Happy July 9th! How did you guys like Speak Now TV and the Vault Tracks?!
I think Speak Now TV has the best batch of vault tracks. Love the record all around.
@@meganchapa7615I feel like even if it’s only six tracks, each one hits the mark!
Why is nobody talking about Haunted? like it feels darker and heavier than the original (also I really love Better Than Revenge even with the lyric change cus the instrumentals sounds angrier lol)
I feel like it’s the track placement for sure, it’s a deep cut. But agreed, the instrumental and vocals on Better Than Revenge make me want a proper rock Taylor album. I didn’t realize how much crisper the instrumentals were now. The old version feels 480p sometimes 😭
@@EljohnMacaranas I hated story of us Icl
Haunted is the only one talking I’m talking about with people rn lol, it was already my second fav on the original but the new matured vocals make it just that much better, richer and more profound. That’s what set it on top for me. 🙌🏻
@@starchanneljoseph RIGHT?!! She sounds waayy better with the mature vocals on this song than the original
@@EljohnMacaranas The stolen version sounds like all of her vocals were getting muffled by the instrumentals which is why its kinda painful to the ears for me 😭😭😭
"...imagining a young Swift bringing this to the Big Machine bosses and giving them a heart attack, is so funny" 🤣
No like I know Scott Borchetta was like “oh no, my yeehaw plans…”
I get why she removed the line from BTR, but I couldn’t help but roll my eyes when I first heard it. I immediately thought about how men are praised in the music industry for writing whole albums about literally abusing women (mainly in the rap and hip hop genre), but a woman would be impaled by the public for one, ONE line that is a bit slut-shamey. I even think it’s so tame compared to the misogynistic shit men put out on the daily.
Edit: so essentially I’m not saying it’s bad she changed it, but it’s annoying that there’s a clear double standard when it comes to misogyny and how we STILL allow misogynistic men to thrive but expect women to be perfectly politically correct all the time.
I completely get it, a man can talk shit and worse about women and be praised as a genius (and win Grammys for it.) He can even disparage a romantic rival, but the minute a woman says anything remotely shady it becomes news and a scandal.
I wish she would've kept it. It made the song a bit 'spicy'. The new version feels a bit sterile and lyrically generic.
There is also the other side of “enchanted” of being put under a spell and not realising until it’s too late. So i do agree it would have worked as a title
Hearted bc I didn’t realize enchanted is just the romantic version of being bewitched
@@EljohnMacaranas yes! Bewitched was the word i was looking for!
I have a feeling speak now TV and GUTS by Olivia Rodrigo which is yet to be released are going to be the best emo girl albums of the year, I'm Moving out of my parents house and going to medical school in a Big city in my country in september and I can't wait for these two albums to literally be the soundtrack of my life when september comes
Congrats! I’m hoping these albums soundtrack amazing moments for you!
I thought Long Live in particular sounded so much better than the original, and a few others too. But I'm really glad none of them got the I Knew You Were Trouble TV treatment 💔
Or the Wheeeee! Are Never Ever Getting Back Together TV treatment. I think Max Martin not wanting to come back might be why some of them sounded off last time whereas these productions are a bit less complicated.
It is really good. Innocent is her most underrated song ❤
Her singing it at the VMAs the year after Kanyegate 😭
Crumbling Castles on repeat for the rest of my life!!!
I saw your reaction video just now! Taste! 🔥
I can see you will probably enter the taylor swift Canon of essential songs, it's the predecessor to dress, so good!
Also, Haunted and The Story of Us go ALL THE WAY OFF 😝🤟🏻🤗
I Can See You’s video already is probably one of Swift’s best videos ever. I think it’ll do well charts-wise because it screams Summer. Also, the rock songs do carry 🫡
What do you think about Haunteds new echo throughout the song?
She did announce before performing When Emma Falls in Love on the Eras tour that she wrote it about her friend… so it’s not about the Jane Austen novel and is probably about Emma Stone.
It’s so cool they’re friends!
I could see her using Emma by Jane Austin as a reference though. It is within her wheelhouse.
