- To kick of our 11th orbit around the podcast sun, Neil deGrasse Tyson sits down for a one-on-one interview with author and entrepreneur @timferriss. Tim is a well-known author with his works including The 4-Hour Workweek, The 4-Hour Body, and The 4-Hour Chef as well as being an early-stage technology investor in top companies like Facebook, Uber, Duolingo, Alibaba, and more. Tim also has his own podcast aptly titled The Tim Ferriss Show.
To start, we investigate Tim’s geek upbringings. You’ll hear about his fascination with sharks that led to his love for marine biology. We discuss his connection to Jaws. You’ll learn about Tim’s love for science fiction. We dive into the books Dune and Stranger in a Strange Land and explore how science fiction helps us think in different ways.
Find out about Tim’s interest in neuroscience and how his family tree led him to explore more. Neil and Tim ponder the societal impact of psychedelics and why they might have been much more helpful if they weren’t made a Schedule 1 drug under the Nixon administration. Discover more about the writing process as Neil and Tim break down the creation of Tim’s books The 4-Hour Workweek and the 4-Hour Body. Tim tells us how he dealt with getting rejected by over 25 publishers. We also discuss the advantages of testing ideas and how Tim tested ideas for the titles of his books.
You’ll hear about life hacking. Tim shares with us the value of meta learning. Lastly, get a glimpse of Tim’s inspirations as he shares who inspired him growing up, and in college, and who continues to inspire him today. All that, plus, we discuss Tim’s most recent book Tribe of Mentors which offers “short life advice from the best in the world.”

Neil didn't interrupt? What the world has come to? :P
Strange how admiration always turns to envy. Judgment get in the way of understanding.
Those interruptions can really get annoying sometimes.
But then, I realized that he is just trying to make sure that EVERYONE who is listening, has understood the point being discussed.
Also, occasionally he is just trying to crack a joke and few of those attempts don't go through
In any case, he is my personal astrophysicist and I never miss an opportunity for listening to something and anything from Neil.
I understand the comic aspect of StarTalk, but boy it is nice just to hear Neil and the quest without any insert jokes.
My bet is that a lot of people find the comedy to be what keeps it more down to earth casual, digestible and entertaining. But I often find it quite disruptive to the flow of Niels explanations, especially when he is presenting something in one of his uniquely interesting perspectives.
agree
Should have this podcast 4 hours a week.
2:40 Long Islander who was bullied for being the smallest in the class. As a Long Islander myself I can say that this checks out.
Neil, this has to be a singular, best episode you have done!! I could not peel my eyes (and ears) away. Thanks from Pasadena CA.
Wonderful interview! I’m saving this and will watch again so I can take notes, for myself. Also, this I have to share with my daughter. I think she will enjoy it as much as I do. Thank you, both!
Fascinating interview. I became an avid reader by the time I was 8, and got to read both "Stranger in a Strange Land", and "Dune" in my teens in the first editions, borrowed from the library. I still read a lot (currently "First Man" and a biography of Emperor Augustus) and mostly books from my local library. Libraries are a vital resource. Mine has a display of the latest books, both fiction and non-fiction. Since I retired I can get to the library in the mornings, and have worked out when they put out the new books. Recently I got hold of "She Said" the day the library got a copy!
I agree with his comments about what the Nixon administration did to stop research into the therapeutic uses of psychedelics. The just ignored the fact that there were no uses at the time because there had not been enough research!
I really enjoyed it, thank you!
No idea who this Tim chap is, but he seems a reasonable fellow. Hope he gets on well in life.
I did not know him either.
Had to google before listening to this interesting discussion.
Just google around for him. He's probably one of the most prolific teachers in the world. It will change your life!
I have come across the main part about the "best thing ever" has a connection to the journey to either discover or sought out for an item. Where I live you have to travel pretty much anywhere for anything big city products.
immediately clicked video only to find out it was not Bill Burr in thumbnail..lol
I think Tim Tim Talk Talk idea was actually recorded during a Random Show podcast With Kevin 🌹.
This is the first time that I have found Mr. Tyson so eager to listen, and not expound : )
I was really drawn in right from the get go. An easy watch just because of how interesting it is. I loved it when Mr Ferriss said his parents always had the budget for books over everything else.
For a second I thought it was Bill Burr. So shiny!
Same. I’m like, why would he have bill burr on his show?!
Is it just me or was the audio not overlapped correctly in the middle?
Fascinating conversation among two people I follow.
This is the better format. I haven't been able to watch many of the StarTalk episodes due to the diluted format. I feel I'd like access to both. If I like a talk enough to listen to it again I might be interested in the diluted format.
the audio got delay or something?
Hh Hh I think so
Love the episode, I hope you can make 1 with Dr Michael Gervais.
Is it normal that Tim Ferriss sound on normal speed at 1.5 speed?
Simeon Ivanov no
NDT,I love you, however after a mother gives birth their job is just beginning 😊. I've never known a woman who got a 3 year recouping time off after giving birth! But I get what you're trying to say😁💙and you are one of my heroes.
Are the A/V out of sync like 15 mins in? could be me.
It´s not you, it´s me!
"I tell you Neil, on that day I WAS a marine biologist"
hole in one
Woooaaahhh big fellah 😂😂😂
The sea was angry that day my friends. Like an old man trying to send back soup at a deli.
I WAS FACE TO FACE WITH THE BLOWHOLE
"To kick of our 11th orbit around the podcast sun"? Proof!
Nice job Neil
Should’ve called his duow the “Tim Ferriss Wheel”
Me: very interested in space, relativity, physics. Let's listen to startalk for the 1st time.
Startalk: talks about sharks
SSpankin Stangs Watch a different episode then, it’s not that hard
@@crimson5719 mindblowing advice, thanks for that donkey
SSpankin Stangs Good insult buddy!!!
Life dream is to meet Neil
there it goes!---"Stranger in a Strange Land"---Ferris mentions---oh yes!
Reading, writing and learning and teaching.
What happened to the premieres? I enjoyed the live chats
Neil can you visit India for a program one day? Lot's of followers right here.
Yes sir I would pay to see him
I clicked because my last name is Ferris. He may have an extra s, but a Ferris nonetheless. Haha Keep rockin' dudes.
Can you get elon musk on?
I'm almost certain that StarTalk would be able to schedule an interview with Neil. Elon, one might think, wouldn't pass-up an opportunity to spread his (Dogmatic & Socioeconomic) views on Business, Economics, Ecology, *Insert any science that incipient's who are in the business of making money et al et, ad infinitum*!
I've had the same thought about getting Mark Zuckerberg (founder, President & CEO of Facebook).
The only "Curveball" I can think of that would be essentially out of the "Ordinary", may be the the "Avoidance" discussing some topics that could be presentable as inappropriate for that specific guest to converse about previous personal mistakes.
NLB90805 well said
Science!!
The shark hunter in Jaws is Quint. Not Clint.
Okay, did Neil say that Arrival was one of the films that violated Science principles the most?
I didnt hear that being said in the video.
@@FoodStamp1973 It wasn't but he said a lot of times, even in Twitter. I was just pointing out that he didn't react when Tim Ferris discussed it
In the shadows of the American century - Alfred W. McCoy. A lot of people could learn a lot from this book. "Never lost a war"
I love Neil so much he is my hero
HE RAPED A CHILD...Soooooooo😐😐😐
@@Jason_Family_Man Got proof of that? Because you could very well be subjected to legal actions for posting such statement. In this day and age you will be very....very easy to find and made to respond for such a post. If I were you I would consider shutting up and, unless you had any proof of course. So....your proof is???
Nearly all deuterium found in nature was produced in the Big Bang 13.8 billion years ago, as the basic or primordial ratio of hydrogen-1 to deuterium (about 26 atoms of deuterium per million hydrogen atoms) has its origin from that time. Where does the rest come from?
Please, i need subs in english. This interview so awesome, but my english not good enough for only listen... :( Someone help one brazilian guy :) im understanding 50%
You can turn on auto comments

