Uncle Buck (John Candy) takes the kids to school in his sweet ride.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
In this cheerful, lightweight comedy, excruciatingly clumsy, disorganized, and messy Uncle Buck Russell (John Candy) becomes the screens most unlikely babysitter since Clifton Webb in Sitting Pretty. While their parents are away, eight-year old Miles (Macaulay Culkin), six-year old Maizy (Gaby Hoffman) and their teen-aged sister, Tia (Jean Kelly) are left in the care of Buck. Surprisingly, the very inept Uncle Buck entertains the younger children who come to love him and earns the respect of Tia when he rescues her from her worthless boyfriend. However, in doing so, Buck nearly loses his long-time girlfriend Chanice (Amy Madigan). John Candy is delightful in the leading role giving a touching and notable comic performance. Directed by John Hughes in his typical broad style, this youth-oriented comedy is perhaps the best role of John Candy's regrettably brief career.

What I miss about films today, a movie like this is simple, guy watches brothers kids, Tia doesn’t like him, by the end he proves good for Tia and for his girlfriend Chanice, a role seemingly written for John Candy, it’s like he is playing himself

Uncle Buck was a horrible person. He did some really screwed up things, like telling a drunk clown to get back in his car and be out on the road driving drunk again, assaulting that same clown just over some words instead of just interrupting him and telling him he'll call him a cab to take him home, and then kidnapping and assaulting some teenager instead of leaving him be, and that niece of Uncle Buck ended up being just as bad as her Uncle Buck there.

I love EVERYTHING about this movie. That car is perfect. No shocks, the door pull is broken on the passenger's side, it belches copious amounts of exhaust, the upholstery is torn, it's filthy. Just perfect.

They're probably the same people who would get angered by Buck's hat.
The one thing this clip misses is that, in the moments before Buck's car makes its entrance with that swingy beat, there's a different beat going, for the high school kids. It switches instantly to the Buckmobile music, letting you know that there's a new guy in town, Buck and his car are here, big as life.

I love Uncle Buck. John Candy was perfect for the role. Love that classic 1977 Mercury Maquis Brogham. Classic car. When I'm 40 I want to drive around in a car like that with the shitty exhaust and everything and be Uncle Buck and smoke cigars just like Uncle Buck and make my money down at the dog tracks just like Uncle Buck. Uncle Buck is my idol in life.

I was born in 1994; five years after this film came out and the year John Candy passed away. It sucks his career was tragically cut short. He was a true comedy legend.
The first movie I ever saw him was the Blues Brothers in 1980 and then Stripes with Bill Murray in 1981

All the oil in the shocks has leaked out due to wear, therefore there is no suspension dampening left, just out of control springs, up and down, boing boing.
I had a 1971 Pontiac LeMans like that. Only when it bounced the springs brayed like a donkey.

The 80's was a golden age, I know. I was there.
A lot of 80's kids wanted to dress older & futuristic from their hippie parents 20 years prior.
New Wave, techno, metal, ska, and a few bright colors off pop music. No internet, no smart phones.
It's a movie, not a reflection of how people dressed back then. I can show you yearbooks and it's not like it at all.
Only the "preppies" dressed like that. Regular kids wore jeans. Nobody liked the preps then and nobody likes them now. I was there...graduated high school in 1986.

I can just imagine this playing out today; John pulls up in front of the school, the kids say that it's the wrong one, Buck pulls out and his car backfires several times, sounding like gunshots and everyone starts running and screaming for their lives while Buck drives away, none the wiser. He pulls up at a stop light and witnesses several police cars, two SWAT vans, an ambulance and a police helicopter rounding the corner towards the school. He looks at the kids and remarks with a grimace, "Oof, sure glad that's not your school!"
