If you don't mind, like to add one bit of info. I own the kit & I was getting about 1 in 10 light strikes (no firing of the round), I called cmmg tech. They are great. IF YOUR AR HAMMER IS NOTCHED (look it up) you may get light strikes. Change the hammer to non notched (and change to the proper hammer spring) and fix the issue. The notched hammer is one of several changes from m-16 to ar-15 that make the conversion of ar-15 to autofire m-16 more difficult. Froggy.
I'm about to build a dedicated upper and I already have the CMMG bolt, so 5:30 is exactly what I needed to see. I can't believe how easy it is to switch out the original part for the barrel collar. Thanks!
I just finally installed my CMMG barrel and bolt into a Centurion upper and handguard. I'm blown away with how fun it was. It was eating all ammo I fed it after I lubed up the bolt with my homebrew synthetic oil and grease mixture. So much fun!
That’s cool. Have you tried to find out what Ammo it groups better with. I’m curious if Your CMMG barrel is different than mine. They aren’t bench shooters for competition but they can put a bullet in a raccoon at 100 yards.
@@garzaoutdoorsproductions I haven't been able to do a good accuracy test yet. The CCI mini mag was the best so far on the little bit of accuracy I did. The only ammo I had trouble with was some really old federal copper jacket, but it had some patina on it, and I think that's why. I'll update you once I get my big ammo order in and do a real accuracy test
Awesome video I was having trouble with finding info on the bolt. I have a few cmmg bolts, but was not sure if I had to get a different one for the barrel. The adapter is now good configuration that I don’t. Thank you and god bless.
@Garza Outdoors Productions Thanks, I think 1 of the best video’s out there talking in detail about the dedicated barrel and the conversion bolt with the proper adapter. Mine works great with any of the high dollar ammo, CCI Mini Mags, Winchester 40 gr Power Point Copper Plated (Small Game), etc… Remington Golden Bullet as well as some of the other reputable ones are hit and miss. What I’ve discovered is that if I can twist the projectile in the case (even the slightest) there is a VERY good chance that the round will jam. It looks like as that as the round is traveling up the feed ramp, when it contacts the opening of the barrel 180˚from the feed ramp the portion of the round between the bullet nose and ahead of the case digs into the barrel pealing back some lead and cocking the projectile in the case. I similarly had this problem with the 5.56 adapter in the same BCG but not nearly as often. Any suggestions or advice?
In my experience, I have noticed that the magazine is causing the issue with the round not going properly into the chamber. CMMG 22 magazines are bad if you are leaning on sandbags. You have to make sure that they are not in contact with anything. I haven’t had much problem after taking that precaution. Although I had some old Winchesters that the lead had a little green corrosion on them and would not feed right. Now I am sticking primarily to new and good stuff to run through it. @@clintmullins8670 You know to be totally honest, I haven’t even thought about running the black dog magazine because CMMGs are working so well. What I do like about the Smith and Wesson magazines is that they have the ability to slide the spring down while you load your ammo. Which takes a lot of the finger fatigue away while loading ammo. If I ever run into a good deal on the Smith and Wesson with adapter I will consider those. For now as long as mine are working good or perhaps until they were out then I’ll stick to CMMG.

Thanks for the video. Lots of great info. I decided to do a build just like yours but I'm using the 17" CMMG medium tapered barrel 22DC380. I ordered an CMMG adapter collar from optic planet and on the underside of collar about 3mm forward of the ramp is what looks like a pin that engages the grove in the chamber portion of the barrel. It looks like it kinda snaps in the grove. I noticed bore buddy collars have a set screw instead. Did you have any problems with the collar coming off the barrel during detenation? Set screw design seems more secure.
Thats the same barrel I used. They call it a 16" but its really 17. I used the CMMG conversion and adapter collar also. I also added a Better Mag adapter which makes it so you can use the S&W 15/22 magazines and all your last round hold will work just like its supposed to. Also you can pull your magazine and the bolt is locked open, slap in a new mag, and hit the bolt release and its good to go. The next thing I did was install a bore buddy premium weight kit. This allows you to tune the bolt for the power of the bullet you want to use. I have mine set up for 1200 to 1300fps bullets. Your collar coming lose will be from the bolt bounce you get from the weight not being tuned to the bullets you are shooting. The way I am set up now, I get very few malfunctions no matter how hard I run it. I have run 1000 rounds of every kind of ammo brand that people buy. Mostly the cheap shit, and I might get 1 or 2 malfunctions which are mostly fail to fire and ammo related. I can say that my gun is every bit as accurate as @garzaoutdoorsproductions. Accuracy with dependability is what you want. 👍👍
I checked the seating before installing them on the DPMS lower and I didn’t see any gap between the adapter and the barrel. Many times when you do have a gap you will see evidence on the casing where they blow up (bulge) or crack at the base of the ejected shell. I hope it’s not something that will show up later but I’ll keep an eye out for it.
FYI I just got back from the range here at the ranch. I was sighting in a new scope for the AR 22 with the CMMG barrel. It’s still likes the mini mag target ammo 1235 ft./s. With a 50 yard zero I’m good at 25 and 50. At 100 yards I am three mill dots low at 12X. Happy hunting.
I’m looking at the Cmmg 22 choices , whether to go with just the conversion kit or to go with the bolt and dedicated barrel. What kind of accuracy did you get with just the conversion unit at 50 yards . The 1.5” group @ 50yrds from this video with the dedicated barrel seems a little big itself . Have you gotten smaller groups with the new dedicated barrel ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just to many choices
As you can see in the video (although I didn’t take very many shots) I can hit a quarter at 50 yards, and definitely hit a raccoon at 100. The key is finding the ammo that your gun prefers with the tightest groups. I had absolutely no luck with just a conversion kit. I tried that conversion kit using the original 223 barrel or 5.56 barrel in about seven different rifles with different twist and it just didn’t work. Trust me it’s not worth the frustration if you want accuracy. If you’re just trying to hit a 5 inch target at 25 to 50 yes it’s a quick and easy conversion.