@@chelsea5226we love an artist who stans classic lit 🫡
i'm so glad my favourite TS album is finally receiving the love it deserves and every single vault track is SO GOOD (especially Foolish One, Timeless and When Emma Falls In Love imo) 💜
Speak Now is finally having its moment. I’m actually scared for a 1989 rerelease now.
I like most of the vault tracks! My only criticism of the re-release is it's just missing that teen angst in her voice but I don't blame her as she's moved on lol
Oh agreed, the emotion from this and Fearless just feel long gone (and that was partially why we loved those albums, i mean the lyrics are timeless but i miss certain details and even the shakiness of her voice at times), tbh the Vault Tracks are really probably the biggest hook we have other than helping free her songs.
I saw a comment that the original is the text you send when you're angry and the re recording is the next day when you've cooled down and you're like 'yikes'
i LOVED the re-recording of last kiss, the guitars have a lot more reverb on them and it makes it feel a lot more full
That’s what it was! It sounds amazing on some good speakers, also the way she sings the bridge just sounds richer. Like there’s a confidence there she didn’t have then 😭
Shame there was no shaky breath though
👏👏👏 love this re-record and your thoughts on it. There are not enough songs in the world with tremolo guitars. The “I can see you” mv is her best yet.
Aaah! Love to see you back in the comments, thank you! Agreed! We need more tremolo guitar like the textures on the track are amazing. That music video gives me faith if Taylor does go left field and make an action movie or something.
Vocally and production wise best re-recording thus far. Enchanted is full-on enchanting sonically. That Last Kiss bridge does cut to the quick. I am a fan of the lyric change admittedly. I can definitely see what you mean about it being more romantic and experimental than previously thought because of the vault tracks. The "Ow Ow Ow" or "I I I" reminds me mostly of Hey Stephen and the whole Fearless ad-libs vibe. I didn't realize she doesn't do that too much anymore unless you count the ad-libs in the pre-chorus of Reputation and others like it. Evolution am I right :)
Agreed all the way! I miss the ad libs so much! Like bring them back!
“The only exception” line reminds me of Paramore’s “You Are The Only Exception”
I feel like it could have been inspired by that since the song dropped in February of 2010, Speak Now would drop in October.
Foolish One is about queen wanda maximoff in my mind 🥺 just like right where you left me
Taylor Swift 🤝 Wanda
Universe breaking their hearts
I definitely think speak now fits better with the vibe of the album
It did end up being the stronger title but I am curious how different the album rollout would have been, or at least the music videos. Like they really did try to ground her using the Mine and Ours videos
was lowkey disappointed w castes crumbling bc hayley didn’t have enough solo verses
More Hayley Williams version please, Taylor? I wish it had been a more dynamic track but I did find it fascinating that she predicted her future.
Wait, *Pearl voice* EMMA STAUR?! I didn’t even know they were friends 😭
There were rumors that she was going to do Cruella 2 with her but they never panned out (and between the tour and her own movie, it's probably not happening)
the little giggle in speak now song sounds sooo edited in
Yeah, there's a few moments that feel a little edited whereas the original has these quirks you know came from the same takes.
Two is better than one was my wedding song and Electric Touch is a masterpiece 😭
Awwwwwwwww 🩵
Unpopular opinion I love the lyric change
I think it’s thoughtful, the way she did match the syllables so it still preserves the song’s rhyme scheme!
I think about Andrea and her team reacting to I Can See You in 2010 ALL THE TIME. That song is hilarious when i think of it coming from the diary of a 20 year old Taylor. 10/10
The scene in Turning Red when the mom gets the notebook
TS has been on the other end of slut shaming by the media quite a bit since she first wrote Better Than Revenge. She likely doesn't want to do that to another woman, since she now knows how it feels. I thought the change was brilliant.
An empathetic queen.
