He was never too big to stop and peel the petals off of a flower that wasn't to his liking, only the flowers were people that slighted him by not doing exactly what he wanted. Every time we think he hit rock bottom in terms of evil the developers add more details about his deeds that horrify and disgust us all over again.
And even doing exactly what he wanted wouldn't save you from his cruelty. His "kindness" and "rewards" for good service and loyalty could be even worse than his punishments, at times.
@@Psycordewell he was always petty. Just like all the other orokin. From the lore we know that they are so petty, just look at the lore of dagath, jade and stalker. Or look at the grineer queens, who are orokin.
@Psycorde I actually think the opposite imo. Ballas essentially wanted control over everything and he achieved that with the veils, Lotus's powers, and manipulation of the sentients. Wow its almost like there was something going on in the world at the time i wonder what- Understandable when you know. Also deimos was supposed to come out AFTER the new war as well but they dropped deimos early so we'd have something to do.
Im a little sad Ross cut out the segments of picking Rells emotion cards. This quest didnt just introduce the Man in the Walls, but also established that Rell was autistic- something a lot of people in the community find relatable
The Warframe writers actually did such an amazing job foreshadowing the current story. For years they have been building up these crazy threads. Hyped to see how Cross reacts to the new stuff
The whole warframe story isn't written out, the developers only have a rough idea of the next story mission 1-2 years in advance at most. It seems like foreshadowing because 1) they stick to the lore from older quests when working on new ones and 2)they sometimes go back and retcon small details to make it all work (for example adding references to Koumei into quests that came out years ago even though Koumei only just came out)
@@SaxPanther Sorry to disturb, can I ask where they added Koumei references in old quests? I'm really into those new "additions" in older quests, I never replayed one
@@antiversum919 For example, after the Gara quest, you get an inbox message from Saya. After the Fates update they went back and changed that inbox message to have Koumei's name in it- not only for new players, but also for players who did that quest many years ago and never deleted the message.
All these Warframe videos just make me realize the potential breadth that live service games have to offer in terms of a long, overarching story. Amazing how a story that’s not split up over games or had parts removed can feel that much more epic
the best part is that, later, they retcon their own stuff by adding retcon as a literal universal truth. so they can go as insane as a final fantasy game. and that's saying ALOT.
> or had parts removed There have been some time-limited events which established pieces of lore that are no longer accessible, which is a little unfortunate.
Gotta say, it's super fascinating seeing what the story looks like when all played back to back. There was such a long gap between the quests releasing as it was happening, it built up so much anticipation for what was coming

To answer Cross question, every warframe WAS once a person. The orokin infected volunteers and people they voluntold, it turned them crazy. The Tenno, your operator, was on a horrible accident on the Zariman Ten Zero, a colony ship with most likely, millions of people aboard. It experienced a void warp “explosion” or whatever it was called in game. This void can turn emotions and feelings into reality. It can twist the minds of an individual and turn nightmares into infinite realities. It’s why Rell was talking about the Man In The Wall.
Imagine the Timeline and how long Rell was 1 V 1 the Man In The Wall..... and here we have been asleep all this time, doing cool space ninja stuff.... being loot goblins and mowing down hordes of enemy. Chains of Harrow really brought a perspective on autism to the WF universe, much respect to the devs to expand real world topics, i feel it encouraged more awareness, Autism is not Stupidity in fact most are very intelligent, just in terms of emotional stability they are sensitive and have difficulty displaying or controlling the emotions. The lore and storyline goes deep sometime and some parts fly over peoples head, but much respect on the depths they are willing to go. Amazing Storyline, i always wish i can wipe my memory and enjoy the storyline again for the first time...
@ you’re forgetting that there are universes where rell is constantly fighting the man in the wall forever because we don’t save him. This universe is just the one we’ve saved him in.
@@servers5717pretty sure our deal with Wally collapsed all the timelines with the Tenno into 1, with the exception of the (spoilers) Drifter. I say exception because Rell's death in the operator timeline affected Duviri
Finally my favorite quest The Sacrifice and my favorite frame. Excalibur Umbra. The best frame. Ive played Warframe for 10 years and Ive been an Excalibur main for all 10. picked Excalibur as my starter and mained him until Umbra and have mained Umbra ever since. Umbra is Space Dad. So I do not know if Chat mentioned this, but the reason Rell is "different" is because he was Autistic. He was smart as all hell, understanding in detail things about void travel(read the comic), but as many autistic people(me included) he struggled with emotions. And hypersensitivity