13:22
The deadliest v combo interview I whave ever seen .
How do I apply to work for Neil deGrasse Tyson? I would work for free and even sleep on the streets. I have never wanted anything more than to meet NDT.
I've never click on a YT video so fast when I see the thumbnail...
44:44
Oh Wow 🤣 Tim just made a women come up as he said

Demon Uchiha I thought it was Johnny Sins
Flower shaft?
Finally!! I’m early!!
YOU LATE ... THE EARTHERS FLAT AND STATIONARY
lol, "knightmare6"? that kinda made the still image just creepy. is that some inside joke?
If you are a billionaire, the video's editor cuts out all of Neil's pointless interruptions in the conversation.
“Unfounded circular reasoning.”
“Wow! Let’s hope no one questions space exploration claims or we’re done for!”
“This interview is in front of a green screen. No worries.”
“Haters gonna hate.”
Finally, Bill Burr and NDT together!! Oh wait
This guy parties
Not gonna be a while before this guy makes an appearance on the joe rogan show
Hello
Keep up the act Neil.
🤔👌
I got your back Tim..... :)
Neil DeGrasse Tyson
Neil is a wonderful person and accomplishe scientist---i love his style---yet, in interviewing a genius, ya need to give them a lot of space and time---Neil's funny and cool interruptions is what i often do, and in this case is 50% too much. Either that, or go on for another hour---aside from distracting a smart person train of thought. Ferriss handled it well, but.....
Neil on Shrooms.... Hmmm , Will he be chill or super hyper nova ?
Oh, the academic pursuit "forget gene" is real. I've spent my entire life in school so far. Most of that time, I've whined about it incessantly, LOL.
So entrepreneurs are here to save the world? Well, if they bring forward the enthusiasm, brilliance of thought then sure why not. However, have that tempered with the rules and regulations set out by society or the official body we vote for to manage these aspects of society
I would watch a porn documentary if Neil deGrasse Tyson was the narrator.
So fun to save well above average intelligent people talkin and we're just trying to figure it out 🤨
Depression is not genetic though.. 🤔 or is it ?
i would love to chat with a angel investor...
🤖Even the smartest can't see what it would be like if everybody was smart. A. I. Couldn't see the future.🤖
It's 'Nice' to have a podcast without Chuck attempting to be funny the whole time. Time a place for his kind of comedy
This reminds me of a joe rogan pod cast.
Neil deGrasse Tyson looks huge compared to this man lol.
Tim's net worth is much larger.
fire the producer! A/V sync is really bad
The government doesn't want you to think freely, why would they legalize anything that opens your mind?
👽This country needs another Obama.👽
John Farris I don’t think so, we have over 100 Obamas in the US
sorry Neil, 20-40% of what Ferriss could have imparted, was lfeft on the table---very frustrating---Tim had ideas on how to learn, i could teach you how to inerview, by interviewing you and interrupting you---the YOU who the audience wanted to hear from---the Neil who left much on the table, because i interrupted to often.
Full stop. Dude doesn't know the name of the character from Jaws. I'm out.
I don’t know who this Ferriss fellow is, but he looks like he has an IRON constitution. I just wrote this comment for the pun. now I got to go, I don’t have time to watch.
conman
This has to be the least interesting StarTalk podcast. I mean even Neil almost slept there, trying with some questions to make the guy actually say something...
BOOKS (sorry for politics---trump is not and never was a reader--stuntedbrainbecause of that).