Using a single shot is very slow , so I would like best accuracy I can say 1”-1 1/4” @ 100 would be what I would like. I recently shot a 10/22 nice rifle HORRIBLE trigger. For $400 bucks to build a dedicated upper I may end up going with a bolt action but would REALLY like a semi . Decisions decisions sigh
Although I didn’t show it in the video because it would have been too long. I tried several of my AR 223, with different 22 ammo from different manufactures, and weights. None of them would pattern any good, not compared to the dedicated bull barrel. It’s not a tack driver, And you’re not gonna win any competitions with it. Although it can hit a quarter at 50 yards and probably a $.50 piece at 100 yards, but I consider it an advantage to walk around with a AR15 platform in 22 caliber when hunting raccoons. I asked myself that same question. So I did the research and found out that it would actually work better on a 223 barrel without doing the 22 barrel conversion. The problem that you run into is that the 22 magnum has a lot more power requiring a lot stiffer spring. In other words, more weight on the bolt , and to my knowledge no they do not have a conversion yet, although I have seen some 17 HMR that people were toying around with.
No offense, but all this information I already found doing my own research. And also I have a 1 7 twist short barrel that I shoot 22 with. And I got the bore buddy upgrade kit to help with reliability. The thing group's almost the size of a quarter. But then again I'm only shooting 50 to 100 yards. Don't agree with you needing to change the barrel. Also your gun should shoot any 22lr. Seems like some of yall sure are nit picky with your guns lol...
@@ClearWater7.62 No I don't think it will improve accuracy, but it will improve how well it cycles and prevent possible jams. With practice have also found that ammo is definitely very important. I shoot nothing but high velocity 22lr. And it works very well with that. But some ammo can have strike failures, so make sure you have good quality, and well kept ammo

The maintenance is even easier to clean out the old burned out 22 powder residue. A whole lot easier than a Ruger 1022 or a marlin.

Wherever you buy your barrel. Make sure you ask them to send you the adapter that connects between the barrel and the CMMG conversion kit.

How about the black dog mags? Also I've heard of people getting the adapter to run m&p 15-22 mags in the cmmg

Set screw design seems more secure.
I’ve never had any problem with mine and I’ve never heard of a set screw on that collar.

Did you try CCI Quiet 22's out of your AR with the conversion kit ? The slower velocity rounds tend to stabilize better in the faster twist rates .
No I didn’t. I just can’t find enough variety to run additional tests. That and the fact the the CCI Standard velocity works fantastic.
Iraqvet8888 says there's also a gap between the bolt and barrel. Is this still the case when upgrading to this new barrel?

What you mean is 1:10, 1:7, 1:9, 1:8 are TOO MUCH twist for a light bullet. 1:16 is a LESSER twist rate. :)

Lately I have not been able to find the ammo that my rifle prefers. That’s why I’m getting 1.5 inches at 50 yards.

Is it obviously more accurate that shooting from a 223 barrel? I just started building one from spare parts.

Does the kit you used improve in accuracy? I have the cmmg bcg and my groupings isn't consistent.

Ccmg 22lr likes 36 grain jacketed rounds. Mine really prefers armscor 22lr hollow points.
I haven’t tried those. But then again there’s a lot of ammo that I haven’t tried because it’s not available.