Man, that moment under the tree when you finally reach Umbra never fails to make me shed a tear or two qwq On a side note, the youtube channel Noclip did a two part documentary on DE and Warframe and you should absolutely watch it ! It sheds a ton of light on how Warframe came to be and how much of a freakin' miracle it is that we got Warframe or that DE exists today.
It's actually fun watching well known gamers slowly get what makes Warframe and DE special. I've friends that"played Warframe" and didn't like it but when I looked at that profile have less than ten hours in it. 😬
Major props to DE for taking Warframe - a game where you carve, with ease, through literal hundreds in a 5 minute mission - into a place where you felt vulnerable and afraid despite wearing a suit of living infested space metal while controlling eldritch void powers.
I’m in my first 6 months of the game and I’m loving looking back and seeing guys like Cross discover things for the first time! Makes me feel like a vet 😂
It makes me so happy to see cross go through the warframe quests and start to theorize on the story himself, warframes got such an interesting and engaging story that has only gotten better as they release more updates, and with him finally getting into the new war arc i cannot wait to see how he reacts to that questline and what it brings to the story! I just hope nothing gets spoiled for him if he does watch one of the lore videos.
Welp, free context courtesy of someone who missed doing this quest: Rell was a Tenno outcast as far back as the Zariman days, the other children would often cast him out and scratch him as weird. When the ship got stranded in the void and all children got their void powers, only he knew the void's true nature, he studied it and "the man in the wall" until the ship was found by the Orokin. When the children got rescued and taken to Lua, Rell accidentally blinded Margulis and got cast out once again, which is why Lotus doesn't know of him. Eventually he found a group who were curious about him, he gave them all the information he knew and eventually led to the creation of the Red Veil. Rell used himself to safeguard the void entity he called the man in the wall, but upon realizing he wouldn't live the necessary years to protect reality from the entity due to not being put on the Reservoir, he fused his spirit with his own warframe Harrow (one which has no info about aside from his association with Rell). This is when it gets tricky, after the Tenno awoken their true power, Rell's own protection weakened, the entity was gaining strength and refusing his influence, which leads us to this quest. A bit of extra info about Rell, he's autistic, this got confirmed by Rebecca.
Hey dude, it’s been really cool just watching you enjoying yourself as much as you are in this game. Glad that you gave it a chance and that it ended up being something you liked. Hope you keep playing and keep having a great time, dude.
So to explain the 'Morality' system a bit more, it doesn't really rely on good and evil... it relies on emotion. Are you thinking, and feeling? Or just a husk? Empty inside, and broken? Even hating someone is better than being devoid of *any* feeling. Of being so far gone that nothing matters.

I recently sat with my grandmother, talking to her as she was dying. Looking back at this quest which was already one of my favorite stories in all of gaming history, I wonder if Issah was slowly coming to the realization that his father was going to die in that bed. His words and his tone, especially in his last bit of dialogue before his death, mirror how I spoke to my grandmother. Memories of good times, appreciation, the honor he felt for being his son. In a way, I guess his father really did die.
I never get to watch the stream, but as someone with 1,400+ hours in the game I really enjoy watching Cross experience it for the first time. And also every time he unlocks a new frame and literally just uses melee over and over, lol. We just watched nearly an hour of Protea not casting one ability. Good times.
I think the pronounced melee use is due to it being easier to build strong melees than guns before getting into things like Galvanized mods (and now there's galvanized melee mods...). I like guns more, so the base star chart often felt like a slog for me, even if used my meager endo reserves for upgrading the available primary/secondary mods. For a long time melee felt like a panic button for "oh dang, this thing is tough" situations.
ONe thing you diddn't notice about Umbra it's the only fully automomous warframe. The warframe actualy still works when your in operator form and will back you up.
The Sacrifice is just so much cooler with that bug. Isaah being fully lit makes sense because you wanna get attached to him but Ballas being in full shadow with glowing eyes is just so goddamn cool
I think what would be really cool is if they put a spotlight on his son and the items of interest in the room that they want you to look at or listen to, as if it was a theater play. But NEVER shine the light on Ballas, keep his silhouette and dim the room lighting. It could be good symbolism too for Umbra blaming himself instead of Ballas.
The pure face of disbelieve once you found out what happened to the Lotus😝 i loved this Quest! It‘s such a Turntable! There‘s coming more and i can‘t wait for you to play the Rest as well! The Story is soooo goood!!!
This story is so good I love it when someone sees this quest for the first time. The realization that you’re not piloting a metal suit, but a person forced to relive a horrific memory forever, as they’re forged into an immortal war machine. And your operators purpose is to relieve their pain to properly control their abilities. It’s insanely well written story and totally heart wrenching. Watching Umbra cry in the final stand of his mind had me in tears when I first played it. I can’t wait to see the rest of your play through.
i really wanna see Cross react to reach of the Prime Trailers. BTW, congrats on Protea Prime. she very much is one of the best Warframe you can have. she has area wide damage that can and will shred your enemy with the augment, her second is a great DPS increase, her three makes her an amazing support and make sure you never run out of energy, life, or ammo, and her 4 let her spam the HELL out of that.
52:53 Man...I've got to congratulate you on your understanding of the plot. It goes over so many peoples heads. I've seen so many people complete the entire game and not understand the "Look inside an ugly broken thing, and take its pain away" line the way you did straight away. The only thing you didn't get quite right is that Umbra is unique in needing the Operator to calm him...Ballas had another solution for the other frames. When the proto-frames started going mad, the Orokin lobotomised them. They stopped them from becoming murderous monsters like Umbra by surgically deleting their personality. It was not entirely successful. When your frame saves you by breaking the sword in Second Dream...that's the remnants of the human your frame used to be going "Fuck you Hunhow! I'm going to save my operator". What Ballas did to Umbra is the old, prototype version of trying to make Warframes, from before they had Tenno to calm them. Ballas deliberately let the Dax that became Umbra keep his memories knowing that the most visceral one would be all that's left after he was driven mad (because he'd seen it happen with all the other frames), turning Umbra into an immortal prison for Isaah's father, where the only memory he has left is killing his own son.
This is incorrect, the protoframes didnt exist until Albert took Ballas work to 1999, the original frames were just in the same state as umbra but not reliving one singular memory, thats the difference. The first batch of warframes seemingly didnt have a bolt to be controlled at first and retained a lot of their original personality, such case is dante. The second round had bolts to better allow control over them and their individual attributes were more tamed. The final batch is the ones you make in game, duplicates without anything of the original except some manerisms.
He needs to see Ordis' back story, the cephalon fragments from all the main locations will make cards in the codex, and running your mouse over those images will reveal bits of Ordis, which explain how cephalons are made and why Ordis is the way he is.
DE big chilling because I can’t stop myself from giving them money. The cosmetics are fire and the game is like crack. If they ever did things like raids (but doable solo) I would simply grind forever.
A common misconception is that the first scene with Umbra is an ancient flashback, it’s actually shown to the Operator in real time. After the Second Dream, Umbras cell ruptured and opened unleashing him on the sol system, Ballad reappeared to destroy him before he became an issue, that’s why Sentient Lotus was seen in the vision.
Yeah................. Lotus's true form is horrifying. That isn't another person, it really is her all along. But don't fret, keep on doing the quests and you'll understand what made her ajust her appearance and become the Lotus we all know. Everything will be explained soon, Cross.

