Bee-Yond Honeybees: Meet Your Native Bees

This fully illustrated presentation will introduce you to a few of the more than 500 species of bees that are native to Georgia and which can be found in backyards across metro Atlanta region. Find out how native bees like bumble bees, mason bees, leafcutter bees, sweat bees and carpenter bees are similar to -- and different from -- their better known honey bee cousins. Peter Helfrich, vice president of the Metro Atlanta Beekeepers Association, and currently chair of Decatur’s Bee City USA committee, will present. Because so many of our membership has or have had honeybees, he will discuss the current state of honeybees as part of his presentation.
