Gungi Lightsaber Galaxy's Edge Unboxing Review

- I was rather disappointed with this hilt. I was not expecting this Gungi Lightsaber from Galaxy's Edge to feel so cheap compared to past sabers I got from Disney. No, I didn't expect much from Disney besides a solid build like past sabers. I just wasn't expecting it to feel plastic and cheap :(

I would have thought that the wooden part would've been well... wooden.
"Wood is expensive" - Disney
Wood will eventually degrade over time. And it's not as durable as metal or plastic.
@@ConcordiaJedi as a bladesmith who uses wooden handles, provided the wood is correctly treated it will far outlast plastic. the wood will degrade if left out in the rain or soaked in liquid. but unless drowning your lightsabers is a hobby of yours, the wood could last outlast YOU.
@@skilledsummoner4274 well you would think so. But it would have been more expensive to produce. Where wood is easy to work once you have the skill set it’s expensiv, very expensive and finding that person to do it hard and expensive too. Disney isn’t about spending money just making it. Like the dolly’s jedi saber placed in a cartoon to make money period. Dooku used his saber for years he would’ve just bled his crystal and went on. It makes zero sense to build a new hilt just cause you switch sides. Plus they already sell Dooku sabers for stupid money. I need one to complete a set but I’m not paying that for it. If Disney did a run of say limited numbered ones in wood people would snatch them up in pre order. And don’t get me started on pre orders especially on limited editions. People have little to no chance getting one like that
@@sw-gs lol the stuff i burn in my fireplace
You’re kinder than I am, Jon. That thing just doesn’t stack up compared to even low end TXQ or LGT sabers. Looks cheap, feels cheap, and has 1/10th the features of comparably priced competitors. It’s shocking to me that Disney hasn’t decided to lean into the market a little on these. They charge a premium for so many things, it’s crazy they don’t do the same with sabers and put out high quality, screen accurate replicas with modern technology.
They don’t need to. Anyone who watches these channels isn’t their target demographic. It’s people who are not really massive fans but like lightsabers cause who doesn’t and they buy it in the park. While I want them to massively improve their sabers, their targeting people who don’t know that neopixels even exist and probably don’t trust a 3rd party seller that isn’t licensed
@terradusk5603 Agreed. These are entry-level lightsabers for someone who wants to have a screen-accurate saber without spending $300+.
Disney sabers are the worst in the entire saber market. Just awful.
Yea you would think they would step there game up with all the competitor
Not really. Those cheap Chinese knockoffs some sites sell can actually be a fire hazard.
Are the Theory Knockoffs better?
Far better. He resells LGT/Nexus sabers, which are definitely better quality, assuming they've been installed competently@@Jetse_Dv
@@Jetse_Dvincredibly, because his sabers are made by lgt
Leonidas from Jawa’s Junkyard is contemplating another run of the Youngling v2. I was one of the lucky few who got in on the v2 run and I am so happy I did. It’s exquisitely done using real wood and engraved metal with in world accurate chassis.
Gonna have to look in to that.
Honestly my favourite saber release, sad I didn't get one
@@jw5425I own the JJ Youngling hilt, I can attest it is not 3D printed plastic and is in fact metal. You are mistaken.
The sound of you touching it at 2:45 makes my skin crawl. I was probably never going to get it, but now I will not even having an hard time ignoring it.
It could have been my first lightsaber, had it been wood.
I was thinking the same thing! He picked it up and my face dropped just as quickly as his the moment I heard his finger slide across the cheap plastic. Didn't even need to feel it to know it was trash quality. And the closeups of where the plastic and metal connect looks like the quality you'd expect from a toddler's toy. That price is downright criminal. It's honestly surprising that emitter's actually metal, given how little effort they put into the rest of the piece.
Thank you for the invaluable service you provide. I've been dreaming about this saber for a while, and I know at least one place (Ultrasabers) does the hilt right. But I won't waste my time or money on Disney's version. Hopefully this kicks off the other merchants selling a proper Brylark soon!!!
Disney is really behind the times. They have the license, so they should be forward thinking and showing how it's done, not using decades old tech like that. Even if they gave vendors use to make lightsabers under a licensing agreement, they could have so much better.
cant wait my 1st ever saber is being delievered in 6 days from vader sabers its the anakin SE which i put some things on like the belt clip im so excited!
Not sure how you feel about buying lightsabers from the community but jawas Junkyard does make an gungi hilt which is most likely much better quality than that. However you do need to get it installed by a private installer in the community which prices and quality can vary depending on who you go to.
JJ is actually going to do another run of them. They have an order form posted on their facebook page.
nice, too bad it isn't actual wood^^
btw, your displays in the background, where you pute collectibles in, where did you get them please?
