      the buying power of the rands is weak! R850K=P600K=$57K (USD)
      its the same value as any other bakkie and itself before, just a higher number! the problem is the government is not increasing wages to balance out the inflation!
      and you dont need to go for the max spec! just get a raider for R500K and be done with it!
      THIS IS A HIGH SPEC HILUX, ITS GOT THINGS ON IT THAT BRING THAT PRICE TAG UP!
      if the merc came back, because of the inflation it would cost 1.1 million rand but be the same value u understand?

    People complaining about R850K, it's not just that manufacturers are greedy. The buying power of the rand just sucks. It's the same with electronics e.g. computer components. The new gaming consoles that are launching now are going to be more than R10K, which would've seemed crazy even a few short years ago. Most people's salaries have stagnated or even dropped so I get that it hurts - we're effectively poorer than we were even a year ago. It's just not explained by manufacturer greed.

    • @nkgudih
      @nkgudih 3 года назад +5

      Wait until they introduce 90 months to pay and will more of this on the road. Unfortunately, in South Africa, people are only interested in installment affordability. And that will work in cars like Hilux because they offer the best resale value.True rand value, and just look at the price of smartphones, u could by a car for the price. We are screwed but we dont learn.

      While the rand is indeed shitty, I did check a similarly specced Hilux from the UK Toyota site and it costs £40395 which at current exchange rate works out to roughly R816000 which is still just as ridiculous as the SA full price, cars are just growing hyper expensive all around

      Upgraded suspension, cruise control, Bose sound system with Android Auto, Electric roller shutter etc. That's basically a bakkie shaped SUV!!!

      @alvinsimba734 3 года назад

      @@braalo07 FORD means fix or repair daily after the warranty ends plus it got turbo engine which means more problems and expensive fix down the road. As for the pricing, the hilux is where it should be due to its durability and resale value. It's just the wages have been stagnant and now with this pandemic it doesn't help either. Best thing to do is buy the hilux end of 2021 as the dealers are focused on getting the 2022s on the lot due to discounts and other rebates

    Its not an easy assessment watching someone driving up and down sand dunes. It certainly does look handsome by comparison with other Toyota models, though. There's so much to choose from these days with very little significant differences between them. I rather prefer watching how the vehicle performs on the different surfaces like loose gravel and rutted roads and mud, which is what I'm most likely to encounter on South African roads. Plus a steep fuel price.

Toyota has been our favorite since childhood but nowadays its what value you get for the price you pay. Big manufacturers need to keep in mind that things changed, it changed due to economical factors at hand these days. 850K for something that has a 75% chance it will get stolen or highjacked is just not worth the price. One could buy a TOP-SPEC S11 Karoo and even a decent caravan with that and also have one mother of a fully paid vacation not even mentioning the money you would still have over after it all.

Bakkie manufacturers: too much plastic! if the GWM POER can look that awesome inside, you can try a bit harder especially regarding the plastics. Looking forward to an Ineos Grenadier review, with that 3L BMW diesel enjin as overlander (Engineered by Gwagon team, ground up built, only the tuned enjin from BMW makes sense from an environmental stand-point) Also looking forward to the 300 Landcruiser review. Price is heavy but ford ranger has too many gearbox issues..reliability is king and toyota knows that..but where u win at the end of the day is that the Toyota will ALWAYS hold more value and u will get better resale value if u ever need to sell..😉

    People will continuously but Hilux, the price won’t be an issue😂. Drove the facelift recently. It was noticeable more comfortable than it’s previous. However that black plastic on the side though... not sure how durable it is when you drive a lot of dirt road as the stones tend to scratch that into more nasty plastic 🤷🏻‍♂️🙈.

      the buying power of the rands is weak!

    Believe me, the company i have work for, has fleet of ford ranger in the past and they didnt hold reliability very well. It will suffer problems and problems everytime you have done repair one things. If u have car to be used only in 5 years life after new it wont be problems to buy ford but not for workhorse in rural area or construction area for more than 5 years
