This is an awesome hack! I hardly go camping but I always look out for and upgrade my lanterns as it's the best feeling having the best light around when needed haha. I might have to follow your hack see if I can do it too!
I wonder, you said the board inside this has a phantom load which I do understand. I'm wondering though, was it designed that way, and if so, why? Just hoping for an explanation because I don't understand.
Question, why not install an 18 650 charge, discharge protection module instead of the connector? That way you'd be able to use a cell phone charger with it. Just wondering.
Nice modification! How did you solder the connector onto the terminals in the battery compartment? Maybe it's just me but I always have a nightmare of a time trying and I usually just end up bypassing the battery compartment and soldering directly to the circuit board?! Thanks
