to avoid their cracking when watered a lot in a container. (I heard they're very susceptible to cracking.)
My gardening is still small scale and in containers because hot weather can be difficult for me to deal with. I have access not too far away to planting on property if I ever want to.plant larger and in-ground.
There are several varieties that do well in heat and humidity - I just don't know any of them except the Everglades tomato, and its fruit is the size of a marble.
Ask your Dr.tocut the dose in half your being móre active and that will lower your pressure.
Take care of you please…
Yeah, it's Hell getting old. My kids are grown and out of the house and what do I do? Naps. Not how I envisioned my newfound freedom. Anyway; TOMATOES. Planting mine this week and I have an extra three dwarf bush determinants. I'm going to steal your idea and try them in pots. Just need to do a little research.
i recommend Healthy Habits striction bp and or striction d also juvenon
Great video. Hang in there. Where do you get your EDox tomato seeds?
Johnny’s Select Seeds. They are the developers of the variety.
Johnny's Select Seeds is the only place to get Edox.
Looks like they're pretty expensive thee. Thanks for the information.
Goodness, Scott, I am so truly sorry for your health struggles. Especially after having a hard couple of years as you mentioned awhile ago. I’m praying for you to regain your strength in every way, brother.
Be encouraged in God’s faithful Word to His people:
“The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but *those who hope in the Lord*
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.”
Isaiah 40: 28b-31
Amen! Praying for your gradual and complete recovery, Scott🙏
You cut to big of a hole the weeds are going to be ruff

Harvest Moon is one of my favorite songs too. Check out this version by the Brothers Comatose and AJ Lee.
Keep fighting for your health, Scott. You are missed when you’re not here.
