- In today's episode of Tea Time with Tyrone, we demonstrate an alternative method to testing crank seals on your 2T engine, obviously it will not produce granular measurement data like a leak down tester, but for practical purposes this is an easier and cheaper way to see if your crank or other bottom end seals are leaking.
In this video we removed the stator of the engine to get a good view, ideally you would only have to remove the cover to see if any liquid is leaking.
We chose diesel as the liquid because its properties as a lubricant while also being less dense/thinner then oil. We would not advise using gasoline as it will evaporate oil that is on crank and bearings, Premix fuel would probably be ok too, motor oil definitely would not hurt the engine either, but a thinner liquid will be more revealing of leaks.
THIS IS INFORMATIVE ONLY AND ZERO GUARANTEES ARE MADE, PERFORM THIS TEST AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Feedback and test results welcomed.
