"Keir Starmer has a women problem": Labour MP on why she quit party | LBC

- Lewis Goodall speaks to Rosie Duffield, who resigned the Labour whip on Saturday over 'party sleaze becoming too much'.
On resigning, she says, ‘I tried my best to stay, I didn’t want to leave. I just can’t believe this is the Labour government. I’ve been trying to fight from the inside for 7 years, I’m done.'
She questioned why Keir Starmer is taking £32,000 in free clothes. 'It smacks of greed. We are meant to be the party of service.'
She claims the Prime Minister is 'not interested in backbenchers', adding 'he is only interested in power, it's his number one goal and now he’s achieved it.'
On Labour having a woman problem, Rosie Duffield said 'the decisions are made by the same bunch of young men. We all call them the lads. They've been the ones who have briefed against me and other women.'
She refused to quit as an MP because 'I haven’t changed my party or my principles. I’ve just stopped paying into the Labour party'

Irrelevant of your politics I do very much admire a person of principle. Labour seem to have forgotten their socialist principles
You think this woman is principled- so why did she ignore lockdown?!
Principles are meaningless until they are tested.
If this was the final straw, then she has ignored her principles until now.
@@AKHill-gj2uy And many others are continuing to ignore them. It's always hardest to be the first to rebel
@@Lizzy1ES Didn't everyone,including Starmer?
She's been bullied and sent to Coventry by many of her Labour colleagues because of her views on the trans ideology and it's probably the only thing I agree with her on.
I wish her and the left would stop the hand wringing regarding Boris, but that's politics!
She should be grateful the right were the main people supporting her,I accept.
Starmer is a very weird man,and completely ignored her.
By not appeasing a reactionary like Duffield?
Kudos, Rosie Duffield. What a resignation letter.
And kudos for her covid rule breaking and not accepting her having to resign her then shadow front bench position because of that having a pop at the person who insisted she did? You havent got the full picture am guessing?
Not a hint of hypocrisy at all over gifts. /s
She sounds like a decent person I could have a pint with.

I think getting £100,000 of gifts when you earn £130,000 as Prime Minister. Is Starmer too tight to buy his own sunglasses and clothes for his wife
Were they for his wife.......?
He's a multi millionaire.

Rosie Duffield speaking a lot of sense here. It's refreshing.
It’s too late mate she’s a bad as the rest
She’s being paid as a labour mp
She would not have won the election without the labour ticket

The greed of Starmer is frankly disgusting, he is himself a multi millionaire with a huge pension to come from CPS. A 2 MILLION POUND HOUSE WITH NO MORTGAGE!! GREED GREED GREED AND AN UNDOUBTED SCANDAL TO COME!
And let’s not forget that when he resigns, which he will, he will receive over £115,000 every year just for being PM, just like Truss.

The house was a gesture of a friend for a break from the press for his kids. It was a temporary stay out of the way.
Gcse exams ran between May 9th and June 19th. That flat was not for his son.
Additionally, starmers son is no more important than any other kid doing their gcses. If starmer as a parent thought his son needed an additional space, he should have provided and paid for it himself.
Totally agree. As people have also said, reporters wouldn't be making any noise, and wouldn't be there at night. The excuse given makes little sense, couple that with the dates being wrong, and you've got a story with more holes than swiss cheese.

@@AKHill-gj2uythe coward abstained
LBC too bias. Rosie Duffield is a brave young lady I salute this lady.
Yes that brave she abstained on the pensioners winter fuel allowance bill? Broke lock down rules to spend the night with a married man. She'd stand in a by election if she had any morals or cared about her constituents. Career politician
WHY the F is Lewis looking so puzzled. THis is a no brainer, even he should be able to understand!
I don't remember agreeing with Duffield before but she is so, so right on this stuff.
Omg . We are just peasant. To all the governments . But I believe in her
Then you are easily fooled.
I admire Rosie Duffield for her stance. She has shown principle over career. Kudos.
Why?
She had grievances with his leadership before the election
Why did she not stand as an independent candidate at the election if she was that principled
Principle over donations? Given how she's accepted some I'd call it hypocrisy.
I think there is other grievances she doesn't want to talk about publicly.
She’s an opportunist and is profiting from her side hustles. Where’s the outrage at gb news being stacked with tories and reform who profit massively for tiny amounts of work. Not a whimper. Starmer gets a few gifts from a donor… ok where’s the issue? He doesn’t appear to have broken a single rule. This whole thing is just the right wing being salty they lost the election. Surely one of the greatest resignation letters of all time. Utterly brilliant. Sir Sausage has replied:
'Who dear, free gear, two-tier, no dear'
No sausage without fire..
I think this is about more than freebies, maybe she thinks running as an independant for another four years will get her electorate to accept her in the future. Lot's here to discuss, he took lot's of freebies but I only had a few! but does the quantity make it more or less acceptable? Whether or not she is right she is clearly trying to damage Starmer. Clearly the press has had a field day with all of this.
At last a politician who has principles Rosie should be proud of herself, putting her principles above the party, and obviously she's had the same problem Dennis Skinner had , they were not only fighting the opposition but those within the party too, who will put the party first and the people last,
How is she principled about this when she herself accepts freebies?
Doesn't Starmer's friendship with Lord Alli and all the gifts he has received explain why he has chosen the (highly likely) deaths of pensioners this Winter over taxing the Super-Rich? Don't bite the hand that clothes you, right?
Blessings to Rosie 🎉