IKEA but they have been discontinued sadly
Yeah, buyers remorse is real. I do hate that feeling. On the graflex side of things i successfully upgraded my Galaxy edge to a neopixel with gvh3... pretty sick. Love the GE GRAFLEX. as for Gungi's... maybe transfer the metal bits over to an old school wooden pepper grinder?
Would love to see how you weathered it a bit from your pics IG and what you used to do it
I didn’t film it. Used a black wash on the metal emitter then shadowing and heat stains with airbrush
@ looks fantastic amazing job
You should check out Jawas Junkyard for a Gungi saber their doing another run 🤙🏻
I have an entire 30” blade neopixel saber that weighs under 1lb
Reys must be hell to swing
I'm not surprised that Disney didn't go with real wood. Manufacturing costs would probably be astronomical, because Disney doesn't sell wooden stuff often, so it would need a whole set of machinery just for this one hilt. Also, it would be weird to have wood made out of metal... so probably they could have gone just with heavier, better quality fake-wood plastic...
needs to do top 10 best ones you have bought (own) or can buy .
When the Lightsaber rolls away at 3:32 you can hear and see how cheap that outer shell is. Sounds like flimsy plastic. What a shame.
Wow. i love Gungi .i like the design a lot .i remember the scene.. it should be as Rey`s saber is . I have Rey`s saber . looks like they designed it for little kids ..hope they make another ..maybe if alive .we will a live action Gungi & and updated saber .. i do love the design of it
Ive got two questions, you say that is the cheapest feeling saber that you have ever gotten is that becuse it has plastic body compared to the metal ones or does that have to do with the quality of the plastic?
Secondly you said its not worth the money you spent on it becuse the wooden body is made out of plastic compared to the similar design "wooden" one from artsabers, which cost almost twice as much, does the price difference between the effect that judgement or was that not considered?
Cheapest as in the feel and build of it. I don’t have 1 lights that feels like I just went to Target and picked it up in the toy sections. If you want to talk price and quality of electronics? This cost my about $200. A blade I think runs $55? So you are looking at $255-$275ish? Awful blade, 1 sound font with limited sounds and effect.
You can get an Anakin episode 3 SE SNV4 pro with almost 30 sound fonts, phone app, blade effect, downloaded blade effect, with a blade and stand for $289.
@TheCollectorsOutpost Thanks for the response, but it feels like the specific questions I asked weren't answered. I get that it feels like a toy compared to your other sabers but is that is that because of the weight of the saber or particular plastic it's made of? I know you're a fan of the black series helmets and those are toys that you can grab in the toy aisle at target.
In terms of specifically comparing the prices between the Gungi legacy saber (priced at $159) and the Elemental Nature Neo Pixel Lightsaber from artsabers (priced at $277) since you did compare them in the video, do you think that price difference should factor into what people should expect?
The plastic makes it feel of a much lower build quality from all past Disney sabers I have owned. Gaps where the handle metal the metal parts they look like it was just snapped together. Just Feels super cheap and not sure how else to put that.
As for the weight I have said in many videos, weight has nothing to do with “build quality” or lets say “craftsmanship” of an item as they are 2 completely different things BUT many people take the weight in to consideration when they think of quality or how solid something feels. Disneys Luke lightsaber, looks beautiful and well made, but very light weight.
Showing the Artsabers Elemental Nature was simply to show that the woodgrain is just as easily replicated with a metal base and pretty much at the same weight and they could have made the Gungi hilt feel better in the hand.
If you brake them both down to (ONLY the hilt) and no electronics the manufacturing of the hilt of both would pretty much be identical. So no I don't think price is a factor of the material used.
I'm waiting for the Jawa's Junkyard version. This sucks.
Yeah I’ll have to check that out as well.
I can just hear Harvey Keitel saying "I have Oak myself that's what I have in my room. How bout you John? Are you an Oak Man?"
Oak’s nice…
I really wanted to buy this one, but I don't think the quality is worth the price.
Yeah… I’m rather disappointed. Not that I ever loved Disney sabers but they have always been build with a super solid feel tho so are to heavy. I think this easily could have been aluminum and still kept the weight down.
Ugh. A ripoff at HALF the price. Booo!
The shape of this handle seems so impractical for fighting to me. Just with a bulky top and thin bottom like that, I can easily imagine this thing slipping out of your hands with any hefty swing if you're not careful.
Never mind. You just made my point near the end of the video XD
the fact it's plastic instead of wood is such a major letdown, what's the point of a Gungi saber if its not wood??? especially for the prices Disney charges and compared to their others. at least it does look quite cool
Well I didn’t expect it to be wood as wood does tend to warp overtime. But like the other inspired version I showed next to it that was made of metal with a wood print was what I was at least expecting. Nothing less than at least that.
