It is the BEST fragrance ever..........................PdE Ambre is in my forever keep collection. Is a so boozy and dark fruit the champagne really comes through in the opening. The like the spice combo of cumin & coriander, This frag just works Beautifully on me.
Never had my nose on this... I have Cuir Ottoman and really like that one and it is VERY Iris heavy... Thanks for not editing out that little banter before the normal opening... Nice to see... ^_^ I may have to try this one out because I am a fan of ambers and this really sounds like an unusual one but as we are getting to Spring now there really is no rush at this point... Glad to see you back...

Welcome back! May I recommend Baldessarini by Hugo Boss. Luca Turin gave this frag 4 stars. It is listed in Fragrantica under Hugo, but the brand has their own line, also in Fragrantica, from which I also own Strictly Private. Both are approx 50 dollars Australian.

i'm really big fan of the brand and of this scent. amazing for the colder months, this a really nice, edgy smelling fragrance. i tend to think of this as a "devil may care dirty, boozy amber"
The Bros are back, with a powerhouse of a scent! Ambre Russe is awesome, but BIG, and I would put it on the slightly masculine side. BTW, PdE has a sampling program, and it's possible to purchase a set of all their scents at once from their website. I'm with lots of commenters who like Cuir Ottoman and Equistrius. I think you were both right about where Ambergris is expelled from. It comes out both ends dependent on the size of the lump of ambergris. Super large and it comes out the mouth, more managable and it comes out in fecal matter at the other end! Oh the joys of perfumery! :0)
I'm reading a book called Floating Gold that talks about ambergris. The author went into detail about how it's a byproduct of the intestinal tract. Really cool book. I'm going to do a review of it soon. :)
I'm with you Dave! 5/5. Magnificent winter scent. Dates, formal, party. It's way too dirty with the underlying cumin and incense to be feminine. Give it another go and look for all the notes dirtying up the sweet vanilla and amber all they way to the end.

Parfum d'Empire is a great house, hard to beat that quality/price range. Ambre Russe is a really nice amber that has to be try by every amber lover. Myself, from PdE, i prefer Cuir Ottoman, one of the best leather around.

The notes alone sound divine, like a boozier, manlier SDV with amber(gris).

Agree with Daver on this one 100%. Definitely masculine. As an ex alcoholic, lol a couple of things. Russia is really just associated with vodka not whiskey (caviar too). And like In the drinking world, vodka is sort of thought of as a girl's liquor. Whiskey, cognac, gin etc is for men. Great review bros. Love this fragrance.

I'm surprised you didn't mention tobacco. I think there is tobacco in this fragrance.
it's funny that you mention that, because i forgot to mention that i get a pipe tobacco smell from this. there's no tobacco listed in the notes, but i do smell a nice spiced pipe tobacco in there.
I too get raisins when this dries down. Nice to know I'm not crazy.

Sorry to come back so late with a reply. I also get an olive nite but it's a bit off center. To my nose it's akin to a ghost-like ghost note. And the hay you mentioned appears when I'm done sniffing and trying to smell. I can't confirm whether or not my nose detects caramel but I do pick up something sweet much like warmed sugar. I generally don't get much note separation because my nose smells things more cinematically whereas I see imagery when I smell a fragrance somewhat like sitting thru a feature film. Again, please forgive my super late response. And thanks for the content. I look forward to your reviews as new fragrance purchase inspirations.
Vodka smells like alcohol which is why people say it has no distinctive smell. So, they're both right.

God, I miss that chorus from the bros. :-) Yeah, SUPER beast mode for me too on the longevity. I'm with Daver on this: totally masculine, very manly. Definitely wear this ONLY on cold weather. I already told ManLovesCologne and Redolessence about my "adventure" on this fragrance while watching "Anna Karenina" -- tea, vodka, leather, tobacco. A great representation of the opulence of the great Old Russia at the time of the Czars and Emperors. I agree with the bros here, it's ironic but it seems only the wearer loves this scent.
There's one other perfume that I can compare Ambre Russe and that's Ambre Sultan by Serge Lutens, which is also a beast on longevity. But I like Ambre Russe better because of its character, more refined, you will really feel elegant and respectable. Ambre Sultan on the other hand, is a bit raw, in-your-face, resinous smoky, and ends up a bit "stinky" sometimes and headache-inducing sometimes. A drawn picture of a skunk keeps popping on my mind with a drawn trailing smoke behind it....

Been really interested in this stuff for a long time. I really think it'll be my kinda thing, but i'm trying to cut down on the blind buys. I'll probably give in eventually. Like you say, it's reasonably priced.

To me the smells of russia, in no particular order are: vodka, sauerkraut, pickles, and unwashed armpits. If this frag lives up to the russian part of its name, I'll pass :)
