This was my Dad’s favourite song ❤️. Thanks.
This was produced by the legendary producers Americans Lieber and Stoller
She's from Salford England my home town. ❤
Lilac wine by her is well worth checking out!
I saw her in Concert last week in London she was AMAZING two standing ovations.. Listen to her singing , “ Baby What You Want me To Do “
Nice smoky voice & like the country feel. Nice piano 🎹 .
Elkie Brooks AKA British Queen of Blues . The only female singer in the UK who has more Albums in the UK album charts than anyone else . She was also known as the Wild Woman of Rock n Roll.
If you want more funky rock, blues and soul, Elkie Brooks and Robert Palmer with Vinegar Joe might fit the bill. I never thought of this a country song, just because Elkie Brooks was not a country singer, and since country music barely existed as a gene in the UK commercial music scene, I didn't spot the signs. This was a hit out of nowhere and gave Elkie Brooks a second shot at a career when a "Pearl" is exactly what she might have become. Pearl was also Janis Joplin's nickname, and the title of her final album.
I secretly love this song .. and I know Sir Col and Starburst_Candy will love it too
She’s got a cracking voice and back in the day she was a right fox 🦊
😃
👍🏴
Wasn't she just❤🇬🇧🏴🏴☠️
To use an Australian quote, "Nah, yeah, nah!" Way too country for me!
Great singers can sing any Genre of Music . Elkie Brooks is one of those singers .
😂😂😂please , don’t sit on the fence - just say that you don’t like country!
Seems that Vinegar Joe is getting some shouts!
Pearl might have been a singer, but my wee pal Michael was a winger, and one of the best, over 400 appearances for the Edinburgh hibees , go Mickey Weir, you're a weirdo!, you're weirdo !,, as for elkie , whow now your talking,my favourite is " don't cry out loud" 🏴✌️
Try 'Lilac Wine' by Elkie.. (i sent a you tube link in Patreon to you a while back) It's a strange song but worth it. She sings all kinds of genre, not just country!
She was in a band before going solo.. She was in Vinegar Joe.
With the late, great Robert Palmer. Vinegar Joe had some bangers - 'Proud To Be (A Honky Woman)' is a stand-out track.
This was a very popular song in the U.K. when it was released back in the '70s, but I hated it, for the same reason that Cynthia did, luckily this isn't representative of her stuff, "Lilac Wine" is a pleasant song, and she did a good cover of "Fool (if You Think It's Over) by Chris Rea, perhaps one you could do for a future Wednesday?
Elkie’s biggest hit was “ No More the Fool “ in 1987. A great song and a stunning vocal . IMO Elkie Version of Lilac Wine is fantastic , especially when she sings it live . I saw her last week in London she was amazing she got two standing ovations from a sold out Cadagon Hall
