Friends reunited at last. Rest in peace and power Ginger Baker! Can only imagine how Fela feels seeing his old friend again, wherever they may be. Our legends are dying. Let's keep their memories alive! 🙏❤
I remember seeing, in my early teens, seeing a documentary on the BBC about Ginger Baker travelling in a Land Rover to Nigeria to make music with Fela Kuti. A life-altering musical episode for me
At the age of 4 in 1974 I remember DJing at for my parents house parties…Let’s Start and Black Man’s Cry were always on request and had everyone bumping
Yep, amazing album - and Ginger Baker deserves credit both for his drumming here and for helping Fela get a distribution deal for his records in Europe and the UK!
No playing around in this recording session. Message strong and bold still reverberating from this sonic blast with a the tired Sahara Desert driver aka Ginger Baker hitting da beat. What a treat post-Halloween. Tricks on corruption of Nigeria & Greater African nations north--south- east and west. JJ
That energy!!!! The James Brown of Africa!!! As at the time. Fela was truly FELA!.Came well, ran well and fought well. Deservedly iconized globally now.
CLASSIC live album, easily Top 10 on my personal list as well as one of the most influential from that golden '70s decade for that matter. Makes a great primer for folks who have no clue of who Fela is or the profound impact he had on the world music scene even long after his passing 26 years ago. Having legendary UK drummer Ginger Baker (RIP) sitting in with Fela's band was merely extra icing on an already well-layered chocolate fudge cake! 🥮🍽😋👌
I was in the streets of Spain In 1972 when I heard this album i followed the music until I found it love this album none better and then they did a musical play about him so it's a no-brainer enjoyed it took me back 40 ear's the best ever
Brings back good memories. In the summer of '74 I was a 20 year old California boy traveling throughout Germany where I found and purchased this very album.
Saw Ginger Baker play with an African ensemble at City Winery in Chicago before he passed away. He was very fragile at first and then gained power and vitality as he drummed. I was astonished at how well he played when at first he didn't look like he could beat a lick. Saw his son play too once and he was fire too..... R.I.Play Ginger Baker we miss you ❤❤❤
Those last minutes of Ye ye de smell! Ginger is totally. Mesmerized. Into some sort of bizarre trance. He could go on for hours and not even realize it. 😶🤔
First time I heard this song I was about 8 years old (in Nicaragua) I fell in love with it, got the record me and my friends used to get down with it ...I still love it to this day ...yeah!!
Both drummers Tony Allen & Ginger Baker join Fela on this track. Which is the first Fela track I've ever heard. Which was 1973 on Stevie Wonder's station, here in Los Angeles, California.
oh i am lucky man!!! i picked this album up many moons ago in a charity shop!!!!.. still hoping for water no enemy to swoon on my waiting lap!!. he is an absolute musical genius.
Got a brand new repress of this last fall, a mere 2 weeks before Ginger's passing... I'm cooped up my GF's house away from my LP's right now... So, listening to his on RUclips instead!!
sound of a social and political revolutionary, and creative genius. this the rest of his set of works all remain grossly under valued in mainstream western listening. #StillSanders
Ginger said he liked playing this over Cream or any of his rock stuff and you can hear it in his playing!

Read his autobiography, Baker’s and what a life . Goes into detail his time with Fela and what a mad , wild ride Ginger’s life was .
Cheers
No Dance Party or Real Life Celebration is complete without Fela Kuti.......❤

I love how Tony plays during the beginning of the piano solo of the song "Let's Start".
Fela is one the best ARTIST ever!!!!!!!!!
Some of the greatest Afro-West music ever recorded, with an accent on "Afro". Everyone on this album has left his/her mark on human history.
Are there any female players?

Wow! At times Ginger sounds like an African Tribe. Love the bass player too. soooo funky.
paul: Yes, the Ginger tribe. They were feared warriors in West Africa until most of them died of sunburn.
@@milascave2 nice one paul
Sadly missed: Legends all: a good night to reflect on the giants, and admire their musical genius.

no, Baker is only on tracks 3,5,7. he does not play on "Let's Start", that's just Tony Allen and the percussionists.
@@petesmusictoshed3575 Interesting, the record cover doesn't clarify this information. Thanks anyway. Everyone seems to run with this narrative.