The saber looks as cheap as the series so I'd say its a pretty good replica!
It's a nice design but the build quality and materials are sad. Like something from Target. Disney really needs to up their game to compete with all the other saber makers.
Yep agreed.
Disney won’t as it’s a theme park product and mass produced sad part is these use to cost $110 back when SWGE first opened kinda miss those prices
Yeah i think the firsts ones I got a few years back were around $119ish if I remember right. Price went up fast and I’m sure will keep going up. Sad really. They could do an elite line of sabers in limited run and be 100% screen accurate but they won’t.
@@TheCollectorsOutpost I don't know the validity of the story, but I've heard that Disney made the Acolyte sabers so fat so their electronics packages would fit in the Park sold replicas.
Your disappointed reaction to the hilt is how I feel every time I decide to get one of Disney's, in the hopes they are better. It's always a disappointment. 😞 I do love Gungi's hilt, I hope the neopixel companies come out with it soon!
Yeah I hope one of them give a try at this one as well.
ultrasabers just came out with that one with actual wood the brylark. it also has a new blade option with the rebels style blades or the standards.. i honestly think that galaxies edge stuff even though officially licensed products but are overpriced and other saber smiths do a better job. even ultrasabers knocked this one out of the park.
First time watching the channel and I can spot that face of disappointment from a mile out. Good content regardless
Truly sad. Cant wait for 89 sabers or sabertrio to incorporate a wooden hilt section properly
I worry about real wood due to warping over time.
Awesome lightsaber Jon🐉
You have earned subscribber
I feel like it would be different if the hilt was going to be made out of wood instead of cheap plastic
Wood is tricky because it warps over time.
A good review, Obi dad Kenobi is buyest
Just like Disney multi billion company with unlimited technology at their fingertips but still falling short for the fans which is such a shame good review mate 🤙🏻
What’s funny to me is that, they do need to do anything, just put basic xeno cores with a single sound font installed. Simple smooth swing and clashes alone will up the game of Disney sabers and not even cost an extra cent. There’s so much out there today. And Disney pricing is getting up there. $159 for just the hilt, $55 for a blade or like $250 for the combo hilt, blade and stand? Plus tax, plus shipping or plus $109 for a Disney park ticket? It’s crazy.
I don't think the plastic hilt is necessarily bad, as wood tends to be warmer to the touch than metal, but maybe a thicker, textured plastic would make it feel more premium?
im like 95% gungi is what greedo says to han solo that one time
Cal Kestis Jedi Survivor is Beefy @3.5lbs!
Cool, but not really. I'm going to wait for one of the others to make one.
Yeah I feel you on that. I’m hoping someone like TXQ gives this one a go at someone point.
Galaxy's Edge is the largest cash grab in Disney history
I would rather have it made with real wood.
It so needs a wash. The metal is like a weird shade of grey it just looks I’m sorry, cheap they missed an opportunity to make it amazing
yea I avoid GE sabers like the plague, not worth the premium markup on sub par blades you cant even USE most times without fear of them just breaking the heck down.
Anyone ever tell you
You look like Jason momoas half brother 😊
Yes in some way or another I have heard it many times. I don’t hate it! 😂
The think I hate about modern sabers. They have made them so egregiously thick. Eve farther mails saber wasn't this wide. Just looking back at sabers from clonewars, the prequels or the originals. They are half the width of these things. It looks ridiculous. Like.. this is as thick as pomkrells double saber ... and it's meant for a more or less regularly sized humanoid
If they would just upgrade to an RGB and a decent bord they would be closer to their price point on these sabers. They just keep asking higher prices and providing bad experiences. Their wiring is atrocious and weak
its not cheap btw. the thumbnail is false information
I guess you pay for what you get.
They mass produce these so oh well.
Time to carve some wood and do a transplant
Hahah
bruh....Its wood......
Oooooof I guess loosing billions on all the crap movies/tv shows/ hotel has made a mark on the old pocketbook ..... Idk man smh asoon as you realized what was up when I opened that box ... U looked big mad 'i would be 2' I could see it on your face
on video, even the metal looks like cheap toy plastic.
I feel like that about all the build your own lightsaber parts at the park. It’s metal but all looks like plastic molded parts. And they charge you over $300
So it's basically a glorified flash light... sorry bro.
If they used real wood, it would obviously weigh more and justify the price tag.
I'd return it and get a refund
I would genuinely return that. I know you are reviewing it but that is a terrible product.
it's defective return it and stop copium about it.
Yea... Not worth it.
Galaxy’s edge savers are such hot garbage.
hideous lmao. triple a batteries, plastic
👎🏻
Yo man can I get your Instagram page if you have one of posting pictures of sabers please?
