Before you Ride : WALES IN A DAY : The Brevet Cymru 400

The Brevet Audax is a traditional ride in Wales that has been held for more than 15 years.

The route is an out and back from Chepstow near the River Severn across to New Quay, South Wales. It's a route predominately taking place on quiet main roads with a few country lanes thrown in for good measure which you'll be riding during daylight hours. Throughout the ride you'll enjoy mostly good well surfaced roads (compared to England), you'll make good speed and if you have paced yourself correctly the road surface will not fatigue you in quite the same way as it would the other side of the border.
There is plenty of long climbs throughout, with a selection of punchy steep climbs especially as you reach the western edge of the route as you slow make your way to the Atlantic ocean. The most pleasant aspect of the ride I enjoyed is the ride either side of Llandovery as you make your way to the cafe/control point of the West End Cafe in both directions.
A hilly recommended, well attended audax.