Lewis Goodall, fabulous interviewer.
10:40 Lewis, i don’t agree it’s one way or the other. I think some gifted occasions for MPs to promote their local area or local events and interests are ok. If they are invited by the host, ok.
It’s the £4 million from the caymans hedge fund, the pass to host events in Downing Street. And the hypocrisy. It’s the hypocrisy of Keir Starmer posturing as hollier than thou, and then look at that, he’s as bad as the rest.
It’s one rule for them and another for every one else.
And YES Labour does have a ‘woman problem’ hence why Keir is “in power” (it’s government btw)
Totally agree and Labour has never had a female PM either unlike the Tories who had had 3.
Yes,and what a three, hardly an advert for more@@Silver-st2zq

Labour not having a woman leader is irrelevant and foolish identity politics, especially as the leadership contests have never excluded anyone.
@@fabiennemitchell2371 Why is it that Labour has never had a female PM then?
It’s very easy to call the concerns of 51% of the population ‘irrelevant and foolish’ when his concern are relevant and considered. Making assumptions based on what suits himself is much easier than listening and understanding other people.
This man really struggles with the concept of principle.
What is the principle behind using the Labour party's name, its resources and machinery to get elected and then ditching the party. A principles MP would step down as an MP.
@@theolddog5129 as opposed to a once hardline Marxist using his position in the Labour Party for freebies?

I always voted Labour and was previously a member. Since Starmer became leader I can’t in all conscience vote for Labour again. I first voted in 1972 and have never voted for any other party. I didn’t vote for them this last time. Starmer, Raynor, et al disgust me
Same. I'll resume my membership once he and his front bench are gone.
Jumped before pushed, now do the honourable thing and resign your seat.
I agree, a by-election is needed, and she'll win again, with an increased majority.
But 2TK still wouldn't understand. Despite being devoid of any particular talent or skill that I can recognise, he's been spoon fed success all his life. Now he's being scrutinised, and it's not going well for him.
goodall is an utter disgrace
WHY NOW ? Because she has a minimum of another 4 years highly paid employment. If you look at her register of interests you will find that she has always accepted freebies herself. £4,000 of tickets to the VIP enclosure at the golf open last year.
STARMER OUT
Now she has her feet under the table she can continue to miss votes while she takes on lucrative side jobs
She has missed the chance to rise through the ranks. She is losing more than she is gaining.
It was £350 for the Open, when it was held in her own constituency. Your whataboutery is misplaced.
I don't understand why she didn't vote against ending the winter fuel payment rather than just abstaining when she felt so strongly about it. Does anyone know?
Vaughan Gethin did the decent thing in Cymru, he resigned, Starmer should do the same.
Rosie Duffield has principals and ethics, which is rare indeed in the modern political world we reside in. I admire her honesty and revealing these horrid truths for the general public to review. 5 years of this lot is an awful long time.
Independent and the growing strength of mps dissolutionment of the present government is a breath of fresh air and a light at the end of a very dark tunnel of a far right determination to remove Socialism The mps walking away from stamers government is walking toward freedom for the voting public of Britain 👍🙏🏻🥰‼️
Well done that woman
The cynic might suggest Duffield decided to get elected as a Labour MP securing her own career before deciding to find her voice.
I'm a cynic and I would suggest that very thing.
It is the party that has changed not Duffield.
.... then the cynic will be reminded that Labour did NOT reveal it would take away the winter fuel allowance, and more, in its manifesto. It was only after winning the election that Starmer revealed his hand.
If only Duffield wasn't a vile bigot... Then I might actually be interested in what she had to say. Shame.

I’m sure any Labour voter in Kent will understand Starmer not anything like a Socialist leader. He’s a light blue Tory. With his own interests of Power & entitlement coming first.
Starmer never invented a Labour Party the far left didn’t like. Cobyn has hated the party since the 1970’s. He wouldn’t leave. In the end they had to chuck him out.,

@@paulgillen1978 None of this is fraud? Didn't they say they changed the reason for the 'donation' or some such wording? What would be the need to do that if it was on the up-and-up?
It’s. Not. Fraud. In fact it’s not against any rules, has been going on forever and this performative pearl clutching by the plebs is stunningly hypocritical given what the tories charged the public purse.
