The game has received updates since this tutorial was made that 'fixed' the ability to hit the prison cell switches. So you'd either need to downpatch the game through steam or learn a different route for this category. Can check the speedrun leaderboards for updated routes for the different categories - www.speedrun.com/atb?h=Any_Restricted-No_Major_Glitches&x=w20mln8k-0nwg7gd8.le22p7zl
Fuck I just ran into this problem I’ve spent the past two hours following your videos and playing through over and over again just for this to happen 😂 any advice on how to follow the same route of the video with the ability to still get into the control room?
I finished the game and decided to try the locker combination run (normal difficulty) for fun, and got the screwdriver, shotgun and wheel in the first 20mins (luckily the combination was lesser than 2000). I'm planning to save up as many bullets, shotgun shells grenades and molotov cocktails as possible.
The first time I played this I dragged a barrel over instead of dropping a fuel can......wouldn't let me hit the switches. To be fair that ruins a huge chunk of the game.
The community has decided to update the ruleset for the glitchless category which this was a tutorial for, which means this is now classified as a 'no-major glitches' speedrun route. I might make an updated tutorial covering the *new* glitchless category but no guarantees
You can no longer jump on the barbed wire and flip the switches. No interaction pops up. And after already attaining the pliers and saving the Prisoner my saves were reset like I never got it at all. Ruining my experience.
I don't know if you still need this, but I found that using the stool found in the unlocked room in prison, you can pretty easily clip through the metal door, flip the switch, and unlock it to get out.
there was a patch for the game earlier this month that fixed that part of the run. Most no major glitches runs are down using a downpatched version through steam, but you could check the glitchless category runs on a route that still gets the wrench in maintenance - www.speedrun.com/atb?h=Any_Restricted-Glitchless&x=w20mln8k-0nwg7gd8.q5vvdjnl
One thing you can do, and I think I might be the first to come up with this "strat", is to play through the intro purposely. By doing this you can assign the grenade to a button before the run itself. now you don't get to keep the grenades from the intro, but it does save the button assignment for the next grenade picked up. On PC this may only save a couple frames, but on controller for XBox One like I am doing, opening the inventory and navigating it is much slower so it could save an entire second or 2 to not have to manually assign it. So if the run becomes even more optimized over time, this is a decent time save to consider. I don't know if this is allowed, or if using the intro to affect the run would require the intro to be counted in the timing too?
Yeah, looking at how fast you can bind items to buttons on PC it may be useless. But on console its pretty slow so it might help. I did try this on stream and got a 17-minute run (according to the end game stat screen), which includes the time when loading as well, which is significantly slower on console, especially since I'm on the OG XBONE, so the time might be around 15ish minutes without the long loads. I also got a "13-minute" run after that, it took me 45 minutes to actually get that run finished because so much went wrong, and then the game crashed in Arsenal, so I ended up with a glitch where the game only counted the time it was on for after I reloaded the game, which made it much shorter on the stat screen. Because apparently XBONE doesn't save your game outside the save file, so every time I boot up the game it will think it's a first time boot up and make me redo all the options and won't let me skip intro if I New Game. I don't think this is an issue on the current consoles and may just be last-gen issues. But this gave me a huge "time save" and made it appear like I got a great time on my "first" playthrough. lol
yeah it would start the timer at the tutorial if you did this. typically setting up stuff before a run starts is not allowed or just becomes a different category. it is an interesting idea though ill give you that
@@BloodThunder makes sense. Due to the weird glitch that resets the main menu every time for me, I ended up having to play through the intro a lot. I've optimized it fairly decently and that was something I noticed. Btw, if I wanted to contact Frictional about the game not saving my menu stuff, as well as the achievement for all notes not working, where's the best place to do that? Been bugging me.
@@RabDaxmanGames Really? Wow, it really didn't seem like it wasn't intentional. Especially with the whole schtick of "try anything you think will work and it will" or whatever the game says at the beginning.
12:45 Wouldn't this classify as a glitch? You're flipping the switch in the unintended way. Where you could question save loading, doing that skips a lot of the game. When I did a speedrun of this game, I got a time of 31:40 without glitches or save loading.
@@BloodThunder I mean, how I see it, it's basically just prop clipping but instead of going through a door you prop climb. I could be wrong on this but I thought glitchless speedruns didn't skip intended areas of a game. You normally cant flip any of those switches without opening the hatch much the same how you cant get through the door that leads to the administration office without shooting the lock. I feel like the strat could be questioned. Either way, I would like to see a run that involves going through maintenance and the strats that can be done there besides just running through rats and such.
@@BloodThunder I am assuming opinion has changed here. I recall seeing either this one or another being called "glitchless" now its "no major glitches"

I often find a grenade in the dead soldier's hand just outside the Arsenal
yup thats another spot to potentially find one!
Thank you for this awesome guide ! I'm definitely going to try and learn this ! Horror games are my fav to speedrun
This vid helped with beating the dev time, thanks! I never thought of reloading saves to cheese the codes
Just got the speed achievement thanks to this guide. Thanks for the strats 👍
SUPER GROOVY 👍🏼 👽👍🏼
One day I'll purchase this game & as soon as I finish a regular playthrough I'll use this guide homie. Muchas Gracias!
Thanks this will be very usefull !
16:50 is my time First try 👍
Pretty solid time, congrats!
When you jumped into the monster at the arsenal i just about had a heart attack, wth...
Dude thank you so much
No problem!

I can’t interact with the cell switches once I get on the window, I don’t know why

How is flipping the switch from the outside on the stool not considered "glitchless?" Genuinely asking.
its not a glitch just badly designed
Looks like you could just lean over and flip the switch if it were in real life
It's likely an intended strat from the developers too. Its hard to say but it doesn't glitch anything so it doesn't matter if its intended.
@@GBDupree This was patched today, so it clearly was not an intended strategy.

its unintended for sure but nothing about hitting that switch uses a glitch. jumping is base mechanic, and we're looking through an open window.
