  • Five ways to spot a bad coach.
Unfortunately, in the MMA industry, this is actually pretty prevalent. There’s a lot of people that think they know a whole lot more than they actually know. Here are the five ways that you’ll be able to tell if the coach you’re working with is the right one.
    1) they won’t allow you to learn from any other coaches and believe they know everything that you need to know.
    2) they beat the crap out of their students. All the time to prove how good they are, and how much they know.
    3) they try to steal the spotlight. When anybody is watching or in an interview they try to make everything about them. This is a really bad sign.
    4) they never competed. There’s some exceptions to this rule but for the most part coaches that haven’t competed don’t know anything about competing. They also know that they don’t know very much so they’ll be insecure about that and then that will leak out all over the place, resulting in numbers one through three.
    5) they are out of shape. if you’re a really good coach, you’re on the mats, experimenting and learning and evolving your knowledge. There is some exceptions there’s some reasons why sometimes in we get injured and that leads to us getting out of shape but overall if you’re coaching MMA and you’re obese that’s a pretty big red flag.

As I was waiting in the bullpen at the PANs for my 1st fight, my professor asked me, “are you ready to lose?” Like it’s a forgone conclusion. Afterwards, I went to tournaments on my own. Sometimes I wouldn’t tell anyone at the gym. I regret staying there as long as I did.