The shaky breath loss is not talked about enough
I'll just illegally download the stolen version and listen to it
I had to replay the song to make sure I didn’t miss it 😭 That shaky breath killed me when I first listened years ago but Scooter is not getting a single dime. Definitely ripped my old CD and uploaded to Spotify 🤭
I got the speak now tv special fans poster and i love the vault tracks probably my 2nd favorite out of all the re-recorded vault tracks so pretty solid, however i think the og tracks are better than the vaults. i also don't understand the hate for better than revenge's lyric change. I'm also a folklore stan so that may have something to do w it 😭😭but also side note you should review the barbie album because im literally jamming out to speed drive rn💀
The OG tracks are classic, I think the hate for the new lyric is rooted in nostalgia tbh. I don’t hate it, I just prefer the original (problematic or not)
(And yah, I probably will review the Barbie album but maybe late bc I’ll be on vacation when it drops and I want to see the movie first.)
DUDE YES I SAID IN A SWIFTIE CHAT AFTER SHE SANG WHEN EMMA FALLS IN LOVE THAT IT SOUNDS LIKE DROPS OF JUPITER TOO!! I just saw her on tour last night it was amazing!!!
Aaaah! I’m so happy you got to see her! Also jelly of your Surprise Songs! I adore the subtle Drops of Jupiter sound, it makes me love that track a lot more. Such a cute romcom track 🥹
hard agree on everything you said, but for me haunted tv (which was always my favorite song from the start) was a hard miss :( and i think my issue lies with the way it was mixed? idk anything about music production but haunted tv felt so flat, as if all the emotion was completely lost. the iconic intro riff is flat, the entire song just doesn’t sound dynamic. to be fair, her vocals have improved significantly which sound amazing. but the way the song was mixed is a huge miss for me. plus, all the verses sound so…echo-y? like they kelp the reverb effect on? the bridge from a vocal perspective was amazing and cleaner and less breathy, but the fact that the instrumentals behind it were so dull and flat and stuff, it made the whole bridge experience lose me. idk. i was so disappointed for the one song i was looking forward to the most.
Aaaah, thanks for watching! I think the mixing on the album was touched on for spatial audio like I noticed some of the songs sounded better on Airpods. When I turned off Dolby Atmos, it sounded a bit clearer on a few tracks. But I do agree on Haunted sounding a little off especially after reading your notes and relistening. That’s a shame!
I like the moth line, but it just doesn't fit in the chorus. The chorus is all in second person present and suddenly this line uses the past and the 3rd?
I never realized the shift in perspective like that, it makes me realize the internal logic of writing a song is delicate
best vault tracks out so far (with the exception of atw ten minute, but that's a single track)
oh my god same i thought castles crumbling was safe and sound when i first heard it
@seven7_7 agreed! I feel like the diversity in sound makes it really feel like a collection of “what if’s” in a way the previous two didn’t quite have. Also yaaaas Safe and Sound’s sister
Great video. Also, your voice sounds INSANELY familiar but I can’t place who it reminds me of. 🤔
My flat valley girl accent 😭
i taylor was just doing damage control when she changed the lyrics in better then revenge. Yes the fan nit pick it but imagine the scrutiny she'd get if she didnt change it. I personally dont mind. I love the pettiness.
I feel like regardless of whatever people had already exhausted the talking points about it. But again, I’m guessing the media already knew ahead of time since they had articles running not even 5 mins into the release (reviewers actually said they were bummed it was gone 😭)
Can someone pls tell me the time that the shaky breath happens in original last kiss. I cant find it for the life of me.
It’s 4:26 on the original track when she sings “Beautiful Day”, super tiny detail but you really can tell it came from an intense emotional session.
@@EljohnMacaranas 🫶💕
I feel like her attempt at making better than revenge inoffensive kinda ruined the purpose of the song which is letting your intrusive thoughts win and express emotions and thoughts that you would otherwise hide due to them being problematic. I feel like the song has kinda lost its vibe. Though I do think the moth to the flame metaphor is clever, I think she should have thought of a better alternative for the mattress line
I agreed the intentions and the rage of being a 20 something who doesn’t quite know how to articulate it with grace. I think the reason the moth and flame thing happened is bc rewriting a song to match a rhyme scheme from years ago is hard. I’m actually impressed the words work.
