This album is, imo, one of the best produced and engineered albums of all time. As an audio engineer, I always recommend this album, among others, to use when breaking in new reference monitors.
The more I'm getting into audio engineering for my own stuff the more im realizing how great the mixing is on this. They had crazy recording methods too. Off the Wall as well. Good stuff all around.
God the way at 3:33 the synths and beat create like harmonizing sound that sounds so heaven-like, don’t know how to explain it, makes me feel and see Michael singing in the background looking out at the galaxy
Instead of getting away with the bare minimum with new technology to cut as many corners, they took as many corners as they could to create a masterpiece
Not to be a history nerd, but for most of history, music was all instrumental with no singer, then when singers started joining orchestras they were "featured", they were not the star. So in the 1980s, pop singers were still relatively new, and the emphasis was still on the instrumental. Today, the instrumental is an after thought.
I love the funky chords and some of those hollow-sounding synth bits. Also, MJ's voice sampled through a E-MU emulator is also magical. I get an atmosphere lol
It's amazing to see the quality of Quincy Jones' creation of various rhythms and sounds. El is an all-time music history genius! And Thriller is a masterpiece!

the sad thing about this is they were gonna leave this song off the album for some stupid reason thank god it wasent left off probably the best song on the album and the beat is amazing
Where did you hear that? I thought that Quincy Jones passed on the demo version written by Michael Jackson and Greg Phillinganes but wrote a totally new song with James Ingram and kept the title.

I’ve been trying to figure this out for decades. It’s James Ingram’s vocals but I can NOT hear what he is saying. I always thought he was repeating certain words MJ was singing in the pre chorus 😩
song is so beautifully produced, way ahead of its time.
Actually, it sounds exactly like the era it came from. I think the term you meant to use was "timeless."
I love the 80s style production with all the synth bass. Quincy jones is a master!
Janet Jackson is the one singing "Nah, Nah, Nah" in the background.
@@michaelfaragher6090 Madonna and Shep Pettibone heavily used synth bass too, like in "cherish" beautiful sound from that MKS-80 Super Jupiter

Sometimes it's nice to just listen to the instrumentals. What a legend!!!
Totally!
To be fair, MJ himself didn’t have much at all to do w this instrumental
Das meiste hat Quincy Jones Komponiert.
God the way at 3:33 the synths and beat create like harmonizing sound that sounds so heaven-like, don’t know how to explain it, makes me feel and see Michael singing in the background looking out at the galaxy
I also love such passages, where the music becomes very emotional. The na-na-na part in man in the mirror is one of my favorites
*_The iconic thriller album synth sound_*
I always thought that was Michaels voice at 3:33, sounds like-- and my heart........ turns out it was a synth :-) , you find that a lot with music
the PYT & TLC are sung through a vocoder with reverb, playing chords that are in high registers. so yeah it sounds crystalline & heavenly
@Triplex HD don't use GOD'S name in vain
I’ve noticed many songs produced in the 80s have awesome instrumentals

the guitar twanging sorta noise at 2:27 just sounds so great, I notice it every time
Although there is a lot of synth bass in this song, what you are referring to is, to me, not synth, it's a real bass guitar with funkyness set to max.
The bass is great in that section too!
Man… the detail in this song is so beyond next level. Like every second is packed with immense energy and detail just like what you point to
and we can't unhear it we thank you
I really love when some background vocals are kept in instrumentals, it really adds to it. 💕💕