It's been years since I've played through most of these quests, and now that I better understand the lore, it is very cool to now re-experience the story, and actually recognize what is happening.
I am glad you are enjoying yourself Cross.
No kidding. Having to wait years in between quests and also not really understanding the lore in the first place was confusing to say the least. But now everything is making so much sense

Understandable when you know.

Warframe is a good example of the potential of a live service game model as well an example of lost potential of other live service games.
@@marcosdheleno I guess now that you put it that way, retcons are literal cannon.

The original Warframes, yes, the Warframes we have now are mass produced puppet with tiny hints of sentience.
For the most part, only the Warframes of ancient times were people. The ones we use are just 3D printed.

Finally my favorite quest The Sacrifice and my favorite frame. Excalibur Umbra. The best frame. Incredibly based. I've played since 2018 and have basically followed the same path of excal main to umbra main. Such a good frame/character.
I mained Oberon for some time, and Rhino before that, but like you I started with Excal, and now main Umbra

So I do not know if Chat mentioned this, but the reason Rell is "different" is because he was Autistic. He was smart as all hell, understanding in detail things about void travel(read the comic), but as many autistic people(me included) he struggled with emotions. And hypersensitivity
The cards minigame is a common autism test, a great example of "show, don't tell"

The Sacrifice was peak Warframe, still is
It makes me so happy to see cross go through the warframe quests and start to theorize on the story himself, warframes got such an interesting and engaging story that has only gotten better as they release more updates, and with him finally getting into the new war arc i cannot wait to see how he reacts to that questline and what it brings to the story! I just hope nothing gets spoiled for him if he does watch one of the lore videos.
Ooo, just wait till Angels of Zariman.
35:07 understatement of the century right there
Babu: he bad man very very bad man
Welp, free context courtesy of someone who missed doing this quest: Rell was a Tenno outcast as far back as the Zariman days, the other children would often cast him out and scratch him as weird.
Rell is a real G, bro was holding the Indifference by himself all this time
Hey dude, it’s been really cool just watching you enjoying yourself as much as you are in this game. Glad that you gave it a chance and that it ended up being something you liked. Hope you keep playing and keep having a great time, dude.
the words "ballas" and "Good" should never be put together
more warframe is always good
So to explain the 'Morality' system a bit more, it doesn't really rely on good and evil... it relies on emotion.

Thanks for sticking with the game and it's been really fun to watch you on twitch and here. We all lift together!
Ok, I really need to get back to Warframe again! This was peak indeed. I haven't been this fascinated since Destiny 2 Forsaken.
56:46 mf was quick with it😭😭
i really wanna see Cross react to reach of the Prime Trailers.
I love how it became scary but knowing I have to get to this part myself it doesn’t seem so fun😁
